"Hey, we are here with supplies. Don’t make any sudden movements, and you won’t get hurt—"

The guard entered the room, only to get dragged even farther inside by Leon. Kael knocked him out before he could do anything else.

The elf guard never expected anyone to be able to use magic inside the cell, so he was not prepared to face the trio and lost in the end.

’Darn it! It is so hard to cast magic in this cell. I better get out of here as soon as possible.’

Kael was panting with a flushed face as he tried to control his shaking hands. But his body refused to listen to his commands, causing his magic to leak out inside the cell.

The anti-magic lining around the cell made it extremely difficult for Kael to cast magic, much less control it. But he was determined to cast it anyway, making it possible to bypass the anti-magic system.

But he had to pay the price with his energy.

"Teacher, please don’t push yourself too much. I knew I should have done this instead."

Seraphina looked guilty as she stared at Kael. Her eyes were soft, and her hands trembled as they tried to reach out and steady him.

But Kael simply ruffled the Saintess’s hair before pulling himself back to his feet.

"Don’t be ridiculous. How could I let you face such danger all on your own? Besides, the anti-holy power properties of this room are ten times stronger than the anti-magic ones. You would collapse before you were even able to open your mouth."

Kael pointed out, and Seraphina pouted. But she knew that Kael was right, and that made her sigh and agree with him.

"Alright, but please tell us if you start feeling dizzy. You have a tendency to hide things from us."

Seraphina pointed out, and Kael felt like he was being backed into a corner by her.

For now, the only way to pacify her was to agree. So he nodded and promised to tell her if he started feeling dizzy.

Once they were outside, it became easier for Kael to breathe and use magic. He instantly cast a concealment spell over all of them to change their appearances into those of elf guards. They tested the spell by walking around, but no one suspected that they were outsiders.

And that was how they made their way to the elf tree, only to be stopped by actual elf guards patrolling the area.

"Excuse me, but ordinary people are not permitted to approach the elf tree. Please state your names and the purpose of your visit."

The guard standing in front of the enclosed area asked as he blocked their way. His eyes lingered suspiciously on Kael and the others, making them panic internally.

But Kael remained calm on the outside and looked at the guard with a gentle but earnest expression.

"We are newly recruited elves from the outskirts, so we don’t know much about the rules here yet. But I heard a lot about the elf tree from my mother, and I wanted to see it for myself. Is there really no way you can allow us inside?"

Kael asked in an almost desperate voice. But the guard sneered at his words.

"Tsk, do you think this is the first time I’ve heard such an excuse? The elf tree is not for the likes of lowly people like you. Now scram—"

"Are you sure you cannot help me? We came from so far away that going back now would be disappointing..."

Seraphina stepped forward to try and convince the guard as well. Unfortunately, her appearance earned a very different response.

He looked her up and down with impure intentions in his eyes, even licking his lips before changing his tone.

"Well, maybe I can turn a blind eye and let you into the forbidden section, but there will be a price to pay. Do you think you can afford it, young lady?"

The elf guard made an obscene gesture toward Seraphina, which immediately made Kael frown. He gently pushed at Seraphina’s back, urging her to walk away.

"I’m afraid we cannot afford your price. Unfortunately, it is time for us to head back."

Kael was not going to allow the guard to make advances toward the Saintess. He did not like the way the guard was looking at Seraphina...but more than that, Kael was afraid of what Seraphina might do to the guard.

She was already looking at him as if he were prey, and she was itching to get her hands on him.

Kael gestured toward Leon to do something, and Leon nodded. But just before he could act, someone else walked over and decided to help them out.

"What is going on here? Would anyone like to explain this to me?"

Kana had arrived, and she looked annoyed that her guards were arguing with other elves.

The guard in question flinched and immediately straightened his posture.

"I am doing my duty, my lady. As per your orders, no one is allowed to catch even a glimpse of the elf tree. So I was just making sure these outsiders did not get in."

The guard looked proud as he said that, and Kana sighed at his words. She shook her head before looking at Kael and his companions.

Kael was sure that she could not see through his illusion, but he still felt tense as he watched her carefully.

In the end, Kana made a move he did not expect.

"It is alright. I can tell these elves have come from far away and simply wish to see the elf tree for themselves. I can make an exception and allow them inside."

Kana decided, and the guard looked utterly shocked and displeased by her words.

"Lady Kana, we cannot allow—"

"The elf tree belongs to all elves, and we all have an equal right to visit it. It is the reason our people exist, and we should take pride in it. I know it is fragile, but how can I turn away people who came all this way just to see it?"

Kana was a good leader with a talent for putting people at ease. That made her beloved among her people.

Kael even remembered that she had been very popular among the elves in his past life. Some had even called her the "Face of the Elves."

Of course, Kael did not have time to deal with her, nor did he want to because of her sister.
