Re-Awakening: I Ascend with a Legendary class
Chapter 787: Oathbreak WraithThe dark took Lily the same quiet way it always did, and when it let her see again, she stood once more in the small grey room, four tiles glowing where five had once hung.
[Choose one deck to rebuild. This process cannot be reversed.]
Dreadlings. Dreadgate. Nightweave. Dread Sovereign.
She read them over slowly, without the urgency her first rebuild had carried. No fresh loss was pushing her toward an answer this time. This time the choice was about what she’d never actually finished understanding, even after a year of carrying it.
Her eyes settled on Nightweave, and she thought of every copy of herself she’d ever thrown at an enemy, close enough to her own shape to fool an eye but never quite close enough to mean anything.
"Copies were never the point," she said slowly, working the thought out loud. "I was always trying to ask a bigger question and settling for a smaller trick."
"Nightweave," she said, and touched the tile.
[Nightweave: erased.]
The tile crumbled to grey dust, and Lily felt the small, strange absence of every illusion she’d ever cast, gone now on purpose, for the sake of the real question underneath them.
"What actually happens," she said to the settling dust, "when something stops being able to say who it is."
---
[Choose a prefix.]
Oath— / Forsworn— / Hollow— / Nameless— / Unclaimed—
She read each one carefully. Nightweave had only ever copied her shape. It had never once touched what actually made her hers.
She chose Oath—.
[Choose a suffix.]
—break / —bind / —mark / —wraith / —claim
Break, she thought. Not a copy of a name. The actual, permanent severing of one.
She chose —break.
[Enter one word of your own.]
The blank space opened, and Lily thought of every enemy who had ever fought her certain of exactly who and what they were, and how much of their strength had quietly depended on that certainty without any of them ever noticing.
She wrote: Wraith.
[Deck seed accepted: Oathbreak + Wraith]
[Entering first trial.]
---
The grey room dissolved into a vale thick with drifting, half-formed shapes, things that had clearly once been someone and had long since stopped being able to say who.
[Stage 1: The Unclaimed Vale]
Nameless wisps drifted toward her, hungry in a way that had nothing to do with hunger for flesh, and Lily fought them with nothing but her whip and old instinct, since the deck built to answer this exact question no longer existed yet to help her.
[Boss: The Unclaimed]
It had lost its own name so long ago that it had made a habit of taking others’, reaching for her own identity the moment she came close enough to matter, a cold, grasping pull at the very edges of who she was.
She didn’t fight the pull directly. She read it instead, the way she read everything, and found, underneath the hunger, the actual mechanism it used to take a name in the first place.
She turned that same mechanism back on it, and for the first time all cave, felt what it actually meant to strip a name away rather than simply borrow one.
The Unclaimed came apart into the same nameless drift it had spent its whole existence trying to escape.
[Stage cleared. Choose one card.]
Oathbreak Strike — Active. A blow that severs a target’s self-recognition for a short time, causing their own abilities to misfire or fail entirely.
Wraithmark — Utility. Mark a target as nameless; their own allies’ support and buffs no longer recognize them as a valid target.
Hollow Guise — Defensive. Become nameless yourself, briefly untouchable by anything that requires identifying a target first.
Lily turned all three over carefully. This was new ground, and she wanted to walk it honestly.
"Oathbreak Strike," she said. "Let’s see what it actually costs something to forget itself."
[Card acquired: Oathbreak Strike]
---
The second trial opened onto a ruined court, broken thrones and shattered oaths carved into every standing wall, a place built for promises that had all, eventually, failed.
[Stage 2: The Court of Forsworn Vows]
Ghosts of broken promises rose from the ruined stone, each one weaker than the last, and Lily understood, fighting them, that every one of them had once been something whole before its own vow finally broke it apart.
[Boss: The Oathkeeper’s Ghost]
It fought with the accumulated weight of every promise it had ever kept, layer after layer of identity stacked on top of itself, and Oathbreak Strike alone barely scratched the surface of something built that deep.
So she stopped striking once, and started stacking her own effect instead, each successful severance weakening a little more of what the layers beneath it depended on, until the whole accumulated weight finally had nothing solid left to stand on.
[Stage cleared. Choose one card.]
Severed Self — Passive. Each successful identity-severance stacks, weakening a target further the more of itself it loses.
Wraithbind — Active. Temporarily bind a target’s sense of self to another nearby target, causing their own instincts to misfire toward the wrong enemy.
Unclaimed Ward — Defensive. Punish anything that tries to identify or target you directly.
"Severed Self," Lily said. "If I’m taking this from someone, I want it to actually add up."
[Card acquired: Severed Self]
A soft chime sounded as the ruined court began to fade.
[Mini-Challenge available: The Forsworn Trial. Sever your own name from yourself for sixty full seconds and remain functional regardless. Reward: mutate an acquired card.]
It was, without question, the hardest sixty seconds of the entire cave. Existing without a name to hold onto felt like standing in open water with nothing solid underfoot, and Lily passed it only by refusing to let the feeling become fear.
[Trial complete. Choose a card to mutate.]
She chose Oathbreak Strike.
[Oathbreak Strike → Oathbreak Strike Absolute: Severance now lingers instead of fading quickly, and each strike can be layered onto the same target without limit.]
---
The third trial opened onto a vault sealed floor to ceiling in locks that had nothing left inside them worth stealing, every door already emptied of whatever it once protected.
[Stage 3: The Nameless Vault]
Echoes of things once valuable drifted between the empty locks, and Lily moved through them with Oathbreak Strike Absolute already layering weakness onto everything she touched.
[Boss: The Self-Erased King]
He had erased his own name once, long ago, to escape a curse that no longer existed, and had simply never found his way back to being anyone at all, trapped in the exact nothing he’d once thought was an escape.
Lily didn’t finish erasing him further. She reached into the weakened layers Severed Self had already stripped away and took a fragment for herself instead, the first time all cave she’d tried keeping any part of what she took.
It settled into her like borrowed weight, heavier and stranger than she expected, and the King, missing one more piece of a self he’d already lost most of, finally had nothing left to fight her with at all.
[Stage cleared. Choose one card.]
Facewound — Active. Damage that scales with how much of a target’s identity has already been severed.
Wraithclaim — Active. Steal a fragment of a severed identity for yourself, storing it rather than discarding it.
Voiceless Ward — Defensive. A shroud that punishes anything trying to speak your name aloud.
"Wraithclaim," Lily said. "If I’m taking something this personal, I’d rather not waste it."
[Card acquired: Wraithclaim]
---
The fourth trial opened onto a place where names themselves seemed to be actively breaking apart, syllables drifting loose from whatever they’d once belonged to.
[Stage 4: The Breaking Name]
She fought through it with Wraithclaim finally giving her something to spend, each stolen fragment settling into a reserve she hadn’t known she was building until it was already substantial.
[Boss: The Hollow Herald]
It announced names it no longer had any right to, borrowing identity after identity in a desperate attempt to be someone, anyone, and Lily met it by simply refusing to let it keep any of what it stole.
[Stage cleared. Choose one card.]
Absolute Severance — Active. Fully erase a target’s identity for an extended duration, the deepest debuff this deck can offer.
Legacy Claimed — Passive. Every fragment you’ve claimed can now be spent to empower any deck you carry, not just this one.
Wraithbound Veil — Utility. Wrap yourself in claimed fragments, borrowing pieces of what you’ve taken to briefly become harder to define at all.
"Legacy Claimed," Lily said. "Let everything I’ve taken actually mean something, everywhere I fight."
[Card acquired: Legacy Claimed]
---
The fifth and final trial opened onto a single quiet point where no name had ever once been spoken, not out of loss, but because nothing there had ever needed one.
[Stage 5: The First Nameless]
[Boss: The Original Wraith]
It was not a creature that had lost itself. It was the very first thing that had ever existed without needing a name to prove it was real, and fighting it felt less like a battle and more like finally asking the question this whole cave had been circling since the first vale.
Did a person need a name at all, to still be entirely, undeniably themselves?
It struck by simply refusing to be pinned down, no identity for Oathbreak Strike to sever, nothing for Wraithclaim to steal, and Lily understood, meeting it, that this final trial wasn’t asking her to take anything from it at all.
It was asking whether she could still be Lily, completely, without a single trick left to lean on.
She fought it with nothing but her own whip and her own hands, no severance, no claimed fragments, simply herself, and found, for the first time in longer than she could remember, that it was entirely enough.
The Original Wraith met that certainty, and had no name of its own patient enough to outlast it.
[Final stage cleared. Choose your signature card.]
Oathbreak Wraith — Ultimate deck signature. Fully sever a target’s identity across everything they carry, abilities, allies, even their own instincts, scaling with every fragment already claimed.
Absolute Facelessness — Passive. Become permanently unidentifiable to any hostile targeting effect.
The Last Name — Transformation. Temporarily claim every severed fragment at once, becoming, briefly, everything you’ve ever taken.
Lily looked at the three, and thought of a deck that had spent a year copying her shape without ever once asking what that shape actually meant.
"Oathbreak Wraith," she said. "Let it finally ask the real question instead of the easy one."
[Card acquired: Oathbreak Wraith]
[Deck complete: Oathbreak Wraith]
1. Oathbreak Strike Absolute — severance lingers and layers without limit.
2. Severed Self — stacking weakness with every successful severance.
3. Wraithclaim — steal and store a fragment of what’s severed.
4. Legacy Claimed — claimed fragments empower any deck you carry.
5. Oathbreak Wraith — total identity severance, scaling with everything claimed.
The grey room reassembled itself, quiet and still, and Lily stood there a long moment, five new cards settling into a deck built from a question she’d finally let herself finish asking.
"Wraith," she said softly, testing the word the way she once tested silence itself before trusting it in a real fight. "Yes. That’s what it was always circling."
The stone arch opened behind her, and she stepped back out to find the others, already certain of exactly one thing this whole cave had taught her twice now.
Whatever she took from someone else, she never once had to lose herself to keep it.
