"That all really depends on where you live and which lord oversees that area." She said.
"That makes sense". I replied.
As we walked around I had also noticed about one in ten people were wearing the same iron collar around their neck, after Sarah mentioned slaves it made sense now.
"So those collars they are wearing, they are slaves?" I asked Sarah.
She looked at where I was looking.
"Yes, they are slaves. Most wear those iron collars but sometimes slave owners give their more valuable slaves better collars to show off the value of their property." She explained.
"Where would you go to buy slaves?" I asked.
"Every city have a slave market, we would have to ask around to find the one in this city." She said.
We asked a passerby where the local slave market was and we went the direction we were given. After walking for about twenty minutes we arrived at the slave district, there were several establishments. They were large buildings with signs describing the slaves they had available. Some buildings were more elegant while some looked like they would collapse at any moment. We chose the nicest looking establishment and entered it. A man wearing a tailored suit immediately greeted us.
"Hello sir, miss. How may I help you today?" He asked.
"We are interested in buying a slave, a healer. Do you have any available?" I asked.
"Of course sir, but healers are on the higher end. I would need to ask for proof of funds before I can show you the product." He said.
"How much?" I sighed.
"Our lowest priced healer is a level one healer, she is currently priced at four gold. So I would need to see that you have at least that much." He said.
I summoned ten gold from my ring into my hand and showed it to him.
"Very well sir, please follow me." He said after seeing the coins.
We followed him down a corridor into a private room with a table that had a sofa on one side and a chair on the other.
"Please have a seat on the sofa." He said gesturing to the sofa.
Sarah and I sat in the sofa as he then walked to a cabinet and pulled out a book before sitting in the chair. He placed the book on the table between us and opened it up.
"This book contains pictures and descriptions of all our healer slaves. Since you showed me ten gold coins I will show you all the healers costing ten gold or less, starting with the least expensive."
He turned to a page showing the picture of a level one human healer.
"This one is a recent debt slave. Her mother fell ill several years ago and managed to collect quite a large debt from the local healers for her treatment. Unfortunately since this young lady just turned eighteen and is only level one her abilities aren’t enough to repay her mother’s debt, so she was forced into debt slavery. Her four gold purchase price is the remainder of her mother’s debt. I looked at her picture, it was an artist rendering but it still looked pretty realistic. I looked at Sarah for a second and turned back to the man.
"Is it possible to see her in person before purchase?" I asked.
"Of course sir, if you like I could bring her to you right now. It will only take a few minutes to retrieve her." He said.
"Please do that." I said.
He closed the book and put it back in the cabinet and left the room. After nearly ten minutes he returned with the healer. I stood up as they entered the room. She was pretty close to Sarah’s height. She has long wavy copper red hair that reached halfway down her back. Her eyes were green like jade. She had skin even paler than Sarah’s. She was wearing a white gown that went all the way to her ankles and her feet were bare. You could tell she wore nothing else beneath it because as she walked her breast swayed unrestrained and you could clearly see her nipples pushing against the fabric. She wore the same iron collar as the slaves I saw walking around the city.
"This is Lucy, the healer you wanted to inspect." The man said.
"Can we speak to her in private?" Sarah asked.
"Of course miss." The man said as he left the room and closed the door behind him.
"Hello Lucy. My name is Eric, and this is my fiancee. Can you tell us about yourself?" I asked.
She looked up at us for several seconds before speaking in a quiet timid voice.
"My name is Lucy. I turned eighteen three days ago. My mother became ill several years ago and the healers cured her. I worked to help my mother repay the debt, I even prayed to the goddess to become a healer so I can earn more coin. I was granted the healer class on my eighteenth birthday but the debt collectors wouldn’t wait for me to find work, they took me on that day to sell and recover their money. I’ve been here since." She explained before looking back down at her feet.
"My fiancee and I spend a lot of time in the forest fighting monsters, do you think you could handle being our healer?" I asked.
She looked up at us with wide eyes.
"The forest? I’m only level one, I’ve never even had the chance to heal anyone yet. I will try my best but if either of you receive a fatal injury I wouldn’t be able to heal you fast enough to save you." She said.
"That’s fine, we mostly need a healer that can heal minor cuts and scratches from goblin claws and teeth." I said.
"I believe I could handle something like that." She said.
"Great, then I believe we have found our healer." I said.
