There was a presence outside his barrier, knocking against it. He would usually not pay attention because small animals and children bumped into it often enough.

But today he was feeling lonely, so he decided to look outside and check what was interfering with his barrier, only to see a shady-looking pair waiting for him right outside.

Their presence piqued Kael’s curiosity, and he opened the barrier for them, allowing them entry.

A normal person would have felt scared and decided to run away once the barrier opened on its own, but the shady pair did not do that. Instead, they walked inside the barrier, heading straight toward Kael’s main house with their heads held high.

It took them five minutes to reach his mansion in their carriage, and Kael finally got a good look at his new guests.

It was a noblewoman with her middle-aged butler, both dressed in purple and bearing a familiar-looking crest. Kael was trying to recall where he had seen that crest before when the noblewoman bowed her head.

"Grand Master Kael, it is an honor to be in your presence. My name is Marsha Noelle, the second daughter of the Noelle family. And today, I have come to you with an urgent request."

She kept her head lowered, but her sharp eyes looked up at Kael with a piercing gaze he had seldom seen before.

"I would like to request that you save my brother’s life and bring him back home. He has recently gone missing, and I am afraid that our territory needs him."

It was an earnest request, but Kael’s instincts told him that he should say no.

"Hmm, I am afraid that you have the wrong person for the job. If you need help, then either head to the Mage Tower or the temple. I have no intention of helping you."

Kael outright refused the noblewoman without any hesitation. He was not about to put his life on the line for a noble he knew nothing about.

Knowing the patterns so far, he expected the noblewoman to start raging about being rejected at any second. But he was shocked when she simply straightened herself and nodded.

"I understand your refusal. But I refuse to accept it. I will come back tomorrow to ask the same question, and I will keep coming back until you accept. I am a daughter of the Noelle family, and I will do whatever I need to ensure the safety of our people."

Marsha Noelle spoke softly before Kael waved his hand, and the barrier threw her and her butler out.

"My lady, what do you wish to do now?"

her butler asked, and Marsha Noelle shook her head in determination.

"What we need to do is simple—we will keep coming back until Grand Master Kael agrees to help us. This is a matter of life and death for the people of our lands."

She spoke with utter determination. She was even ready to seduce Grand Master Kael and make him take responsibility if that was what it took to bring him back to her lands.

After all, her dignity was a small price to pay for the sake of saving her people’s lives. But her butler did not seem to think the same.

"Miss, don’t say that! How can you even think of sacrificing yourself for a purpose like that? I won’t allow it—"

"You don’t have to allow it. I have made up my mind, and I will stick by it. Grand Master Kael will help our people, or I will die trying."

...

Kael watched what was happening outside his barrier with the help of his magic, and he could not help but let out a sigh of distress.

Honestly, Marsha Noelle’s conviction was impressive, and her courage was commendable. She had managed to come all the way here to ask for help, which impressed Kael.

But simply being impressed by her was not enough for him to want to help her. He needed to stay out of trouble and not get involved with her any further. Otherwise, he was afraid he was going to face a challenge he was not ready for.

"It was the right decision to send her back."

Kael told himself and went to sleep.

He did not expect Lady Marsha Noelle to come back after she had been humiliated by him the day before. But somehow, he found himself sitting in front of her the next morning, drinking tea she had prepared.

"It has a nice aroma, right? I specifically brought this tea as a gift because it is said to combat fatigue and rejuvenate one’s skin...not that I think you need it or anything. A-Anyway, this is a gift from me to you."

Lady Marsha’s butler handed Kael a small, highly decorated pouch. But the real gift was inside—the tea leaves.

Kael was not particularly fond of tea, but he still decided to accept the gift.

However, his stance on the matter did not change, even with this bribe.

"I already told you, Lady Marsha—my stance on helping you won’t change, no matter what. Please make a formal request at the Mage Tower if you need help. Or is there a reason you don’t want to do that?"

Kael asked, trying to fish for more information, and Lady Marsha instantly flinched at his words.

"I...it’s not that I do not want to seek more help, but I don’t trust those people from the Tower. You, on the other hand, were the Hero’s teacher, and you have strong morals. So you are the right person for this task."

Lady Marsha confessed, lying through her teeth, but Kael did not point it out and allowed her to keep speaking.

"Besides, I would simply prefer to have you work with me. You seem much safer to work with. So please, agree to help me. I promise you will be compensated fairly. I will provide you with any riches you can think of."

Once more, it was a tempting offer, but Kael was not interested. He already had plenty of riches, and this situation was making him feel more and more suspicious.

"Lady Marsha, please leave now. I told you that I have no intention of helping you."
