Raising Yanderes to save the world

Chapter 253: Ch 252: Holding the Dragons Back

"Darn it! These other bastards are in the way. Is there any way to get them out of here before we can get to the real problem?"

Iris questioned as she clashed with another fodder dragon. The ones in the middle were stopping her from getting to the fake dragon.

She was trying to clear the way for Leon, but he was facing the same problem as her—running into the other dragons that were not their target.

"We likely won’t be able to do much until we take down the main dragon. Stop thinking about useless things and focus your attacks on the group in front of us. The sooner we take them down, the sooner we will be able to deal with the one controlling them as well."

Leon stressed as he threw another dragon’s huge body toward its comrades. He was faster than the dragons, and his attacks distracted them, preventing them from dodging in time.

The dragons scattered around, not knowing what to do against him. But they could not go against their current leader’s orders either.

As they were fighting, Kael’s barrier began to falter, and they turned to look back, only to see that Kael was starting to pant heavily.

"Kael, are you-"

"Don’t pay attention to me. We need to deal with the dragons first. I will find a way to keep this barrier up. So don’t worry about me and keep fighting."

Kael reassured them as he re-strengthened his barrier and made it shine brightly. He was shaking but still making sure that the barrier remained intact.

But Iris was too worried to continue fighting.

"You don’t have to push yourself-"

"I am not, and you don’t need to keep looking over here. Please, focus on the enemy in front of you."

Kael warned her, and Leon saved her from an incoming attack before scoffing at her.

"Stop looking at Kael. Even he told you to stop looking. Do you want to lose your life to these monsters?"

Leon asked, and Iris finally shook her head, her expression becoming determined.

"No! I do not want to lose my life. I will pull myself together."

The fighting started once more, and this time, Iris was at the center of it all. She was going to make sure she protected Kael at all costs.

The world magic suddenly reminded Kael that Iris was close to achieving her goal, and he poured more and more magic into his barrier.

But the more magic he used, the more vulnerable he felt to the corruption that had started to rise around him.

It was circling his limbs, trying to drain him from the inside. And Kael could currently either maintain his barrier or combat the corruption.

’Darn it! I should protect myself from this corruption. But I feel so helpless...’

Weirdly enough, the corruption was not doing anything to him. It was not even sucking the energy out of him to use against him.

It was like a curious being, trying to see what Kael was made of and what he was doing.

’It’s like a kid that has just seen a new toy. Maybe I can take advantage of this-!’

That thought was as foolish as it was tempting. Corruption was not something Kael should be thinking about playing with.

But what if he could learn how to control it? Would he be able to contain it?

/That’s an amusing thought. But can you handle it?/

A soft voice barely whispered into Kael’s ears, and it made him shiver. He almost broke his concentration and let the barrier drop before he was able to regain his composure.

This was not the first time the corruption had spoken to him. But it was the first time something like this had happened. It felt both terrifying and exciting at the same time.

Kael did not answer the corruption, but that was mainly because he did not want to get distracted from the task at hand. But once he was free, he could try to understand what he was dealing with...

’I truly am an idiot. All horror stories start with curiosity. Am I looking to die?’

He was not, but that did not mean he was not going to satisfy his curiosity when he had the means to.

/Are you not afraid of me? This does not seem to be the first time you have encountered a fragment of me. In that case, I shall contact you again once we have some time. I will look forward to it. For now, I will give you a parting gift. Make good use of it./

The corruption...or whatever that entity was, giggled before it disappeared from Kael’s mind. He was left gasping as he tried to process what had happened. But it was too difficult to do that at the current moment.

The fight was still ongoing, and there seemed to be no sign of the dragons slowing down.

"Leon, Iris, can you both hold on for some time? I don’t think these dragons are going to slow down through normal means. I am going to bind them all so that you have an easier time dealing with their leader."

Kael told the other two, but Leon instantly shot his idea down.

"Are you a suicidal idiot? There is no way your body is going to be able to take the strain that would come with such a delicate spell. It would be better not to try-"

But Kael had already started. The spell he had begun to prepare lit up the ground beneath his feet.

Seeing that Kael was not listening to him made Leon grit his teeth in anger, and he decided that if Kael was not willing to listen, then he was not willing to advise him about this issue either.

"Fine! Do what you want. You are not even going to listen to me anyway, so I might as well save my breath."

Kael wanted to chuckle, but the spell was draining him so quickly that he did not even feel like smiling.
