[Tormund Steps forward]
"None of you saw Mance die! I did. The Southern King who broke our army, Stannis, wanted to burn him alive to send him a message. Jon Snow defied that cunt's orders. His arrow was mercy. What it did took courage, and that's what we need today: the courage to make peace with men we've been fighting for generations."
The woman let out a sigh of relief but did not let go of her son's arm.
"I lost my father, my uncle, and 2 brothers fighting the damn crows."
"I'm not asking you to forget your dead. I'll never forget mine. I lost 50 brothers the night that Mance attacked the wall. But I'm asking you to think about your children now. They'll never have children of their own if we don't band together. The Long Night is coming and the dead come with it. No clan can stop them. The free folk can't stop them. The Night's Watch can't stop them. And all the southern kings can't stop them. Only together, all of us, and even then it might not be enough, but at least then we'll give the fuckers a fight."
Ned gave his nephew (son in every way but the one that mattered) a proud smile. He was always a quick study and always knew what to say when. All good skills to have. His only worry was whether Jon was ready, and from what he saw, Ned understood that Jon was more than ready.
"Good speech!" Brandon the Elder grinned at his nephew, leaning back and throwing up a thumbs up.
Rickard shook his head with a small smile. "Aye, a good speech."
Jon smiled at them both, nodding at them both in gratitude.
Lyanna ruffled her son's hair affectionately, she too was proud of him.
Jon smiled at the affection, ducking his head. He did not fight the ruffle.
[There are small nods of approval throughout the room.]
"You vouch for this man, Tormund?"
"He's prettier than both my daughters,"
A round of snorts went about the hall. Jon was now blushing from embarrassment.
"But he knows how to fight. He's young, but he knows how to lead. He didn't have to come to Hardhome. He came because he needs us. And we need him."
"My ancestors would spit on me if I broke bread with a crow."
"So would mine, but fuck 'em, they're dead."
"I like this one" Oberyn grinned.
"Are you planning on bedding this one?" Doran raised a brow.
"Would that be an issue?"
"No. If you can travel all the way up there, go for it."
Elia snorted at both her brothers.
[KARSI walks in front of JON.]
"I'll never trust a man in black."
[She walks over to TORMUND.]
"But I trust you, Tormund. If you say this is the way, we're with you."
"Good enough" Jon nodded. It was a start.
"This is the way."
"I'm with Tormund. We stay here we're dead men. At least with King Crow, there's a chance."
"King Crow-"
"I suppose it is easier to say than Lord Commander of the Crows" Lyanna muttered.
Daenerys eyed her nephew closely. The reaction to being a King... Jon did not react in the way most would have, with pride or quickly correcting others. He simply rolled with it.
It wasn't a bad reaction, it was no reaction at all..
"Keep that new life you want to give us. Keep your glass, King Crow. Soon as you get on his ships they're gonna slit your throats and dump your bodies to the bottom of the Shivering Sea. That's our enemy. That has always been our enemy."
"Stubborn fool" Ned muttered angrily
[HARDHOME; SHORE]
[JON, TORMUND, and KARSI lead the Wildlings to the boats.]
"We're leaving too many behind."
"The free folk are stubborn. You know how long it took Mance to band them together. 20 fucking years."
Ned inhaled sharply.
"How long have these White Walkers been back?" the Lord of Winterfell whispered.
"Who says they were ever gone?" Jon asked.
"They must have been! Otherwise, they'd attack us sooner."
"I have seen their castle deep in the lands of always winter, Lord Stark. They were there to strengthen themselves after the last Long Night, and now they have regained full power. It was always a waiting game, never anything else."
Ned palmed his knee nervously. They'd always been there, preparing to strike once more... and they'd been forgotten! Was that planned? So years would eat away at the memory of humans and these things would attack freely without anyone believing they existed.
It struck Ned to the core... these things were planning long term all this time while the humans cannibalised themselves...
"They're running out of food and there's nothing to hunt. They'll come around."
[Cut to KARSI loading two children onto a boat.]
"Johnna is gonna look after you. She's in charge, you listen to her."
"Johnna... sounds like Jon and Johanna merged" Tyrion noted with a hum. "Odd how even with a wall between us, our naming schemes are still similar in some ways."
"I need to get the old folks on the boats. I'm right behind you, I promise."
"She's not going to make it is she..." Arya muttered. Robb grasped his sister's hand tightly but did not speak.
[HARDHOME; CABIN]
[The Giant picks up a piece of Dragonglass and strokes it intently. EDD begins picking up the pieces of glass and looks at the giant with his piece of glass. WUN WUN turns to EDD and stares at him annoyed. He speaks in the old tongue and EDD leaves. Dogs are barking outside.]
[HARDHOME; SHORE]
[JON loads girls onto a boat and then turns to hear the dogs barking. The wind starts whipping from a neighbouring cliff and the dogs start whimpering.]
"Oh no," Lyanna muttered. She may have spoken, but everyone realised it at the same time. The enemy was on them...
"Shut the gate."
[Men hurry towards the gate to board it up. More howling from the distance. The Wildlings on the other side of the gate begin charging the gate. Men rush to put a board in place to hold the gate shut. LOBODA walks to the gate with his axe and peers through a small hole in the wall. There is a faint scream in the distance, then a wight charges at the hole in the wall.]
"Fuck!" Tyrion swore. That one caught him off guard. Many more jumped at that.
[The wights claw at the gate. Arrows are nocked and fired. A wight sticks his hand through the gate and LOBODA chops it off. A wight tries to climb the gate.]
[HARDHOME; CABIN]
[Wights crawl to the top of the cabin and jump through the hole in the roof. The men prepare their weapons and the giant growls.]
[HARDHOME; GATE]
[One wight tries to climb under the gate. A barrage of arrows flies at the wights trying to get through the wall. The wight crawls even further under the gate. Some wights start making holes in the gate. A sword sticks through the gate coming close to LOBODA. LOBODA dodges the sword, looks down to see the wight crawling under the gate, and stomps its head in.]
"They are outnumbered and ill-equipped to handle them" Robert muttered grimly. Only Dragonglass could kill them, and they did not have that many at hand...
"It will be fine. You'll get out of there and into the boats" Lyanna muttered to herself, grasping Jon's hand tighter. The words for for her and not her son, even if it sounded the other way around.
