Eldrin stepped forward.

The courtyard fell silent.

He did not move with calm dignity.

He did not glide like a seasoned priest.

He practically skipped onto the platform, robes fluttering, eyes sparkling, vibrating with divine caffeinated energy.

Mira squeezed my hand. Elias stood tall beside me, trying to look brave.

Eldrin bowed his head...dramatically, almost hitting the floor.

"YOUR MAJESTY," he said, voice already cracking, "you stand before your people, before the flame, before the ancient magic that binds our world....our worlds!"

The crowd leaned in.

My heart hammered.

"Oh crap," I whispered.

Charlie nudged me gently. Riley smirked. Nate looked like he might laugh. Until I gave him a whithering look

Reia's eyes glowed with stars. Lucas stood steady behind me, and I tried not to think about him, but last nights dream made it very hard not to.

Eldrin lifted his hands.

"By sacred rite," he continued, "we gather to witness the crowning of the chosen! The bearer of divine law! The Daughter of Hestia! The protector of our worlds!"

Mira gasped loudly. Elias elbowed her again.

"Quiet Mira!"

Eldrin beamed at them...a huge, proud, emotional smile...then turned back to me.

"You come to this place not by birthright," he said, voice thick with emotion, "but by DESTINY. Not by choice, but by PURPOSE."

My throat tightened.

I wasn't ready.

Mira's tiny hand in mine helped.

Eldrin raised his hands higher.

His sleeves fell back.

His bracelets jingled.

His entire body vibrated.

"LET THE CROWN BE BROUGHT FORTH!" he shouted.

A young priest stepped forward from the line of attendants.

With steady hands and a face trying very hard not to show how nervous he was.

He carried the crown with reverence, both palms supporting the silver circlet as if it were made of living magic. His posture was straight, his expression solemn, but his eyes betrayed the awe of witnessing a Goddess's daughter crowned.

He stopped before Eldrin and bowed deeply.

"Th...The crown sir," he said, voice breaking slightly.

Eldrin gasped, delighted. "YES, THANK YOU!"

The young man offered the crown upward, arms steady despite the weight of the moment.

Eldrin took it with trembling hands, robes fluttering from sheer excitement.

The young priest stepped back, bowing again, eyes shining with reverence.

Eldrin presented the crown...silver, delicate, shaped like branching ice, with trembling hands.

He held it like it was the most sacred thing in existence.

He turned to me.

"Zora," he said, voice suddenly soft, reverent, "Knell."

My breath caught.

Mira squeezed my hand. And let go as I stepped forward toward the kneeling stool.

Elias and Mira taking a step back toward Kathrine.

I swallowed hard.

And I knelt, the cushion soft on my knees.

The crowd exhaled as one.

Eldrin lifted the crown.

The sunlight caught on the silver. Casting shining rays of light, that looked like glacial ice

The air held its breath.

And everything...everything...went silent.

"Do you zora daughter of Hestia bearer of her devine lineage, do so swear to do all in your power to be just?" he entoned.

I took a steadying breath. "I so swear.."

"To protect the weak?"

"I so swear..." I began to feel a warmth building in me.

"To safeguard your peoples from all threats?"

"I so swear..." I felt her presence.

"And to uphold the values, laws, and honor your mother in all things."

"I do so swear."

"Then by the sacred right bestowed upon me by the hearth mothers benevolence, I do so now crown the...Zora Hart the First, and by sacred cree name you Queen of Solaire and protector of Elyndor... and Earth.

The crown touched my head.

Instantly a pillar frost burst upward in blue‑white light. Into the sky like a beacon.

The courtyard gasped.

And then—

Something else ignited.

Something warm.

Something golden.

Charlie.

She didn't even notice at first.

But the moment my frost surged , a soft golden radiance bloomed around her...gentle, warm, like sunlight breaking through clouds. It wasn't loud or explosive. It was steady. Comforting. Divine.

Reia whispered, "Charlie... you're glowing!"

Riley blinked. "Like... actually glowing!"

Alexa's ears shot straight up. Halden's tail puffed.

Charlie looked down at her hands, confused. "I...what? I'm not—"

But she was.

Golden light flowed from her fingertips, tracing soft arcs through the air. It wrapped around her like a halo, illuminating her healer's robes, making her hair shimmer like spun sunlight.

It wasn't chaotic.

It was... beautiful.

Warm where mine was cold.

Gentle where mine was sharp.

Warm sunlight to my winter frost.

Eldrin nearly fainted.

"THE SISTERS DIVINITY AWAKENS!" he cried, voice cracking. "THE FLAME RECOGNIZES HER! THE PROPHECY IS FULFILLED!!!

Charlie's eyes widened. "Wait...what? No, no, I'm just..."

The golden light pulsed softly.

Mira gasped. "Bis sis Zora, and Charlie are so shiny!"

Elias nodded solemnly. "Very shiny."

The frost‑flame around me responded, curling toward her light, intertwining for a moment like two colors of magic greeting each other.

Blue‑white and gold.

Cold and warm.

Frost and flame.

Charlie swallowed. "Zora... what's happening?"

I stared at her, at the girl who had held me through panic, who had steadied me through fear, who had been my anchor since the moment we lost our parents, and everything changed.

"You're glowing," I whispered.

She laughed nervously. "I can see that."

The crowd murmured in awe.

Eldrin was openly crying now. "THE SIGNS! THE OMENS! THE PROPHECIES! THEY ALL...THEY ALL ALIGN!"

Riley grabbed his sleeve before he vibrated off the platform.

The frost settled around my chest.

The golden light settled around Charlie's chest.

The air hummed with magic.

Charlie stepped closer, her golden glow brushing against my frost like a warm hand on a cold cheek.

"I'm right here," she whispered. No longer afraid.

"Me to." I responded grabbing her hand.

The crowd was cheering, when the air changed.

A soft hum.

A shift in pressure.

A warmth that wasn't sunlight.

Reia's eyes widened. "Oh... oh gods."

Riley stepped back. "Something's happening."

Lucas straightened, armor shimmering.

Nate grabbed Charlie's sleeve.

Alexa's ears shot straight up.

Halden's tail puffed like a fox caught in a snowstorm. "I smell something...A-choo!!"

"Divine!!!" Her clone said as she popped into existence.

And then—

Light.

White‑gold flame, swirling into existence above the platform, gentle and impossibly bright.

The flame twisted, curled, and shaped itself into a figure. Radiant. Warm. Like home. Like safety. Like every good memory I'd ever had.

Hestia.

Hair like flowing cosmos .

Eyes soft and impossibly deep. Her gown simple, elegant, woven from living universes.

The Goddess of Creation.

Our mother.

She stepped onto the platform as if the air itself held her up.

The crowd fell silent. Like someone had hit the pause button.

Eldrin made a noise somewhere between a gasp and a squawk...

and then promptly fainted.

Just—

collapsed.

Straight down.

Fortunately Riley caught him by the collar before he hit the ground with his head.

"Called it," she muttered.

Hestia's smile softened when she saw us. "My daughters."

The crowd gasped.

Somewhere in the distance a news camera was recording everything...its operator stunned Into silence by what he and his crew were witnessing.

Charlie froze.

I forgot how to breathe.

Hestia lifted her hand, palm glowing with gentle fire. "Stand before me."

We stepped forward automatically, like her voice tugged at something deep inside us.

She looked us over her face proud, affectionate, amused. "Royalty must needs to look like royalty."

The sky answered her.

Light descended, two pillars, one blue, one gold, crashing down around us with a sound like a heartbeat made of thunder. The pillars wrapped around us, swirling upward, weaving together like living ribbons.

My pillar turned cold, shimmering with frost.

Charlie's turned warm, glowing like sunlight.

Hestia's voice echoed through the courtyard. "You are daughters of my flame. The world will see you as such."

The light thickened.

Shapes formed.

My armor coalesced first an armored skirt of deep ice‑blue plates, layered like frozen silk, edged in crystalline ice that glowed with frost‑flame resonance. Runes curled along the hem, pulsing with my heartbeat.

Charlie's armor formed white plates with warm golden trim, runes glowing in time which her heart. A mirror of mine, but gentle, hers warm where mine was cold.

The pillars intertwined, blue and gold spiraling around us, lifting our hair in the glow.

I didn't notice the change.

Neither did Charlie.

But the crowd did.

My hair lengthened, darkening into spun obsidian, falling to my waist like the night made physical.

Charlie's followed suit, golden, warm, soft, cascading in waves to her waist. As if her hair was made of sunlight and morning dew

Hestia stepped closer, touching both of our foreheads with two fingers, a warmth spreading outwards from her touch

"So warm..."Charlie whispered

"My beautiful girls," she whispered. "The worlds will know you. You will shine. With these marks all will know.

The pillars snapped inward.

The glow vanished.

We stood in full armor, hair transformed, magic humming under our skin. Brows still warm.

Charlie whispered, "Zora... what just happened?"

I whispered, "Our mother happened."

Hestia smiled.

"My daughters," she said, voice warm enough to melt stone.

Charlie's golden glow flared.

My frost‑flame pulsed.

Hestia stepped closer, touching my cheek with a hand that felt like warm starlight. "You carry yourself with courage, Zora. Even when you believe you have none."

My throat tightened.

She turned to Charlie, brushing her hair back gently. "And you shine with compassion, my golden flame."

Charlie's eyes filled with tears. "Mom..." she said cheeks burning hot

Hestia pulled both of us into her arms.

"Woah.." I said caught off guard.

The frost and golden light intertwined, swirling around us like a living ribbon. The crowd watched in stunned silence, reverence rippling through them like a wave.

Mira gasped. "Big sis Zora's MOM is SO PRETTY."

Elias nodded flushed. "Very pretty."

Hestia laughed softly, the sound like bells in warm air. "You have done well, both of you. And there is much still left to do."

She stepped back, looking at the crowd, her presence filling the courtyard without overwhelming it.

"Rejoice," she said, voice echoing gently. "For your queen rises not alone, but with the strength of family, flame, and frost."

The crowd erupted, cheers, cries, applause, awe.

Hestia turned back to me, placing a warm hand over my frost‑flame.

"I should tell you that man you froze, he didn't die." She whispered into my ear, and winked at me.

My mouth fell  open, hot tears melting the frost on my face. " Really..?"I pleaded

"Really," she nodded. "Rule with kindness Zora and burn bright together with Charlie. Never lose that compasionate part of yourselves.

The wave of relief hit me so hard I wobbled on my feet.

Then she touched Charlie's shoulder, golden light blooming under her fingers.

"And heal with love."

And unexpectedly she turned to Riley." Whispering something in her ear. We watched her eyes go wide.

Y...yes ma'am she said quielty.

She turned back to look at us one more time. "Until next time, my daughters."

Her form began to dissolve into soft flame, drifting upward like glowing petals.

And she vanished

Leaving warmth.

Leaving magic.

Leaving us.

Charlie wiped her eyes. "Zora... she's such a cool mom."

I swallowed hard. "Yeah... she is."

Riley nudged Eldrin's unconscious body. "Someone wake him up before he misses everything, well I mean he kinda already did though."

Hestia's warmth still lingered in the air like a soft glow. The frost at my chest pulsed gently. Charlie's golden light dimmed to a warm shimmer.

Everyone stared at us.

Everyone.

Mira held my hand, eyes sparkling.

Elias stood straight, trying to look brave.

Alexa and Halden watched with wide, excited eyes.

Riley, Lucas, Reia, Nate, all of them waited.

Charlie nudged me lightly.

"Go on," she whispered. "You're the queen now."

My stomach flipped.

"Oh right, queen..." I breathed. "Speech."

Charlie smiled. "You've got this."

I stepped forward.

The platform felt enormous.

The crown felt heavy.

The frost felt alive.

The crowd watched, thousands of eyes, thousands of hopes, thousands of breaths held.

I swallowed.

My voice felt stuck.

Then Mira tugged my gown gently. "Big sis Zora... say something."

Something inside me loosened.

I took a breath.

And spoke.

"My people..."

The word echoed.

The crowd leaned in.

"I... we didn't grow up here," I said, voice trembling but steadying. "We didn't know your customs. We didn't know your magic. We didn't know your world."

The frost pulsed.

"But you welcomed us. You trusted us. You believed in me before I believed in myself."

Charlie's golden glow warmed the air.

"And today... you saw my mother. You saw Charlie," I gestured to her. "my sisters light. You saw the frost awaken. You saw the truth of who we are."

I lifted my chin.

"I promise you this...I will protect you. I will learn. I will grow. I will fight for you. And I will never rule from fear."

The crowd murmured, the soft, emotional, hopeful.

"I will rule with kindness," I said, remembering Hestia's words. "With compassion. With courage. And with the strength of the flame that binds us all!!!

Then the entire courtyard erupted... applause, cries, joy, hope rippling through the air like a wave.

Mira hugged my leg. "You did it!"

Elias nodded proudly. "Very queenly."

Charlie squeezed my hand. "Told you."

Riley smirked. "Not bad."

Lucas bowed his head. "Your Majesty."

Reia smiled softly. "You two look so different now, and the.."

Riley burst through her words like she'd been launched from a cannon.

"OH. MY. GODS...look at you two." She said with a massive grin, and way to much excitement.

Charlie jumped. "What...what happened...what's wrong..."

Riley grabbed her shoulders. "Your HAIR, Charlie. It's GOLD. Like actual sunbeams."

Charlie's mouth fell open. "I...what..."

"Also your shorter Charlie..." she said smugly.

"Wha..."she hissed.

I spotted it instantly, Charlie standing there, ears slightly lowered, shoulders tense, trying so hard not to believe the fact that she was... well...

Shorter.

My grin spread slow and wicked.

"Ohhhhhh," I purred, stepping right up to Charlie and lining our heads up with exaggerated precision. "Look at that. Look at that. We're the same height now."

Charlie groaned. "Zora, please don't—"

"Oh, I'm absolutely going to." I leaned in, eyes sparkling. "Charlie, my beloved sister, my dearest companion in chaos... you're tiny."

"I'm not tiny."

"You're my size." I gasped dramatically. "Charlie, you're pocket‑sized. Travel‑friendly. Fun‑sized."

Riley was trying her best to not laugh hysterically.

Charlie covered her face. "Zora, stop."

I didn't. I circled her like a shark. "Do you need help reaching shelves now? Should I get you a little step stool? A booster seat? A commemorative plaque?"

Charlie's ears flushed bright. "Zora—"

I put my hand on her shoulder, solemn and gentle... then ruined it instantly.

"Welcome to the short club," I whispered. "We have jackets."

"Cute ones..." Riley chimed in.

Charlie shoved me lightly. "I hate you."

"You love me," I sang, already skipping away. "Come on, shorty, keep up!"

Charlie sputtered. "We're the same height!"

I turned, walking backwards with a smug grin. "Exactly. And I'm still faster."

Riley followed determined to tell me about my new look as well.

"And...Zora...your hair is BLACK. Not just black. Night black. Like someone dipped your head in the void between stars."

I froze.

Black?

Waist‑length?

I reached back with shaking fingers and felt the heavy, sleek strands. Cold. Smooth. Endless.

Riley wasn't done.

"And your brows...look at me, both of you."

We did.

Riley leaned in, breath catching.

"Zora... you have a crescent moon. Right in the center." She pointed gently between my brows. "It's silver, and glowing."

My heart thudded.

"It's really pretty!" Said Reia with stars in her eyes.

She turned to Charlie.

"And YOU...Charlie...you have a sun. A literal golden sun. Bright as daylight."

Charlie squeaked. "WHAT."

Riley stepped back, hands on her hips, staring like she'd discovered two celestial artifacts. Her smile full of glee at being the one to tell us this bit of information.

"You two look like the night sky and the sunrise decided to become people."

Charlie whispered, "Zora... I need a mirror."

I whispered, "Me too."

Riley grinned. "Oh, you're gonna lose your minds."

The last of the cheers drifted away as people filtered out of the courtyard, still buzzing with excitement, and to prepare for tonight's feast. Apparently there had to be one, and we had to attend.

After a moment an  attendant rushed forward, bowing so low his forehead nearly touched the platform. In his hands was a small polished mirror, trembling like he feared it might explode.

"F‑for the queens," he stammered.

Charlie snatched it before I could react.

"There's only one queen here!!" she squeaked at the attendant

Raising the mirror, she took one look.

A tiny, horrified squeak sounded, as she slapped a hand to her brow like she could hide her entire face.

"Nope. No. No. No. I'm not...Zora, It looks like a...like a SUN."

I grabbed the mirror from her, heart pounding.

My reflection stared back.

Black hair, long as midnight.

A silver crescent moon glowing between my brows.

Eyes brighter than they'd ever been.

I slapped a hand against my brow too.

Charlie hissed, "Hide it, hide it, hide it—"

We both turned our backs to everyone, clutching our heads like it was incriminating evidence.

That's when the elder approached.

He wasn't walking.

He was floating on emotion alone, eyes glassy, tears streaming down his cheeks.

"My queens..." His voice cracked. "Your marks... your hair...so radiant...astonishing..."

Charlie whimpered. "Queens... there's only one queen here, and please don't say radiant."

The elder pressed a hand to his heart. "The moon and the sun. Night and dawn. Two halves of the divine cycle. Sisters born of the Flame."

I swallowed. "Two halves...?"

The elder nodded, trembling. "The crescent moon is the mark of the Night Bearer. The one who shields, who freezes, who stands between danger and the world."

He looked at Charlie next.

"And the golden sun is the mark of the Dawn Bearer. The one who heals, who warms, who restores what darkness breaks."

Charlie's eyes widened. " wait so I gotta clean up Zora s mess?"

I smiled smugly. " hehe, don worry Charlie I won't make too much of a mess."

Charlie gave me the look, her hair beginning to glow brighter.

"Joke Charlie!!! Just a joke!!!" I said fearfully.

"Payback for teasing you runt." she said.

The elder continued cutting us off in his reverence. "You are the Dawn. Zora is the Night. Together, you complete the Flame's cycle. Together, you are balance."

I could feel my heartbeat in the mark on my brow.

Charlie touched hers gently, fingers shaking.

We looked at each other.

The frost at my chest had settled into a soft pulse. Charlie's golden glow dimmed to a warm shimmer. Mira was  still clinging my gown, and Elias refusing to leave our side.

Charlie brushed my shoulder. "You did amazing."

"You to Charlie,"  I said. " I though I was gonna pass out..."

Riley snorted. "You didn't but Eldrin did though.... You... you two were very queenly."

Reia nodded. "Very queenly."

Alexa wagged her tail. "Super queenly."

Halden's tail swished. "Regal."

"What should we do about sir vibrates alot?" This from Riley.

"Let him lay there he need it after almost vibrating the stage apart." Charlie said.

We all laughed at that.

Then reality hit me again.

I stood there, frost‑glowing, crown shining, heart pounding.

A queen.

For real.

For real for real.

Charlie nudged me. "You're okay."

"Yea, just thinking." The present thought now put on hold. "Charlie," I said. "we need training... I talked to Geld last night, he should have prepared a space for us to train..."

I looked around the courtyard, scanning for him. He wasn't hard to spot, tall, armored, composed, already organizing guards and clearing ceremonial equipment with military precision.

He noticed me looking and immediately straightened, bowing deeply.

"Your Majesty."

I flinched. "Please don't call me that."

He blinked. "No your majesty. I mustn't, not after what I've just witnessed."

"Well, so be it," I said, exhaling. "Is it ready?"

Geld stepped closer, expression shifting like we were telling secrets. "Yes my queen, everything is as you asked."

I swallowed tuning to my...family. "Training. All of us. Today. No butts." I said in response to a collective groan. We're not strong enough. We need to be ready for Cross, and I need to learn control before I accidentally break something again."

Charlie raised a hand. "You did do that."

Geld didn't flinch. "We've already set up training for each of you."

"You did?"riley said exited

"Yes." He gestured toward the far archway. "The training grounds have already been prepared. My queen your Instructor is waiting. The arena is cleared."

I stared. "You... were able to set all that up before the coronation?"

Geld gave a small, knowing smile. "I have known Eldrin for many years. His excitement tends to... accelerate events."

Charlie snorted. "He vibrated."

"He fainted," Riley corrected.

"He ascended," Nate whispered.

"He'll be fine," Lucas said.

I took a breath. "Geld... thank you. Then I whispered. " Can you get Eldrin up to the infirmary. We really shouldn't leave him there

He bowed again. "It is my honor my queen."

Thanks Geld

I turned to the group.

"Okay," I said, trying to sound queenly and failing. "Let's go train before the bad guys get here.

"Zora," he said, bowing slightly, "before you begin training, the armory is prepared to outfit you in proper attire, ."

I blinked. "Proper attire?"

Charlie snorted. "He means you can't train in divine  armor."

I looked down at the shimmering frost‑blue armor. "Oh. Right."

Geld continued, after sending to guards to fetch Eldrin "Your training gear is ready. Reinforced, compatible with your magic, enchanted for durability. Our master craftsman Bromir is at the smithy waiting for you.

Riley elbowed me. "Translation... you won't accidentally blow it up."

Nate nodded. "Or freeze it."

Reia added softly, "Or ignite it."

Alexa wagged her tail. "Or tear it."

Halden's tail swished. "Or melt it."

Lucas sighed. "Or all of the above."

I groaned. "Okay, okay, I get it."

Geld didn't smile, but his eyes softened. "After you change, you are to meet with your instructor."

"My instructor?" I asked. "Wait you found me an instructor!?"

He nodded. "Samira the elf."

Charlie perked up. "An elf?"

Geld nodded again. "Yes. Samira of the Silver woods. Magic swordmaster. One of the finest in the kingdom of Solaire. She is waiting for you in the training grounds."

My stomach flipped with excitement. "Okay...cool, I wonder to myself why such a small town had so many fancy things. From queens dresses to master craftsman, even a sword master to train me.

My thoughts however were halted as Geld continued.

"Each of you has been assigned a teacher."

He gestured to Charlie.

"You majesty Charlie...you will train with Graham Rayburn, the healer. He is the most experienced medic in Hilguard. He will meet you at the elders house."

Charlie's golden glow flickered. "Oh... she's the queen not me geld."

"It still stands your majesty." He said reverently

Charlie deflated a little at his words. "Fine..."

He turned to Nate and Reia.

"Nate, Reia... you two will train with the Wizard Guild on the south side of town."

Nate blinked. "The whole guild?"

"They insisted," Geld said. "We do not have necromancers, so wizards will have to do." He said looking at Reia with just a little shudder.

Reia smirked. "I'll make sure he doesn't explode anything."

Nate looked offended. "I haven't exploded things."

Everyone stared at him.

"...often," he added.

Geld turned to Riley.

"Riley...you will train with Lamira Tallon , the only rogue in town, also our resident beastfolk. He's a catkin.. Alexa you will accompany Riley."

Alexa grinned. " another cat person cool."

Riley grinned. "Finally!!"

Alexa pumped her fist. "Alright training time!"

Halden asked. "What about me."

Halden you're with her majesty Zora, you're a swordsman correct.

Yes... I am but I don't use a broadsword.

That's fine," he said. "You should find what you need in the armory."

Geld turned to Lucas grinning.

"Lucas....you will be training with me."

Lucas straightened. "Understood."

Geld's expression hardened. "Your shield work needs refinement. And your resistance must be tested."

Lucas nodded again. "I'm ready."

Finally, Geld looked at me.

"My queen... Halden, Lady Samira awaits."

I swallowed. "Right. Swordmaster Elf, magic. Great."

Charlie nudged me. "You'll be fine."

Riley smirked. "Or you'll die."

Nate whispered, "Probably not."

Reia smiled. "She'll like you."

Alexa wagged her tail. "She's super pretty."

Halden nodded. "And very strong."

"Wait you've met her...?" I asked.

"Yep, she was the one who actually caught us." Halden said a little embarrassed.

Geld stepped aside, gesturing toward the archway leading to the armory and training grounds.

"Your instructors await," he said.

And just like that.

We split up.

Charlie heading toward the healer's hall.

Nate and Reia toward the wizard guild.

Riley, and Alexa toward Lamira's shadowy training yard.

Lucas following Geld toward the  arena.

and Halden bouncing excitedly behind me.

We headed toward the armory.

Toward Samira.

Toward whatever came next.
