Primordial Awakening: My Bloodline Evolves Infinitely
Chapter 126: Boundless FrenzyGeneral Godfrey glanced at the two Sergeants struggling by his side.
They had run out of luck. Elizabeth was able to negate the difference in power by relying on her scythe, while Miranda went toe-to-toe with the other Sergeant, even without using any of her mana.
"Where the heck is Walter?!" Godfrey muttered in irritation, sending Albert back several meters.
He glanced to the frontline, expecting to see his subordinate racing to rejoin the fight. Yet, to his bafflement, Walter knelt upon the battlefield, his body grown limp just a few seconds ago.
In his place, Leonard sprinted forward at full force, his eyes narrowed like a wild predator on a hunt.
"He lost?"
A deep frown etched on Godfrey’s face.
Leonard had not only dealt with one of the Sergeants, but had also broken the formation of the army from the rear.
To complicate matters even more, while the strongest fighters on both sides had been fighting, Princess Arabella rallied the elves that followed her and had masterfully reduced Sandromia’s numbers even further.
From a hundred men, their numbers had dropped below seventy and counting, while the scholars had yet to sustain any meaningful losses.
Because Eternia was on the defensive, their troops could rain hell on their adversaries and retreat behind the fortress walls to recover whenever they were dealt a dangerous injury.
Originally, Godfrey’s plan had been to overwhelm the Ironstone Fortress, invade inside the outpost walls, and pick off the scholars one by one in their fit of panic.
He hadn’t expected to encounter such cooperation between the scholars. Perhaps they weren’t as green as he had hoped when he initiated the siege.
"We can’t afford to retreat." Godfrey tightened his hold over his sickles.
As an esteemed military General and one of Sandromia’s King’s main advisors, he had a reputation to uphold.
Honestly, he hadn’t taken the brightest soldiers under his command today, since conquering the fortress was supposed to be a quick and easy job, so losing them wouldn’t stain his image that much.
However, he still had deployed a valuable monster in order to crush the soldiers within the outpost’s walls. If he were to run away with his tail tucked between his legs, it would go against his own principles as a General.
"If I can’t rely on others to take over the fortress, then I will conquer it single-handedly!" Godfrey declared.
His blue eyes settled on Albert. He braced his core and charged forward, ready to ram into his foe.
Sadly, Albert didn’t expect the scheming General to suddenly charge forward with no sense of self-preservation. He barely had time to raise his guard before the two collided.
Like a bull, Godfrey struck, sweeping Albert along with his momentum as they crashed into the entrance gates behind them.
Boom!
Unable to withstand the sheer force, the gates shattered on impact, opening a gaping hole in the fortress walls.
"I am in!" Godfrey laughed out loud.
Albert whimpered, putting a hand over his chest. The impact had rattled his internal organs, and without a doubt, he had fractured ribs.
"And you have signed your death warrant."
Despite his worsening condition, he put on a confident front, attempting to shake the demeanor of his foe.
Inside the fortress, Godfrey was truly alone, after all.
"We will see about that." Godfrey replied, meeting his stare with a wide grin.
Suddenly, the hair on the back of his neck stood on end.
Turning around, Godfrey noticed Leonard, who had already lunged forward, striving to claim his life.
"So this is the man who claimed Walter’s life. Let’s see what you are capable of!" Godfrey bellowed.
A heartbeat later he stopped the strike of Titanic Oath with one sickle.
Simultaneously, Valor slashed downward.
Godfrey yawned mockingly, stopping the greatsword with his other sickle.
The General remained unshaken. One hand was more than enough to deal with them both!
"Weak!" He mocked, kicking Leonard in the stomach and sending him skidding across the cold ground like a ragdoll.
"You are a decade too early if you wish to challenge me!"
Leonard’s eyes darkened, his breathing turning even heavier.
This was the man who had teamed up with a monster against his fellow humans. Whatever the cost, he had to pay!
For a brief moment, Godfrey paused, meeting Leonard’s stare. Regardless of the injuries he had sustained, these weren’t the eyes of prey but of a cornered beast.
The instincts Godfrey had honed over his years in the military warned him that underestimating the young lad would prove to be a great mistake.
"I like those eyes... I wonder how you will look once I am done with you?"
While Godfrey was distracted, Albert took the opportunity to attack from the rear, aiming for his head.
Sensing the hurried projectile in time, Godfrey smiled and sidestepped. Howling wind echoed next to his ear as he effortlessly evaded the spell.
He was aware that each second he lingered reduced his chance of victory.
Godfrey’s eyes quickly darted across the interior of the fortress, a cunning scheme forming in his mind.
The next moment, his gaze locked onto a recently raised tent that had been hastily put together.
Inside, the scholars who had been wounded during the battle with the enemies outside were currently receiving treatment from the Healers.
"Ah, my precious... I found you."
He licked his lips, expression turning repulsive. Then he raised his two sickles to his sides and fractured the ground beneath his feet in a staggeringly fast dash.
General Godfrey wasn’t a fool by any means. He knew that killing Albert and Leonard would take too much of his strength.
So he sought to first take care of the smaller threats that could hinder his slaughter.
More specifically, his first targets were the Healers. They were the main reason Eternia hadn’t suffered heavy losses since the start of the fight.
Things were about to change dramatically!
Faster than a blink, Godfrey arrived at the medical tent, his imposing presence startling everyone inside.
"Greetings, honey! It’s a shame such beautiful flowers like yourself are about to be reaped!"
Without hesitation, he lashed out with his sickles.
His targets were the most effective healers of the bunch: Cassie and Samantha.
The two shuddered, watching the incoming slashes that held enough power to end their lives.
Their Healer class didn’t possess any skills that could get them out of this predicament. Furthermore, they were surrounded by injured scholars, not a single one able to offer help.
This was it.
They were about to die.
Until the last moment, two figures arrived to their rescue.
Winston and William had noticed that the gates of the fortress had been breached and rushed inside, fearing the worst.
Fortunately, they managed to arrive in time, practically throwing their bodies in front of the two healers to save the girls.
But alas, Godfrey was a General... While they were just scholars.
Winston’s shield was split in two. The sickle carved past his armor and cut his left collarbone in two, blood gushing out like a fountain. His face grew paler than a sheet.
William, having raised his gauntlet in protection, fared even worse. A thin line spread from the top of his head all the way down to his waist. The next instant, his gauntlet broke into fragments, and his legs grew weak. The blood that poured out pained the scene crimson.
The two toppled to the ground, bringing the surroundings to a silent crawl.
Having struggled to his feet, Leonard felt his eyes watering down. Heart burning with boundless frenzy.
"NOOOOO!"
