Raising Yanderes to save the world
Chapter 231: Ch 230: Outside Distractions’When is this guy going to betray me? I want him to hurry so that I can expose his true colors and get rid of him.’
Kana looked behind her at Adrian following her with an irritated look on her face. She could tell that he was up to no good, and she wanted him to hurry up and betray her.
But Adrian was not only keeping a proper distance from her, he also wore a harmless smile on his face while doing so. It was throwing Kana off.
In the end, she kept getting distracted and had to pull herself back on track several times before realizing that Adrian was not going to give her a reason to get rid of him so easily.
So she decided to keep an eye on him for now while working on the tasks in front of her.
So far, she had called for an elf-wide meeting that was going to take place tomorrow, and once it ended, they were going to begin their rebellion. Those elves who held positions of power were getting ready to act as soon as she gave the signal, and Kana could not have been more satisfied.
But something in the back of her mind kept bothering her. It was as if she were forgetting something important.
’I am sure it will be fine. I will deal with any problem that arises when the time comes...’
This was what she decided as she nodded to herself. But it did not take long for a panicked elf to burst into her office with a terrified expression.
"Lady Kana, this is an emergency. We can see the demon forces marching toward us, and we might be attacked soon. We are not ready to defend ourselves. What should we do?"
Kana was shocked by the news as well. She had not expected the demons to involve themselves in her plans, so she had made no preparations for them.
"Just who is foolish enough to bring demons to attack me? Do you know who is behind this attack?"
She asked in an annoyed voice, and the guard looked uncomfortable but decided to answer.
"We checked, and i-it’s the demon queen, Lyra. She and her troops will reach our city soon. What if they discover our secret and decide to eliminate us? I don’t want to die!"
The elf cried in fear and crouched down to make himself appear smaller. It was not going to help, but Kana still felt sorry for her subordinate.
She placed a hand on his shoulder and helped him back to his feet.
"Don’t worry! We are not going to die. I have someone here who can take care of those demons for me. Adrian, it is time to prove your worth and loyalty to me."
Kana turned toward the human duke who had stayed by her side. If there was anyone who could hold those demons at bay, it would be Adrian.
So even though she knew Adrian intended to betray her, she wanted to take this opportunity to make use of him. Once this was over, she would dispose of him.
Adrian sighed as he gave Kana a disapproving look.
"I don’t like the fact that you want to use me. But since it is you, I guess I can make an exception this time and help you out."
Adrian sighed before agreeing to help her.
But Kana was not fooled by his easygoing nature.
As soon as Adrian had left, she turned toward the guard, and he flinched.
"M-My lady?"
The guard asked in a low voice, and Kana immediately gave him an order.
"Keep an eye on that man. He is not on our side, even if he pretends to be. I am not sure what he is planning, but it certainly won’t be pleasant if he succeeds."
The guard nodded before quickly turning around and leaving. Kana let out a sigh as it all happened and wondered where things had gone wrong.
"Why is this happening? I did everything I could to prevent that future...my sister even gave her life! So why...? Can we not avoid our extinction?"
The future Kana had seen showed the elves burning beneath holy flames. The corruption would be purified, and with it, their entire race would perish.
And such a future had no right to exist in the first place. Kana refused to believe that they had all been born only to die.
"Hehehehehe! Is that what drove Selene mad? No wonder she was in a grumpy mood all the time. I should have understood her better and comforted her when she needed it."
Maybe then, her younger sister would not have had to carry this burden alone, and she would have been able to live a carefree life.
In the first place, the one who should have become the high elf was Kana, and this burden belonged to all of them.
"But don’t worry, Selene. I will have our revenge soon. And once we gather enough power, I will reconstruct your body and bring you back. That is the least I can do for someone like you."
Kana promised before looking outside. The elf tree stood tall, displaying its magnificence over their territory.
But one moment it was fine, and the next, it began to burn rapidly. The sight took Kana by surprise, causing her eyes to widen.
"What is going on here? Why is the tree on fire? Shit! I need to go and save the tree!"
Kana quickly ran outside, and she was not the only one. The other elves had noticed the tree burning as well, and they were trying to get close to it. But a holy barrier blocked their way.
"Lady Kana, what is happening?"
A few elves asked in frightened voices as they looked at the flames that had begun to engulf their homes. But Kana had no answer for them, mainly because she was trapped in her nightmare.
Everything was burning, and the heat kept rising. Her skin felt as though it were on fire, and Kana clutched her arms before letting out an agonizing cry of pain.
