The world magic lit up the cave around Kael, and he felt its warmth starting to push back the corruption.

"This magic...it feels different. It’s so warm and comforting. I don’t think I have ever felt anything like this before."

Even Seraphina let out a gasp of wonder as she reached out to feel this magic around her. But it was far too fleeting for her to be able to grasp it.

They all watched as Lyra guided the female dragon on how to challenge her brother. But the corruption was blocking their way.

"I will help you out. Just give me some time."

Seraphina snapped out of her daze and immediately started to use her holy magic to help the other two. Everything was going well until there was a sudden yell, and then a huge dragon rushed toward them.

Kael instinctively formed a barrier around them to prevent anyone from getting injured, and he saved everyone from the first attack.

But soon, a second assault came, and then a third. The number of dragons was starting to increase as well, and most of them looked sick.

Their leader was a dragon...no, to call that thing a dragon would be a disservice to dragons. It was just a mass of corruption that had taken a dragon’s form. And it was starting to corrupt the other creatures as well.

"Tsk, we need to make sure those dragons are not able to break our barrier and get inside. Everyone, do what you can to protect the barrier and make sure it holds, alright?"

Kael ordered, and the remaining three nodded.

Leon and Iris took the front while Kael and Elena took the defensive positions.

The dragons attacked, only to be met by Kael’s barrier. And once they were close enough, Elena made sure her resurrected bone dragon grabbed onto them and kept them down.

Iris and Leon also made sure the dragons were brought down without hurting them too much in the process. They did not want to anger them any more than they already were.

Slowly, their side began to see a shift in the number of dragons, and the decrease started to matter.

But then the corruption let out a roar, and the dragons immediately started to form up for an all-out attack. Their huge bodies collided with Kael’s barrier, and he flinched as he struggled to keep it intact.

"I don’t think I will be able to take another attack like this. Lyra, are you close to finishing?"

Kael asked and turned to look at Lyra. But she had her eyes closed, not paying attention to anything but the task at hand. She was going to make sure the dragon emperor’s authority was transferred at all costs.

Kael knew how stubborn Lyra was and how much was riding on the fact that she was willing to help. So he decided not to call out to her again and instead focused on the task at hand.

"Everyone, let’s focus on providing Lyra with the best defense we can at the moment. We cannot let her feel like she has to do everything, right?"

Kael asked and got enthusiastic nods from the others. And thus, the fight began anew.

"This heat...it hurts. Where are we?"

The female dragon questioned as she looked around the volcano she had ended up near. Breathing was a little difficult right now, but it was not impossible. It made her realize that she could sense a huge energy source nearby.

"This must be the place where the dragon emperor’s authority is stored. Can you feel the energy source?"

Lyra asked her as she followed after the female dragon.

The female dragon hesitated but nodded and gestured toward the only solid ground that remained in this space.

"I can sense something there. But it feels...weird. Should we go and check it out?"

She asked, and Lyra nodded before they headed toward the safe ground.

But the ground started to shake as soon as they landed, indicating that something was wrong with this place.

"What is going on? I cannot control my body."

The female dragon complained as she felt unsteady, and Lyra let out a sigh.

"This must be your trial. You need to get to the core and consume it before you can inherit its authority. I won’t be able to help you with this. But if you truly have the will to help your brother and the dragons, you should be able to power through it."

Lyra told the female dragon, which made her grit her teeth. But she refused to give in, and she kept walking forward slowly until her body was able to withstand the pressure.

The female dragon reached the center before she opened her mouth and swallowed the core that was in front of her.

"I did it-"

Searing pain took over her body, and she tried to control herself, only to feel herself losing control. It was far too much for her to handle, and she started to doubt everything.

"What is going on...?"

She asked, not realizing that she was the one in danger. The energy she had swallowed was consuming her from the inside. If she did not find a way to control it soon, then it would end up burning her alive...

"I won’t allow it. The fate of my family is on my shoulders. I will endure it all and emerge victorious."

And then began a battle of wills between the female dragon and the core she had swallowed. Only one would emerge victorious and determine what would happen next.

The core tried to make the female dragon forget what she was fighting for, but she refused to do so.

"I will...not give up...ever...! This time...I will emerge victorious"
