Primordial Red Goblin

Chapter 72: Lilly’s First Day

"I was thinking more along the lines of you coming to look at the yard and I give you some coin and let you do your thing." I said.

"I can do that. Let me grab some paper and tools to make some measurements and I’ll follow you over there." He said.

He ran to get what he needed and once he returned we went back to the orphanage. He looked around the yard.

"Lilly, have the work crews build a wooden privacy fence all around the backyard." I said.

"Okay Eric." She replied.

She called one of the workers over to us and gave him the order. He ran off to tell the others. The man finished measuring the backyard and walked over to us.

"So what can you do?" I asked.

"Well that all depends on your budget. For a few silver I can install a swing set. For a few more silver I can add a slide. For a gold coin I can go all out and build something like one of those parks in the rich part of the city. I handed him a gold coin.

"Do that." I said.

"Absolutely." He said as he ran off to get his crew and equipment. I went back into the house and saw the kids were returning from school.

"Lilly. Quietly have the sisters cover the back windows so the kids can’t see into the backyard. I want it to be a surprise." I whispered.

Lilly waved a couple of the sisters over and quietly passed along the message and they ran off and told all the other sisters before discretely covering all the back windows. Once all the children had returned sisters Nyx, Sandy, Elara, and Abby took the older kids to the training grounds. I went into the day room and sat on the sofa. Amber walked by and I grabbed her and pulled her onto my lap.

"How is my little fox doing?" I asked.

She giggled.

"I’m fine. I’ve been helping with the children. It’s good practice for when we have your babies." She said.

"That’s good. Let me know if you need anything." I said.

"You know I will." She said as she stood.

"Send my wolf in here." I said.

"Okay." She said as she left the room.

After a few minutes Lyra walked in.

"Amber said you wanted to see me?" She asked.

I held my arms open.

"Yes I did. I wanted to see how you are doing." I said.

She sat on my lap and wrapped an arm around my neck.

"I’m doing fine husband. I’ve been helping the sisters around the house. Since we are living here now I thought I’d help out." She said.

"That’s wonderful." I said.

"How are you doing?" She asked.

"I’m doing great. Just been walking around looking for things to fix around here. Got any ideas?" I asked.

"Not right now but I’ll let you know if I think of something." She said.

Lyra got up and returned to what she was doing. I looked at Lilly sitting next to me and pulled her onto my lap.

"How is the head sister doing?" I asked.

"The head sister is doing just fine." She replied.

"How about the other sisters?" I asked.

"They are nosey. They won’t stop asking questions about what my turn has been like." She said.

"What, are they jealous?" I chuckled.

"Nyx and Elara definitely are." She answered.

By mid afternoon all the work crews had left for the day and the older kids were still at the training grounds so the house was fairly quiet. I stood from the sofa and walked through the house inspecting all the work that’s been done and checking on my wives and the sisters that were in the house. Lilly followed me everywhere I went since Sarah ordered her to stay by my side during her turn. I made my way to the attic and took Lilly back to bed. After two hours we finished and lay in the bed breathing heavy and covered in sweat.

"Is this how it’s gonna be for the next two weeks?" Lilly asked.

"Pretty much." I said.

I put my arm under her head and pulled her into my side. After twenty minutes of laying there Sister Nyx walked in and saw us laying naked in the bed.

"Dinner is ready." She said with a grin.

"Nyx, you need to be ready to go into the forest because the day your turn starts we’re leaving." I said.

The grin on Nyx’s face instantly disappeared.

"The forest?" She whispered.

"Yes. The forest. I will need to return to the forest to earn money to keep this place going." I said.

"Okay. I will get ready." She mumbled.

Nyx turned and left the room. Lilly began giggling.

"Wiped that smirk right off her face." Lilly laughed.

"Alright. Let’s get dressed and go down for dinner." I said.

We dressed and went downstairs and Lilly ate dinner with everyone else. I watched as everyone talked happily among each other. I was even learning the names of some of the children. The oldest girl I spoke to at the pastry shop was Annie and the oldest boy is Ron. Annie has been training with a bow and Ron likes to train with an arming sword and a shield.

"Erik, I would like to go to the training grounds with the kids tomorrow. I need to practice with my bow." Amber said.

"Okay, that sounds fine." I said.

I saw the dwarves heading back to the kitchen so I followed them. Once in the kitchen I stopped them.

"Your workday ends when dinner is served. This is when the children start settling down and getting ready for bed. I don’t want your work disturbing them." I said.

"Yes sir." They all said.

"Also. All of you are prohibited from telling anyone what I am." I said.

Their collars glowed in acknowledgement of the order.
