Raising Yanderes to save the world

Chapter 189: Ch 188: Stepping Back

’This person is...Kael’s brother...? They don’t feel alike at all.’

Even if Adrian resembled Kael (it should be the other way around), their essence was entirely different. In the eyes of demons like Lyra, they felt like people from different origins.

But if she looked carefully, there was a certain elegance in Kael that he shared with the man in front of her. As for her other opponent? He lacked any sense of grace and was rather rough around the edges.

"Tsk, big brother Kael’s guests? He did not tell us he was going to get any. We would have prepared a warmer welcome had we known."

Nathan complained as he finally walked toward Adrian and stood tall beside him.

Lyra felt a growl forming in her throat as soon as she saw the pair, but Leon gave her a look that told her to calm down.

Moreover, he also had Kael’s fresh scent on him, which meant that he had met Kael recently. It forced Lyra to calm down, and her powers slowly retreated back into her body, allowing her to regain her human form.

Adrian looked at them for a few seconds before he struck his mana-formed sword against the ground and passed judgment.

"You all will not be welcomed into our territory as guests. Please leave now before you make this issue any bigger."

Lyra had just regained her human form when she felt a growl building in her throat.

"I am not heading back without taking Kael with me. Hand him over-"

She was ready to fight for Kael’s sake when Leon interfered once more, positioning himself in front of her so that she could only see his back.

Somehow, Leon was already taller than her at the current age of fourteen, and that irked her pride as the Demon Queen.

And he bruised it further by bowing in front of these people without a hint of regret on his face.

"We understand. We will be taking our leave now. Kael has assured me that he is alright, and he would like to stay here for some time. So I would like to respect his wishes as well. However, please remind him that he needs to keep in contact with us regularly."

Leon took their opponents’ side, which made Lyra feel as if she was losing her mind.

How could Leon, of all people, agree that Kael needed to stay here? Was he even listening to what he was saying?

Their opponents made a dismissive noise before, with one last glance, they walked back behind the barrier.

Finally, Leon looked back at her and then at Elena’s unconscious body not too far away before picking her up.

"We should regroup with Seraphina and Iris before heading back. Now that we have checked up on Kael, there is no reason for us to be here."

Leon pointed out without a hint of remorse on his face, but Lyra was not ready to accept his words.

Her hands moved on their own and grabbed Leon’s collar, pulling him down to her level.

"Hey, have you lost your mind? How can you even think of leaving Kael here all alone? He needs to come back-"

"This is not my decision. Kael is the one who decided he wants to stay behind. I am just following his wishes. That’s all."

Leon pointed out without a hint of emotion in his voice. He looked just as stubborn as Lyra did at that moment. Neither side was willing to back down.

But between Leon’s unwavering attitude and Lyra’s determination to take Kael back, there could only be one winner.

And Lyra decided she was going to be that winner. She walked past Leon toward the barrier when Leon made her freeze with his words.

"Kael might hate you forever if you try to force your way past this barrier. Are you sure you would be able to bear that?"

Leon was a bastard who did not hold back his words. He was preying on Lyra’s insecurities even now, making her freeze.

She looked back at him while biting her lip, looking like she had no idea what she should do next.

Thankfully, she made her decision quickly.

"Tsk, you won this time. But if you are telling me this, then you must have a timeline that Kael gave you. When is he going to return to us?"

She asked, and Leon nodded to show that he had received news from Kael.

"He told me to wait one year and eight months, and I intend to do that. What you decide to do now is up to you."

Lyra looked deflated at the news. One year and eight months was a long time, making her want to complain. But Leon’s next words drained even that intention out of her.

"Kael looked almost desperate when he told me this. He has his own reasons why he cannot leave this family or this barrier, and one of them is that he might lose his life. Are you still going to take that risk and bring him out?"

Leon knew what he was doing, and that made Lyra even more annoyed with him.

"You bastard! You already knew there was only one decision to make here. Fine, I will play along with you this time. I will wait for Kael to come back."

Lyra was finally convinced, but the problem had never been her.

He had no idea how Seraphina would take Kael’s decision. In the worst case, she might refuse to accept it and even demand that they bring him back by any means necessary.

’Ah, but we can deal with that when the time comes. I am sure I can subdue her for now, and I will ask Iris to help me out...mostly...’

Leon sighed while mentally preparing himself for the problem he was about to face. He wanted to run away from this situation if possible...but...

’I am doing this for Kael and this world’s safety. Let’s just endure a few tantrums and get it over with.’
