Raising Yanderes to save the world
Chapter 237: Ch 236: The Council’s Call"Ughhh, do we really have to stand in front of those nobles? I don’t like the idea at all."
Lyra instantly showed her dislike for the noble council and their summons. Since she was the Demon Queen, her standing was far above that of any noble, and it felt insulting to be questioned.
Still, she was willing to bear it if it was for Kael’s sake...or so she told herself. But she knew that the real reason she was coming along was because she did not want to part with Kael so soon.
"You don’t have to come if you don’t want to. We can handle things just fine without you."
Seraphina pointed out with a calm look on her face, and that agitated Lyra even more. Seraphina’s gaze almost felt like it was taunting her, and Lyra quickly stomped her foot in a childish manner as she spoke.
"Hey! I am coming along anyway, so you better be grateful for it. I, Lyra the Demon Queen, will grace you with my presence and help you out. Those fools will be too in awe of my presence to say anything to me."
Seraphina just shook her head at Lyra’s confidence, but she did not say anything after that. Soon, they arrived at the council’s territory, and Kael got out first, followed by Leon and the others.
The members of the duke’s family were also there, and they all entered the main hall at the same time.
The human emperor was sitting behind a curtain while the other nobles occupied their high seats. The hall had been designed so that those elevated chairs made the council members seem like godly beings passing judgment on the person standing below.
Not that it affected Kael. He simply stood in the designated place and waited for the council to begin speaking.
Finally, Adrian and the others took their places as well, and the secretary cleared his throat to signal the start of the session.
"Everyone, thank you for joining us today. As you know, today we are going to discuss an important matter—the tragedy of the elf village. Do any of you have anything to say for yourselves?"
The nobles asked, but no one answered. The people being accused merely looked up at them with bored expressions.
That made the secretary smirk, feeling as if he had already won. So he continued in an arrogant voice, not realizing that he was digging his own grave.
"We have contacted the temple and found that this purification was carried out without authorization. This also caused all the elves to suffer at the same time. Should you all not be punished for this crime? I believe confiscating your territories and imposing a fine would be the proper course of action."
The secretary was too drunk on power. That was the only explanation Kael could think of for such foolish behavior. Moreover, he was even invoking the temple’s name while forgetting one very important fact—
Kael’s side had Seraphina, the temple’s legal representative and the Saintess. She was the highest authority in the temple, and her word was law.
She quickly stepped forward, her eyes fixed on the secretary with amused disgust.
"Are you saying that the temple is the one who told you this purification was unlawful?"
She asked, and the secretary suddenly realized that his argument was falling apart. But he could not take back what he had said since it had already been recorded using magic.
So, instead of backtracking, he decided to double down, showing that he fully intended to challenge Seraphina.
"That is right! The temple considers this an unlawful purification. Do you have anything to say regarding this, Lady Seraphina?"
He asked, challenging her.
The last time he had met Seraphina, she had been a shy young girl who refused to speak unless absolutely necessary. Based on that impression, he was sure she would remain silent this time as well.
But Seraphina decided to prove him wrong.
A small smile appeared on her face as she looked up at him with shining eyes.
"As expected. You are a scum who only does as he pleases without knowing his place."
She muttered, and everyone stared at her in shock. She took advantage of their attention and spread her arms before them.
"Listen carefully, everyone. My will is the will of the temple. I am the current Saintess, Seraphina. And I hereby declare that this purification was necessary. The temple stands in support of this purification."
Her words echoed throughout the room, and everyone paused before erupting into discussion all at once.
"This is not good—"
"How can the temple support mass murder?"
"The Saintess has lost her mind. We need to separate her from Kael immediately—"
The nobles were quick to search for any weakness they could exploit. But this time, Kael was not going to let them succeed.
"You all need to calm down. The fact that you are saying all this without even having the facts straight means that you are only trying to pressure us. Isn’t that right?"
He asked, and the council members flinched at his words.
"Grand Master Kael, please do not speak unless you are addressed. This has nothing to do with you—"
"But it has everything to do with me. And since it has to do with me, it also has to do with my teacher."
Leon stepped forward, and his presence made everyone fall silent. Not that Leon cared as he continued.
"The elf forest was contaminated with corruption. It had seeped so deeply that it had even infected the elf tree. We had no choice but to burn it down. Unless...you are saying that the elves should have continued to bear the burden of that corruption."
Leon asked, turning his accusing gaze toward the council.
Most of them fell silent, unable to answer him, but that was to be expected.
They were all bark and no bite.
"Don’t worry. This will be an easy victory for our side."
