"So what were you doing while I was at the dress shop?" Sarah asked.
"Just making some arrangements for the wedding." I said
I took the map and layed it out on the bed and stood there looking at it. Sarah wrapped her arms around my left arm and put her head on my shoulder as she looked down at the map.
"What are you looking for?" Sarah asked.
"I’m looking for the safest place to start my clan. Once we are married and you start having my children we will need a place far from other races that would try to wipe us out." I said.
"Well, we could buy some slaves to act as guards to help protect our children." Sarah said.
"Slaves? That might be a good idea. But we will need plenty of supplies to build our home as well." I said.
"You got all your coin from orc caves, maybe since I’m a swordswoman now I can register with the adventurer guild and use them to help us find more orcs caves, and they will even pay me for it." Sarah said.
"That’s a great idea." I said.
After looking at the map I decided the forest we have been traveling in was the safest place to hide, according to the map the forest was several thousand miles wide.
"We could start our clan right here in the middle of the forest." I said pointing at a spot on the map.
"We will need to buy a lot of dwarf slaves to do the building, they are expensive. Since there isn’t a dwarf kingdom on this continent dwarf slaves need to be imported from other continents, I’ve never heard of a dwarf slave costing less than ten gold." Sarah said.
"That is quite expensive. What about agriculture, we will need people to farm the land to feed the clan." I said.
"Human farmer slaves are pretty cheap. Lords like to sell their serfs to pay their taxes so they don’t have to use their own coin." Sarah said.
"That is terrible." I said.
"Yes it is, but it’s pretty common." She said.
"What about healers? We will need healers in case someone gets injured or falls ill." I asked.
"Healers are expensive too, sometimes as expensive as drawf slaves depending on their level." She answered.
"What do you recommend for the guards?" I asked.
"At least a couple of beast-kin, they have better senses. They can hear or smell intruders long before humans can. Lion-kin are the biggest, they can be over seven feet tall and are pretty strong. I don’t really know how much beast-kin slaves would cost but I don’t think they would be as expensive as dwarves." She said.
"Okay. So you will register as an adventurer so we can get leads on orc cave locations. We will save at least a thousand gold coins to use for buying slaves and supplies. Then we will go deep into the forest and establish our clan." I said looking down at Sarah. Sarah looked up at me without taking her head off my shoulder and smiled.
"Sounds like a mighty grand plan." She said.
"Alright, let’s get some rest now." I said folding up the map and storing it in my ring.
We climbed into the bed with Sarah curled up on my left side. She put her head on my shoulder with her face in crook of my neck. I wrapped my left arm around her and pulled her close.
"Goodnight." She said.
"Goodnight." I repeated.
We woke up the next morning to the hotel staff knocking on the door with breakfast. I hid while Sarah retrieved the cart. After we ate I put my armor back on and Sarah got dressed. We left the cart outside the room and started exploring the city again. We found a clothing store and went inside. I bought several pairs of pants and shirts as well as a pair of boots. Sarah bought several dresses, a couple pairs of pants and shirts, some shoes and a pair of boots. In total everything cost two silver twelve. Then we left the shop and continued exploring. The streets were lined with shops on both sides of the street and many of the shops had apartments above them. Horses pulled carts, wagons, buggies, and carriages up and down the streets. There were light posts spread out on both sides of the streets that used magical artifacts to glow at night so people could see where they were going. Not only were there humans but elves and various beast-kin races as well. It was like a medievil city back on earth but more advanced and with magic and other races.
"Do the different kingdoms ever war against each other?" I asked Sarah as we walked.
"There is the occasional skirmish or minor war between them but there hasn’t been an actual major conflict in over a hundred years.". She answered.
"What is a minor war? Isn’t any war a major conflict" I asked.
"A minor war typically only results in a handful of battles and usually ends within a few months. The last major conflict was a five year war between the humans and the Feline Alliance. The lion-kin wanted to extend the Feline territory into an area controlled by humans, so they invaded and destroyed several villages before human forces could arrive and confront them. The tiger-kin and cat-kin joined because of their alliance so the human forces suffered heavy losses in that battle. But eventually the Feline Alliance was driven back and forced to surrender the war and pay reparations to the lords whose lands were affected by the war." She explained.
"Ah, I understand the difference now. So what about life in the human kingdom, what is that like? Are the common people treated well or are they ruled with a heavy hand?" I asked.
"That all really depends on where you live and which lord oversees that area." She said.
