It made her look like a handsome, sharp-featured young man. It was how she had survived the sect’s strict and male-dominated world.
But now, the artifact was struggling.
Her new Body Fusion Qi was simply too powerful, and she could see the softer shape of her face.
The natural curve of her cheeks, full lips, silver-flecked eyes, and her long, beautiful eyelashes.
Ji’an slowly raised a hand and touched her hair.
’I look like a stranger.’ She stared at herself. ’But I also look like me.’
It was a strange feeling.
She had spent so long pretending to be the Red Menace. Pretending to be a young master, someone who could never be embarrassed or afraid.
She had almost forgotten what it felt like to simply be Lin Ji’an.
The girl who loved baking bread, who hated toxic male leads...
"Alright. Enough emotional nonsense."
Ji’an shook her head.
"If I don’t fix this, I will have to fight off eighty marriage proposals every time I leave the room."
She needed to reset the artifact.
The ancient locket was hidden beneath the tunic she wore under her clothes. Her father had told her exactly what to do if the illusion ever became unstable.
Take it off. Break the spiritual connection for ten minutes. Let the artifact cool down. Then put it back on.
Simple.
Ji’an glanced toward the barricaded door.
’The boys are exhausted. Zechuan is off counting sand. The Azure Dragon disciples are probably still hiding under their beds.’ She looked around the heavily protected master suite. ’I have eighteen defensive arrays around this room.’
Her tactical mind came to a conclusion.
’Whatever, It is completely safe.’
Her logic was perfect.
Unfortunately, she was living inside a trashy BL novel where the yandere male leads and villains seemed capable of ignoring the laws of reality.
Ji’an reached up and loosened the collar of her white inner tunic.
She slipped her hand beneath the fabric and found the locket. Her fingers closed around the cold metal.
Click.
The chain came loose.
She pulled the locket out and placed it carefully on the vanity.
The moment the artifact left her body, the last part of the illusion disappeared.
Her shoulders softened, the sharpness of her jaw vanished, and her body returned completely to its natural feminine form.
Fortunately, the loose male tunic still hid most of her figure.
Ji’an sighed in relief.
She untied the red bandana from her forehead.
Her silver hair fell freely around her shoulders.
And then—
The temperature dropped.
Not slightly or gradually.
The entire room froze as Black frost exploded across the floor.
It crawled up the legs of the vanity as Ice spread across the bronze mirror. The water in the washbasin froze solid with a sharp crack, and the silk curtains became stiff and covered in tiny crystals of ice.
Ji’an froze.
The red bandana slipped from her fingers.
The eighteen defensive arrays on the door remained silent, the explosive talismans did not activate, and the Black Iron Wok did not move.
Because whoever had entered had never touched the door.
"You did not lock the spatial coordinates of the room’s ambient moisture, Chef."
The voice was low.
Deep.
Cold.
Ji’an slowly turned her head.
Standing in the darkest corner of the room was Xie Wangchen.
The Sovereign disciple, of the Eternal Cloud Peak, as well as her little puddle.
But at this moment, she expected the least of all people, to him coming here.
He had entered through a ice-displacement technique. His white robes were completely clean, the long silver hair almost glowed in the darkness.
But his eyes were what truly frightened Ji’an. His ruby eyes were wide, his pupils had expanded until they almost swallowed the red. And he was staring at her with an intensity that made the room feel smaller.
It was not simply a stare.
It felt like he wanted to memorize every part of her.
’He bypassed the wards?’
Ji’an’s mind went blank.
’I took off the locket... so I am actually a woman right now... I am standing in a loose tunic.’
HE IS IN MY ROOM...!!!
’WHAT THE HECK DOES HE THINK HE IS DOING HERE???!!!’
WHAT IF HE... HE SEES AND REALIZE...!!!’
"Wangchen..."
Ji’an tried to call him with the calmest voice as possible as she can make, but her voice came out softer than usual.
"What are you doing here?"
Wangchen did not answer.
He slowly stepped out of the shadows.
Black frost cracked beneath his boots. He was no longer acting like the calm and supportive partner everyone knew. What happened in the courtyard had broken something inside him.
He had watched dozens of men stare at Ji’an, watched them offer flowers, and heard them talk about marriage. And now, the restraint he usually kept around himself was barely holding together.
"Brother Ji’an..."
"They looked at you," Wangchen whispered.
He took another step. "They dared to look at you."
Another step. "They offered you flowers."
His voice became colder. "They offered you vows."
He stopped in front of her. "It was unacceptable."
His Absolute Zero aura filled the room.
The walls seemed to close in.
"There were so many of them."
His eyes darkened. "I should have shattered them."
Ji’an swallowed.
"I should have turned the courtyard into a graveyard."
His voice remained strangely calm.
"But I didn’t."
He looked directly at her.
"Because I knew you would come here."
His expression softened.
"Somewhere quiet."
A pause.
"Somewhere where it would be just the two of us."
Ji’an took a step backward.
Her hip hit the edge of the bronze vanity. She was trapped.
"Wangchen, listen to me."
She tried to use her usual young-master voice.
It failed terribly.
"It was a misunderstanding! They didn’t know it was me!"
She pointed toward the door.
"You need to leave. Right now. You are... you are violating the sect rules... I’m in the middle of something important, leave right now...!"
Wangchen ignored her. In one smooth movement, he crossed the remaining distance.
