Raising Yanderes to save the world
Chapter 246: Ch 245: Dragon’s Frontier AssultThere was no time to think about the female dragon’s words. The dragons were closing in, and they would do irreparable damage if they were not stopped right then.
Ken and his forces had already started forming a defensive formation against these outsiders, but there were simply too many of them.
Kael used his magic to erect a barrier around the settlement immediately, and it made Ken look a little relieved. But the barrier was not going to hold forever against this barrage of attacks coming from the outside.
"This is not good! The barrier is going to come down any second now. Kael, how long can you hold it?"
This was the first thing Ken asked instead of greeting him, and Kael turned his attention toward the barrier that was draining his magic.
"I will be able to hold on for ten minutes before I have to recast the spell. Do you think you can handle the fight during that time?"
Kael asked, and Ken looked troubled. But he soon took a deep breath, and his eyes turned serious.
"The question is not whether I can handle this fight in ten minutes or not, but that I have to do it within ten minutes. Our people were not ready for this attack, and they might all die if I’m not able to bring the dragons down."
Ken was serious, and his determination caused Leon to join him as well.
"I will provide support for your attack. Let me know what I can do to help."
Leon promised, and Ken nodded. The others were supporting Kael’s barrier, which lessened his burden considerably, but Kael knew he could handle the pressure alone. He would much rather have everyone else fighting the dragons.
"Seraphina, Lyra, provide backup for the fighters. Iris, Elena, I’m counting on you to keep everyone safe from here on. I can handle the pressure of maintaining this barrier by myself."
Kael promised in a soft voice, but instead of agreement, he was met with worried looks.
"Are you sure you want to do this? You can always—"
"I know what I’m doing. I’ll be able to handle this without much trouble. So go and help the others right now. The sooner we get through this, the sooner we can relax."
Kael pointed out, and everyone else sighed at his words. They knew how stubborn he was and how unwilling he was to take no for an answer.
"Alright, we’ll go and help the guards. Just...make sure you stay safe as well."
Seraphina told him, and Kael almost scoffed at her words. There was no way he was going to die in this assault.
But he did not show much emotion since he noticed the concerned look Seraphina was giving him. It weighed on his conscience to brush off her concern, but he knew it was important that she not draw too much attention to herself.
’It would be for the best if only my name comes up as the one helping here. But since that’s impossible, I’d rather people not pay much attention to these kids.’
Kael sighed, and his magic suddenly grew stronger, causing chains to erupt from the barrier. They wrapped around the dragons flying in the sky, pulling them down one by one. Their bodies collided before crashing into the ground.
The soldiers, who had been waiting for such an opportunity, rushed out to fight the dragons. Their weapons struck the dragons’ thick hides, but they were unable to penetrate their scales.
While the humans (and a demon queen) tried to keep the grounded dragons pinned down, the others attacked the barrier in an attempt to tear it apart.
Kael flinched as the barrier endured the combined force of the dragons slamming into it one after another. But he held it firm, refusing to give in for even a second.
"If you want the dragons to retreat, then you need to strike down their formation leader. In this case, it would be that red dragon right in the middle, leading the flock."
The female dragon leaning against Kael’s shoulder pointed with a guilty expression. She did not want to give him this information, but she had to if she wanted to save her own life and have a chance to return home.
Kael nodded and aimed his attack at the dragon she had pointed out. As soon as he saw an opening, his chains wrapped around the red dragon and started pulling it down.
"Good! This should be the end—"
But another beautiful dragon emerged from behind the red one, and the female dragon on Kael’s shoulder let out a gasp.
"No way! That’s...me? But how can that be? And the red dragon...? Was it a decoy? Have the dragons fallen so far that they would use such a cheap trick?"
The female dragon exclaimed in disbelief, unable to accept what she was seeing. The fact that someone who looked exactly like her was among the dragons made her feel weak.
That look-alike opened its mouth and began gathering magic to attack the barrier, and the others quickly followed. Kael knew it was going to be a devastating attack, so he reinforced his barrier with everything he had.
The two forces collided with a thunderous crack, and Kael’s barrier barely held against the impact.
"T-The Grand Master is so strong! He held back those dragons!"
"How terrifying. I’m so glad he’s on our side. But the barrier won’t last much longer at this rate. What should we do now?"
Panic was beginning to spread among their forces, and Kael quickly looked around for someone who could take the fake dragon out.
Ken and Leon met his eyes, and they both nodded to show that they already knew what to do.
Leon used the opening to leap into the air and attack the fake dragon first while Ken provided cover. Caught off guard, the dragons were taken by surprise, allowing the duo to strike the dragon they had been targeting.
But they were unable to inflict much damage.
