Voidseed Strike — Active. Unmake a small piece of a target’s existence and instantly reshape it into a weapon of your choosing.

Genesis Ward — Defensive. Erase incoming damage entirely, converting it directly into a temporary shield.

Hollow Cipher — Utility. Perceive what a thing would become if unmade, revealing weaknesses no ordinary read could find.

Almond turned all three over carefully. This was new ground, and he wanted to walk it honestly.

"Voidseed Strike," he said. "Let’s see what building from nothing actually costs."

[Card acquired: Voidseed Strike]

---

The second trial opened onto a place where creation and destruction chased each other in an endless, looping instant, structures rising and collapsing before they finished existing.

[Stage 2: The Paradox Forge]

Half-built constructs lurched at him from every direction, formed and unformed too fast to properly track, and Almond fought them by refusing to treat either state as more real than the other.

[Boss: The Genesis Wraith]

It built itself anew with every strike that should have ended it, and Almond realized, midway through, that trying to out-damage something that fed on its own destruction was never going to work.

So he stopped destroying it, and started feeding on the same cycle it did. Every strike he unmade became raw material instead of simple damage, and the Wraith’s endless rebuilding finally ran out of anything new to rebuild itself into.

[Stage cleared. Choose one card.]

Entropy’s Gift — Passive. Unmaking an enemy’s attack empowers your next fabrication, storing what you erase rather than wasting it.

Null Cipher — Active. Completely erase a targeted object or ability for a short duration.

Paradox Bloom — Utility. Duplicate something by unmaking its own claim to being singular.

"Entropy’s Gift," Almond said. "If I’m going to keep unmaking things, I’d rather not waste a single piece of it."

[Card acquired: Entropy’s Gift]

A soft chime sounded as the looping structures began to fade.

[Mini-Challenge available: The Unwritten Trial. Unmake ten separate objects without reshaping a single one, and simply hold what’s left. Reward: mutate an acquired card.]

Almond found it harder than any fight so far, resisting the urge to immediately rebuild what he tore apart, and understood, passing it, exactly why the cave had bothered asking.

[Trial complete. Choose a card to mutate.]

He chose Voidseed Strike.

[Voidseed Strike → Voidseed Strike Absolute: Unmaking now scales with the target’s own strength, and the raw material recovered can be held indefinitely instead of spent immediately.]

---

The third trial opened onto a vast, silent archive, shelves stretching into a dark that swallowed their own ends, each one holding something that had once existed and now, technically, didn’t.

[Stage 3: The Hollow Archive]

Echoes of erased things drifted between the shelves, and Almond moved through them carefully, Voidseed Strike Absolute humming with the stored weight of everything he’d already chosen not to waste.

[Boss: The Forgotten Truth]

It had been unmade so completely, so long ago, that it no longer remembered what it had been, only that something had been taken from it, and it fought with the blind fury of a wound that had never once been allowed to become anything else.

Almond didn’t unmake it further. He built with what he’d already stored, fabricating a shape out of raw potential and offering it back, not as an attack, but as an answer to a question the Truth had been asking for longer than it could remember.

"Not every ending needs to stay empty," he said.

The fight ended not in violence, but in something quieter, the Forgotten Truth finally settling into a shape it recognized as its own again.

[Stage cleared. Choose one card.]

Voidforge — Active. Fabricate a weapon instantly from stored raw material, any shape you’ve already learned.

Cipher’s Bargain — Utility. Trade a portion of your own essence for a significant burst of unmaking power.

Genesis Ward Absolute — Defensive. Erase and store incoming damage rather than merely blocking it.

"Voidforge," Almond said. "I want to actually build with what I’ve been taking apart."

[Card acquired: Voidforge]

---

The fourth trial opened onto a place stretched taut at every seam, reality itself groaning under a pressure that seemed to be testing exactly how much it could lose before it stopped being anything at all.

[Stage 4: The Breaking Point]

He fought through it with Voidforge finally answering his hand properly, weapons rising from stored potential exactly when he needed them and dissolving the instant their purpose ended.

[Boss: The Unmaker’s Echo]

It unmade indiscriminately, and Almond met it by simply being better at the one thing it did without thinking at all, deliberate where it was reckless, patient where it only ever destroyed.

[Stage cleared. Choose one card.]

Absolute Unmaking — Active. Permanently erase a significant portion of an enemy’s power for the remainder of the fight.

Seed of Creation — Passive. Everything you unmake now feeds a growing, permanent reservoir of raw creative potential.

Paradox Strike — Active. Create and destroy in a single motion, striking twice at once.

"Seed of Creation," Almond said. "Let it grow instead of just filling and emptying."

[Card acquired: Seed of Creation]

---

The fifth and final trial opened onto a single point of absolute stillness, no light, no dark, simply the place every unmaking in this whole cave had ultimately been pointing toward.

[Stage 5: The First Nothing]

[Boss: The Genesis Sovereign]

It was not a creature so much as the original question given enough shape to finally ask itself out loud. What is left, once everything is unmade, and what does a person choose to build from that?

It struck by simply erasing pieces of the fight itself, footing, sound, the certainty that Almond’s own next breath would arrive on schedule, and he met it the only way this whole cave had taught him to meet anything.

He didn’t fight to destroy it. He fought to build something worth the cost of what it kept taking.

Seed of Creation’s reservoir, filled through four hard trials, finally answered in full, and Voidforge shaped it into something that had never existed before this exact moment, born entirely from everything Almond had chosen not to waste.

The Genesis Sovereign met that creation, and for the first time all cave, found something it couldn’t simply unmake back into nothing.

[Final stage cleared. Choose your signature card.]

Voidseed Genesis — Ultimate deck signature. Unmake anything, instantly reshape it into whatever is needed, no limit, fueled entirely by the reservoir already built.

Absolute Entropy — Passive. Permanent, unlimited unmaking, no cost, no reservoir required.

The Final Bloom — Transformation. Temporarily become pure potential, able to reshape anything nearby on a whim.

Almond looked at the three, and thought about a deck he’d carried for a year without ever once understanding what it actually wanted to become.

"Voidseed Genesis," he said. "Let it finally answer its own question."

[Card acquired: Voidseed Genesis]

[Deck complete: Voidseed Genesis]

1. Voidseed Strike Absolute — unmakes and reshapes, scaling with the target’s own strength.

2. Entropy’s Gift — stores everything unmade instead of wasting it.

3. Voidforge — fabricates a weapon instantly from stored raw material.

4. Seed of Creation — builds a permanent, growing reservoir of creative potential.

5. Voidseed Genesis — unmake anything, remake it into whatever is needed, no limit.

The grey room reassembled itself, quiet and still, and Almond stood there a long moment, five new cards settling into a deck built from a question he’d finally let himself finish asking.

"Genesis," he said softly, testing the word the way he once tested a newly fabricated blade before trusting it near a real fight. "Yes. That’s what it was always waiting to become."

The stone arch opened behind him, and he stepped back out to find the others, already turning over exactly how he planned to explain that his second deck didn’t read the truth of anything anymore.

It simply decided what the truth was going to be next.
