Chapter 430: Daphne

I fell into this world a year ago and it is... ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous.

In a world hidden away from humans, there are werewolves, fated mates, and vampires—though the vampires in this world seem to be evil and brainless.

It starts with some girl, the female lead Seraphina—an Omega wolf. She is rejected by her mate and is about to die from heartbreak. Literally die, because that is apparently something that happens in this world. Then she is found by four men following her scent, claiming they are her true mates. Blah, blah, blah. It is revealed she is the legendary Luna.

Blah, blah, blah. Some final fight with a vampire. Blah, blah, blah. Happily ever after with her four mates.

Had it really been happily ever after, I would not have a job to do.

Turns out the fragile peace and union of the three packs—formed because of her mates and the final fight with the vampires—was just that. Fragile.

These are packs with different cultures. These so-called men are stereotypical macho men with pride and possessive streaks. Not to mention, even if they said they did not care who the father of their mate’s child was, the father became very obvious as the boy grew. And the dear female lead is not getting pregnant again.

Eventually, the biological father of the boy developed a sense of superiority over the other men. They hated it. Two of the men were brothers with a rivalry. The last man was originally too prideful anyway to share a woman.

Eventually, two packs refused to let the boy rule over all of them because he was not their blood. This resulted in a rebellion and civil war among the wolves—not to separate, but to decide who was worthy of ruling over them all.

Turns out the fourth man cheated because he wanted a son of his own. The brothers got into a fight during the civil war over who would rule their pack.

Everything was a shitshow, really.

But one interesting thing—all of this was happening on a park, a wildlife reserve, away from the human world.

So I bought this piece of land with help from the System. We hacked and found local corrupt politicians to bribe, so that I, a random person, could own such a large part of the reserve.

So I own the land. They are living on it legally.

I decide to come check out the place and find my daughter and wife are being bullied?

Also—my daughter?! I think happily.

A smile tugs at my lips before I can stop it.

"Who are you?" Some large man growls.

Oh no. How scary. Ah. So scared. Big. Tough. Man.

Honestly, the men on my crew were scarier than this, with their rotten teeth, missing limbs, scarred faces. Those were scary. Not these men here.

I step forward, letting the firelight catch my face.

"I’m Daphne. Daphne Han. Panther. Handsome. Millionaire."

I walk toward my beautiful red-haired woman and pull her by her waist. She stiffens for just a moment, startled, then relaxes into my hold. Her green eyes search my face, confused but not afraid.

"This beautiful woman’s mate," I continue, "mother of this darling little girl."

She looks at me curiously from her mother’s side and an arrow shoots straight through my heart.

I turn to face the man—the Alpha who had been growling moments before.

"And the owner of this land."

Everyone is silent. Only the sound of the fire and crickets can be heard.

The blonde Alpha steps forward.

"You cannot just—"

"I can." I keep my voice calm. "I bought it. Fair and square. Paid the humans. Signed the papers. It’s mine."

"No." He steps closer, his voice low and dangerous. "These are pack lands. They have been for centuries. You cannot just walk in and act like you own this place."

I subtly place my family behind me and stand toe to toe with him. He towers over me. What is he? Six-foot-seven? I glance at the female lead—she is barely five-foot-six—and shake my head in disgust at the height difference.

He tries to touch me.

Big mistake.

I twist his arm like he is a child and toss him into the air. He lands hard, gasping.

The three other men rush toward me.

I do not move.

The first one,dark-haired, broad-shouldered, the one who looks like he is used to being feared—swings at my head. I duck under his arm, grab his wrist, and use his momentum to send him crashing into the dirt.

He does not get up quickly I probably broke some bones.

The second one also dark haired probably the brother of the previous one comes at me with claws extended. He is faster than the first, more controlled. I sidestep his strike, pivot, and drive my elbow into his ribs. He stumbles back, gasping.

The last one is cold abs calculating abd circles around me.

"Come on," I say. "I do not have all night."

He lunges.

I meet him head-on. He’s a better fighter than the three earlier idiots. But it’s me, I catch his arm, twist, and slam him to the ground.

He stays down.

I look at the four of them—sprawled in the dirt, bleeding, humiliated.

"Did you think you were the biggest, baddest things on the planet?" I ask. "How absolutely arrogant."

The female lead steps in.

"What do you want from us?" she asks.

Now she steps in. Being cordial after it is obvious they cannot use force.

"From you?" I snort. "What could I possibly gain from you?"

I take a step back toward my family.

"I’m only here because my family is here."

I take my daughter from her arms. She hesitates at first—her dark eyes searching my face—before she comes to me, her small arms wrapping around my neck. I missed this, when Alira became a teenager she was so stingy with hugs.

I kiss her hair.

"Since it is late, and I have to catch up with my family," I say, "let us have this conversation tomorrow. Okay?"
