Rebirth: I have Monopoly System

Chapter 251 - 249: I’m Only Here for 3 Things Today

November 28, 2014 was a special day for Kunpeng Games.

Today was the launch day for the PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds closed beta.

After a month of promotion and invitations to numerous streamers, Kunpeng Games was set to release one hundred thousand accounts for the closed beta.

The duration of the beta would depend on player feedback and how quickly bugs were fixed.

Wu Yun arrived early at Kunpeng Games.

"President Wu! Good morning!" The receptionist stood up to greet him, her eyes sparkling as she gazed at the young man rumored to be a billionaire.

Wu Yun gave her a nod before leading Wei Wu into the main office.

He left two receptionists behind, whispering and gesturing excitedly to each other.

Ling Yi, who had just finished assigning the day’s tasks, saw Wu Yun’s early arrival and immediately announced, "Everyone, let’s welcome President Wu to say a few words!"

Wu Yun chuckled. "Don’t be nervous. I’m only here for three things today! Playing the game, watching streams, and chowing down! Alright! You all just stick to the plan and carry on with your work!"

Laughter immediately erupted throughout the office.

Wu Yun turned to Ling Yi. "President Ling, what’s the plan for today?"

Ling Yi glanced at the busy staff in the main office, his voice full of excitement. "I’ve assigned half the team to maintenance and the other half to play the game for promotion."

"They’ll rotate in the afternoon!"

Ling Yi suddenly remembered something. "Oh, right! President Wu, I registered several streaming accounts on different platforms under the company’s name. I also selected a few of our most skilled gamers to be our streamers."

After speaking, Ling Yi pointed to several glass-walled rooms that resembled the private karaoke booths found in malls, except these were much larger.

"Have all the streamers been invited?" Wu Yun asked. After all, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds was a massive battle royale game. While they could use bots to fill the servers, it was far more exciting with all-human players.

Ling Yi smiled. "All taken care of! We invited two to three hundred streamers in total, and we’ve compensated them for their time."

Wu Yun wasn’t concerned with such minor details. "Good. I’ll leave it in your hands."

The two chatted for a little while longer. Seeing that some employees in the main office were already at the game’s login screen, Wu Yun announced, "Let’s set up a private match later! I’m joining in! If any of you can get a chicken dinner over me, I’ll personally give you a one-thousand bonus for that match!"

Everyone grew excited. Even though Wu Yun had completely crushed them last time, they knew that in a game like PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, skill alone wasn’t enough to guarantee a win.

Wu Yun’s own competitive spirit was instantly ignited. ’After all, crushing noobs is one of life’s great pleasures,’ he thought.

’Once everyone masters the game, getting an easy chicken dinner will be next to impossible!’

Soon, Wu Yun was in his office, logging into his personal account: Wushan Cloud Rain.

It’s worth noting that Wu Yun had suggested to Ling Yi and Lu Changsheng that since the game was developed by the people of Huaxia, players should be able to use Chinese characters for their names, rather than being restricted to only English letters and numbers.

The employees streaming on platforms like Douyu, Huya, YY, and B Station also went live successfully.

Due to the number of players, Lu Changsheng set up a private, internal company match, adding 30 bots to fill the empty slots.

Zhao Yang was an artist at Kunpeng Games. Despite being only twenty-five, his superb artistic skills had already earned him a minor reputation in the industry, which was why Kunpeng had poached him with a high salary.

Zhao Yang was also an avid gamer. He didn’t play much League of Legends, but he had a particular passion for shooting games.

He had played every version of Battlefield and Call of Duty many times over.

The last time Wu Yun had come to the office to play, it was Zhao Yang who had dealt him the fatal blow while camping in some bushes—a textbook example of a sneaky player pulling off an upset.

Zhao Yang was very happy with his current job. The game’s main development was finished. Aside from a busy period of post-launch maintenance and updates, his daily task was now to get paid to play games.

Once the game’s closed beta promotion began, Zhao Yang made a special post on his WeChat Moments and Weibo about his current job, making many of his former colleagues and friends extremely envious.

And just then, Zhao Yang snapped a few photos of his work setup and the game screen, posting them to his Moments. "Another day of getting paid to play games with the boss! He said there’s a one thousand bonus if we beat him in a match! I’m gonna try to win a whole month’s salary!~"

In truth, Zhao Yang wasn’t the only one who was excited. The other three employees assigned to stream were just as thrilled. They would be earning a commission from any streaming revenue; after the company’s promotional costs were covered, they would get to keep half of all audience donations.

They had even discussed it privately, fantasizing about what would happen if a whale dropped a huge donation on their stream. They’d be rich!

After a brief loading screen, Zhao Yang’s character appeared on screen in a patch of ruins. He was surrounded by lush green trees, with a narrow road cutting through a field of grass.

This was the classic starting area on the island map.

As soon as Zhao Yang went live, six viewers popped up in the stream interface on his second monitor.

"PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds? What kind of game is this!?"

Zhao Yang’s stream title was "PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds - Little Sun".

Before the match began, Zhao Yang had his character punch a nearby colleague’s avatar—who was wearing shorts and a tank top—a couple of times before addressing his viewers. "Hello everyone, and welcome to the stream! I’m Little Sun, and today we’re playing PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. It’s a battle royale game with a high degree of freedom..."

Listening to Zhao Yang’s explanation, the handful of viewers were instantly intrigued, and they all said they wanted to see him play.

As he expertly guided his character’s parachute, Zhao Yang explained, "We’re playing in solo mode this round. The game has solo, duo, and four-person squad modes."

"You start with no equipment at all. You have to land and quickly get into buildings to loot for gear."

Zhao Yang’s character landed. He sprinted to a small, two-story house in an open field, threw the door open, went inside, and shut it behind him.

He got lucky. Just inside the door, he found a Level 3 Backpack.

Zhao Yang continued to explain, "I just found a Level 3 Backpack. In this game, the higher the level of your vest, helmet, and backpack, the better. There are three levels for each."

"And take note, everyone, the guns you find are barebones—no ammo or attachments. You have to find the right caliber bullets and load the weapon before you can fire!"

As he spoke, he had his character pick up an AK47 from the floor. After quickly loading it, he found and equipped a red dot sight.

Just then, the sound of running footsteps grew louder as they drew closer.

"Someone’s coming! This game is all about sound-whoring to pinpoint enemies. So, if you want to be the last one standing, you don’t just need good aim! You also have to be sneaky as hell!"

"Now, watch how I handle this."

He switched to a first-person perspective and crouched at the top of the stairs, his gun aimed directly at the front door below, waiting for it to open.

"CREAK~"

"RAT-TAT-TAT-TAT-TAT~"

The creak of the door and the roar of gunfire erupted simultaneously. The wooden door was shredded to splinters as a body crumpled to the floor, instantly turning into a loot crate.
