Rebirth: Beasts Bound

Azrael gave him a cold smirk and I chuckled and held Thryian.

"We are done right?" I asked and he nodded. I reached out and removed the glove, walking out with my beast-men.

The luggages had already been packed. I was in total shock when I sighted Bibi, she stopped on her track the moment we locked gazes.

"I heard you were leaving!" Bibi said and my eyes brightened. She walked over and gazed at me from head to toe.

"You leveled up," she asked and I nodded. She gasped and ran to me that instant. "I can’t believe it!" she screamed and I jumped with her too.

I could feel my beastmen eye roll behind my back, and a chuckle escaped from my lip.

Just then Elowen burst straight into the room. Her eyes glowed on me and I raised a brow.

"What’s wrong?" I asked and she lifted her finger pointing straight at me.

"You can’t leave the academy!" she yelled and I scoffed.

"What do you want?" I asked, obviously bored, and a smile curved to her lip. "You aren’t Raven!" She said and I sucked in a sharp breath, trying not to give away anything... and as expected she searched my eyes.

"What do you mean?" Bibi asked, her tone already shown she was beyond pissed. "Your accusations are becoming a little too much!"

And she stepped closer. "I know what I’m saying!" Elowen screamed like some maniac and a laugh tore from my lips.

"Did you suddenly become crazy? Where the hell did you actually hear that from?" I asked and she gritted her teeth, stepping closer.

"That explains everything. That’s why you think before you talk, you are smarter, and you don’t punish your beastmen...I thought you became smart overnight, but clearly I was wrong....you are a different person. I don’t know how...but you aren’t Raven," she spat and my breath hitched.

Did she get a hint into something? Did Rosy tell her? My mind spun. I wasn’t even listening anymore and Bibi stepped forward.

"Get out!" She yelled, pointing at the door, and a chuckle escaped from Elowen’s lip. "Raven, you aren’t going to be here forever. Enjoy it while it lasts," she said and walked off giving me a smug look. My heart tightened seeing her walk out. Why do I feel she had the upper hand right now? Should I really leave for the travel? But then Bibi took my hands, snapping me back to reality.

"Ignore everything she said," she mumbled and grunted angrily. "She pissed me off," she said. And seeing the way I still looked dazed, she ran her thumb on my cheeks. I blinked my lashes.

"What’s wrong?" I asked and she sighed. "I don’t care who you are. Be it Raven or not....I like the new you, the new Raven. So don’t take her words to mind...even if you are another soul, I would still look out for you and still be your friend," she said and a smirk curved to my lips.

"I really wasn’t thinking about that," I replied and she gently pinched my cheeks.

I had forgotten my beastmen were here when Elowen came in. They didn’t say a word and just searched my eyes.

"Do you guys believe her words?" I couldn’t help but ask, feeling my hands become sweaty. Did they believe her? If they found out I’m not Raven, would they actually still want me? I thought and sucked down on my bottom lip.

"And?" Ryker asked, confused, and took his seat. "You have nothing to lie about," he said and my eyes relaxed a bit. He still believed I was his Raven.

"We don’t care if you aren’t Raven or not... We fell for your personality. The face is the last thing on our mind," Veyra said and my heavy heart calmed down a bit.

I really don’t think I need to inform them I wasn’t Raven. I wanted to keep that a secret actually.

"Let’s pack! Today has been tiring!" I mumbled and she nodded instantly.

We finished up quick and headed out. The walk to the docks felt long but my beastmen stayed close, carrying most of the bags without complaint. The boat was waiting, bigger than I expected. It had strong wooden sides painted dark blue, with wide sails that flapped softly in the wind. There were ropes everywhere, neat coils on the deck, and a small cabin at the back for resting. It looked sturdy, like it could handle rough waters, with carvings of waves along the rail.

My beastmen helped me up carefully. Thryian held my hand tight while Ryker steadied my back so I didn’t slip. Veyra jumped on first and reached down to pull me the rest of the way. I felt safe with them around me like that. Liora came right behind, her eagle beastman flying low with her luggage strapped tight to his back. He landed smooth on the deck and helped her settle everything without a word.

"Everything good?" I asked her softly. She gave a small nod, eyes bright.

We all got settled as the crew started moving. The boat took off slow at first, then picked up speed. The wind hit my face and I closed my eyes for a second, breathing in the salty air. It felt freeing, like leaving all the heavy stuff behind at the academy. Bibi stood beside me, chatting about what we might see on the trip, and my beastmen spread out but kept me in their sight.

But just as the boat moved farther from the shore, I turned my head back one last time. There she was. Elowen, standing on the edge of the dock, eyes locked straight on me. She wasn’t frowning or yelling this time. She was smiling. An evil, knowing smile that made my stomach twist. It sent chills down my back even from this distance. What was she planning? Why did it feel like she knew more than she let on?

I quickly looked away, heart beating fast, but the image of that smile stayed stuck in my mind as the boat carried us away.
