"You are not helping," I replied, and Cat appeared in front of the railing.
"Do beast-men cheat too?" I asked, and Cat shook her head negatively, "They only stay loyal to those they are contracted to," she replied, and I scoffed.
"Then what am I seeing right now? Is that a play?" I asked sarcastically. I felt hurt, having experienced being cheated on in this life, this didn’t look right. I wiped the tears that fell.
"Go confront him, he’s guilty, that’s all. Don’t let her win," Cat said, but I scoffed.
"Don’t let her win? He shouldn’t be confused about who he wants, Cat," I replied. I wasn’t going to chase him. He’s an adult he should be able him to understand who he cares for.
When suddenly, a panel appeared right in front of me.
[Increase Ryker’s affection level by 30% and get a reward.
Failure: Death.]
Staring at the panel, I couldn’t help but laugh. "Now you are forcing things on me, Cat," I said coldly, and she appeared in front of me.
"Beast-men don’t cheat, Raven. He wouldn’t do that to you," she said, but I had already walked out of the room and was downstairs.
"Ryke—"
I stopped on my words at the scene before me.
Why was she on top of Ryker?
I had just looked away for a second, and it had already escalated to this extent!
Ryker immediately pushed the tribe chief off.
"It’s not what you think. We came here to talk, and she slipped, that’s how she fell on me. Really, you have to believe me," he said, but all I could think of was...
Danny....The sight before me, and how he had pushed me off later leading to my death.
I just turned my back, didn’t say a word, and walked off.
"Say a word, tell her you slipped," Ryker said to the tribe chief, but nothing escaped from her lips except a hiss of pain.
"So much for they don’t cheat," I mumbled, feeling my chest tighten in pain. I felt suffocated, daring not to let any tears slip, I felt vulnerable and sad.
I could hear footsteps behind me, but I didn’t dare turn and walked deeper into the forest. My heart felt so heavy, everything blurred for that second, and I shut my eyes tightly.
"Raven..."
I could hear his voice calling out to me. "Stop, please," he pleaded.
I didn’t realize my power had already malfunctioned, and stones, flowers, even the wind surrounded me like a barrier, blocking anyone from coming in.
"Who would love you?" Danny’s voice echoed, and I crouched down, placing my hands over my ears.
"No one will. You do know that, don’t you? Even with this new face, they wouldn’t love you."
"Raven..."
I heard his distant voice and placed my hand over my chest, gently rubbing it as everything felt suffocating.
"Raven, beast-men don’t cheat," Cat’s voice echoed, but the image flashed in my head.
Their gazes locked on each other, his hands resting on her cheeks... And then finally at her lips...
Why was my mind adding things?
And then their lips touched. "Ahhh..." I let out a soft breath, as I had felt a sharp, painful ache in my heart. I coughed out nothing.
Just then, I felt everything go dark, and I passed out, feeling Ryker’s masculine arms catch me.
"I really would never cheat," he said, and my eyes shut closed.
I could hear faint voices in the background.
"You bastard, don’t do anything stupid... yet..." I heard Veyra say coldly, and Ryker sighed.
"I didn’t mean for this to happen, trust me," he snapped, and Veyra laughed.
"Where were you with the tribe chief? Worse, she was on top of you, Ryker. Do you think Raven will ever trust you anymore?" Thyrian said, clearly, he was also hurt by Ryker’s actions.
"We were out for a tal—"
"And you caressed her cheeks in such a way? Ryker, you can’t fool anyone. I will tell Raven to free you from the contract," Liora said coldly, and Ryker hissed in anger.
"I didn’t ask you to," he snapped at her, but Liora’s eagle beast-man stepped forward.
"You started this. If Raven cancels the contract, you accept it," he said, and Ryker growled. His fangs popped out, but then I placed my hands over my head.
My eyes had opened seconds ago, and I watched them argue and try to maul each other.
"Raven, are you okay?" Liora asked, stepping closer.
Ryker wanted to move, but Azrael’s hand rested on his chest, pushing him backward. "She doesn’t want to see you," he said, and truly, I didn’t.
I know beast-men don’t cheat, but what I saw there couldn’t be unseen.
"Raven..." Ryker called out, asking for help, but my gaze just flickered to the panel floating above his head...
That damned quest: I cursed under my breath and looked away.
"Go out," I said, clearly pissed off.
How can I make someone like me 30% more when his heart or guilt was still focused on his former master?
Ryker was shocked hearing my words. He didn’t argue, seeing I looked stressed and probably tired. He walked out, closing the door shut.
"Beast-men would never cheat," Cat’s voice echoed.
I placed my hands on my head as something seemed to flash through my mind...I could vividly see myself back at the situation I caught them in...
There was a tree twig on the ground that made the tribe chief slip, and there....When I saw the compromising situation, her lips...Yes, she had a small smile tugging on her lips.
Did she do that intentionally? My eyes widened. "Bring Ryker in," I said, and everyone froze.
"But he—"
"No, something isn’t right," I mumbled.
I just realized now...
When he touched her cheeks, the tribe chief’s hands were on his arms. She had used his own hands to touch her cheeks, so she could make me see them and try something diabolical.
"But Raven, h—"
"Trust her," Azrael chimed in. He stared into my eyes, understanding me, and opened the door.
There, I sighted the tribe chief trying to touch Ryker’s shoulder, but he moved backward.
"Raven wants to talk to you," he said, dragging Ryker by the collar, not letting the tribe chief follow them anymore.
Once they arrived at the door, they slowly came in...the tribe chief clenched her fist.
Bingo! I saw it....
