In the large open office, a slightly chubby young man angrily leaped up from his seat.
"Fuck! It’s that damned camper Zhao Yang again!" The chubby young man shook his fist, then sat back down in frustration and started watching the replay.
The employees had played against each other so many times that they were all familiar with each other’s usernames. That’s why the moment the chubby young man saw he was killed by "Little Sun," he instantly started cursing.
After watching the replay, the chubby young man switched his view to spectate Zhao Yang.
With Zhao Yang at the controls, the character on screen was soon fully kitted out with weapons and ammo.
Relying on his cautious, sneaky playstyle, Zhao Yang either ambushed or sniped everyone he encountered, quickly racking up another four kills.
Although the chubby young man was muttering curses, he still greatly admired Zhao Yang’s skill and game sense, continuing to spectate him to study his tactics.
In his office, Wu Yun could clearly feel that this match was getting difficult. After a month of free-for-alls, the employees had all familiarized themselves with the game’s basic controls and mechanics.
So Wu Yun felt that he couldn’t just stomp noobs like he did in the beginning anymore.
Wearing his headset, Wu Yun had his character crouched by a second-floor window, carefully scanning the view outside with a 4x scope.
The final circle was closing in. Wu Yun suddenly spotted someone outside the safe zone sprinting, and they quickly reached the edge.
Wu Yun acted decisively. He raised his Kar98k and fired a single shot, landing a body shot. The opponent instantly turned into a death box.
Wu Yun had just seen the name of the employee he’d killed—Little Cannon—when, before he could react, his own character was turned into a death box by a grenade.
"Little Sun killed Wushan Cloud Rain with a grenade!"
Wu Yun was exasperated. ’It’s this damned camper again!’
He could hear the open office erupting in cheers!
"Zhao Yang! You’re the man!"
"Zhao Yang! That one thousand yuan is in the bag!"
.....
With Wu Yun out of the picture, Zhao Yang getting the chicken dinner was practically a sure thing, unless he had a sudden bout of terrible luck.
Because Ling Yi had played the part of a whale and donated ten "Rockets" to Zhao Yang’s stream, the number of viewers had now surpassed one thousand.
The scrolling comments on the screen began to multiply, with most people asking how to download the game or what it was called.
Since the final circle was closing in, Zhao Yang didn’t have the mental space to manage the comments. He just said, "Guys, I’ll answer your questions in a bit! I need to focus right now. There are five people left! As long as I’m the last one standing, I win!"
Those who had been watching from the beginning were completely captivated by the gameplay of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and were now determined to download the game and give it a try.
"THUD~" The muffled report of a suppressed AWM rang out, and another player was taken out with a headshot.
"Nice! Only three enemies left!"
Zhao Yang’s voice carried through his mic to everyone watching the stream.
Suddenly, a chaotic burst of gunfire erupted behind him, and the kill feed showed another player had been eliminated.
Lying prone in the grass in his ghillie suit, Zhao Yang first switched to the third-person perspective. He used the direction of the recent gunfire to spot a gun barrel moving behind a low wall, then immediately tossed two grenades in quick succession.
The first grenade detonated perfectly above the wall. Before his opponent could react, a second grenade air-bursted, taking out the enemy while they were trying to heal.
"Haha! Guys, victory is in sight! First, let’s see where the circle is shrinking." Zhao Yang’s character remained prone as he panned his camera to observe his surroundings, all while keeping an eye on the movement of the zone.
"How is this last guy even more of a camper than I am!" Zhao Yang grumbled, but he remained calm, patiently surveying the area.
Just then, the zone finished closing, and the white circle on the minimap shifted to reveal the next safe zone.
"Guys! I’m in luck! It’s a god-tier circle!" Zhao Yang shouted excitedly.
He immediately switched to his fully-kitted M4A1, pulled out a smoke grenade, and threw it to the edge of the circle opposite him. As he waited for the smoke to bloom, he scanned for any movement.
Just then, Zhao Yang saw someone just outside the safe zone not far from him. The player got up from the grass, sprinted for cover behind a large tree, and peeked out to look toward the smoke.
"Guys! This one’s in the bag!" With that, Zhao Yang stood up and unloaded a full clip into the enemy’s back.
"Winner winner, chicken dinner!"
"NICE! A thousand yuan in the bag!" Zhao Yang’s triumphant roar echoed in the glass-walled office.
Just then, a viewer asked in the chat, "What’s this about a thousand yuan?"
Since they had been given permission not to hide their identities as game company employees, Zhao Yang answered, "That last match was an internal solo game at our company. Our boss said that whoever gets the chicken dinner wins a one-thousand-yuan prize!"
"Oh! Right! The guy I killed with a grenade just now, Wushan Cloud Rain, that’s our boss!"
"666, aren’t you afraid your boss is going to dock your pay?"
"Damn, you guys are loaded! Who’s your boss?"
...
Watching the comments flood in, Zhao Yang smiled and brought up a meme that had just gotten popular the day before. "You might have heard of it. It’s about ’President Wu’s humble contribution.’"
When some viewers expressed their confusion, Zhao Yang quickly explained the meme.
"Alright! Let’s talk about this game!" Seeing the chat was getting sidetracked, Zhao Yang quickly brought the topic back on course.
"This game, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, is a battle royale PC game developed by our company. The gameplay is very diverse! If you want to get a chicken dinner, luck, skill, and game sense are all very important."
A viewer asked, "How can we download it?"
Zhao Yang first glanced at a message in the company group chat telling everyone to start the next match, so he clicked to start a new game.
Then he said, "PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is currently in closed beta. However, for promotional purposes, the company is releasing one hundred thousand closed beta accounts. I personally have the ability to grant 1,000 of those accounts, and I’m planning on doing a giveaway in a little bit!"
Before the words were even out of his mouth, a "Rocket" donation lit up his stream.
"’Foot-Picking Dude’ has donated 1 Rocket!"
"Hook me up with an account!"
Zhao Yang wasn’t a professional streamer, after all. He never expected to make 125 yuan from a single sentence and stammered, "Bro, hang on! As soon as this match is over, I’ll get you set up!"
No sooner had he said that than several more people donated Rockets.
Watching his viewer count climb, Zhao Yang said, "To the guys who just donated, please DM me your phone numbers. I’ll get your accounts registered right after this match!"
"You can download the game from our company’s official website. I’ve already put the URL in the stream title."
The chat descended into chaos, with some people trying to freeload an account and others demanding he start the giveaway immediately.
Zhao Yang chuckled. "Everybody, calm down! After this match, I’ll immediately set up a raffle for twenty lucky viewers."
"Oh, right! For those of you who win, remember to log in and try the game as soon as possible. If our system detects that an account hasn’t been logged into, it will be revoked after one week!"
"Also, there are rewards for finding and submitting bug reports on the official website!"
