Rebirth: I have Monopoly System

Chapter 273 - 269: Floating Life Raft

"Sizzle~"

Fish oil dripped onto the charcoal in the grill, making a sizzling sound as a fragrant aroma wafted across the entire deck.

Wu Yun leaned back on a sofa on the top deck, watching a sailor skillfully brush seasoning onto the fish.

He had only eaten a piece of bread in the morning, and with sea fishing being a physically demanding sport, Wu Yun was famished.

The people around him looked much the same as Wu Yun, all of them swallowing hard as their mouths watered.

After a short wait, the group heard a heavenly sound.

"It’s ready!"

The sailor placed the golden-brown grilled fish on a large platter. He skillfully cut it into a dozen or so even portions with a small knife, then used tongs to serve a piece to everyone seated. Afterward, he put another fish on the grill.

There wasn’t nearly enough to go around; one fish was far from sufficient. Wu Yun quickly devoured the grilled fish in his bowl.

The crispy-on-the-outside, tender-on-the-inside flavor left Wu Yun wanting more. To make matters worse, after eating the small piece of fish, Wu Yun felt even hungrier.

"Xiaoyunzi! Open wide!" Qi Fei brought a piece of fish to Wu Yun’s lips with her chopsticks. Knowing her personality, Wu Yun didn’t object and ate it right away.

"Jeez! I’m getting stuffed just from your PDA!" Cao Junlong cried out in mock indignation.

Wang Gang also chimed in teasingly, "Young Master Wu! If you keep acting like this, we’re not taking you with us next time we hit the massage parlors!"

Qi Fei’s reaction was just as Wang Gang expected: "Ooh-la-la~~ Xiaoyunzi! Living the good life, aren’t you!"

But her next words left Wang Gang dumbfounded: "You’re not allowed to go see those dirty women! I wouldn’t even care if you found another girlfriend!"

However, Wang Gang and the others just thought Qi Fei was joking and trying to stop Wu Yun from fooling around.

At that moment, the ribs and steak that Qi Fei and the others had brought were cooked on another grill. Amid calls of "ladies first," a sailor carried over a platter and served a piece to each of the girls.

"Look! There’s something in the water!" Zeng Shengnan had just picked up a rib with her hand when she saw an orange object floating about a kilometer away.

Everyone looked in the direction Zeng Shengnan was pointing, and after squinting for a moment, they found the object she was talking about.

The two sailors were veteran seamen. The moment they saw the object, they immediately understood what was going on.

The sailor who had been grilling the ribs put down his platter and sprinted down from the top deck.

"Brother Bin! Someone’s in the water!"

Since Wu Yun and his friends had chartered the yacht, Liao Bin still came up to consult them. He explained the international convention for rescue at sea: they were obligated to help anyone they found in distress.

Soon, the yacht’s engines roared to life. As it sped forward, a biting wind swept across the deck, making everyone shiver involuntarily.

The yacht quickly closed the distance of one or two kilometers.

As they got closer, everyone could see clearly that the orange object was a tent-style inflatable life raft.

The captain skillfully swung the stern around, bringing the yacht’s rear deck right up alongside it.

Two sailors used boat hooks to pull the life raft closer.

The sailor who had been grilling the fish got down and adjusted the life raft’s orientation so its opening faced the yacht.

He was seen slightly opening the tent flap to sniff inside. After detecting no foul odor, he then pulled the tent open completely.

"Quick, come help! There are two foreigners in here! They’re still alive!"

Hearing the shout, the men rushed down in a swarm.

Seeing everyone crowded on the rear deck, Wu Yun said, "You guys in the back, head up first. It’s too crowded here; someone could get pushed overboard!"

So, only Wei Wu and Wang Hao remained.

The four men forcefully dragged the life raft onto the deck. Only then did the sailor who had been grilling fish fully open the tent, revealing the mess inside and two unconscious foreigners.

Leach Berna groggily opened his eyes. When he saw the circle of East Asian faces looking down at him, a wave of relief washed over him.

He wanted to ask about his wife’s condition, but only a hoarse, unintelligible sound came out.

He heard the onlookers shout in the Huaxian language, "Water, get a bottle of water!"

A moment later, Leach felt the long-absent sweetness of water moistening his cracked lips.

His survival instinct made him open his mouth, and he began to drink in small sips.

Replenished by the water, Leach immediately felt some of his strength return, and he struggled to sit up.

Seeing this, someone supported his back and helped him upright.

Only then did Leach see that his wife was also being given some water. Though she was breathing, she was still unconscious, which made him worry.

Leach forced out the words in a raspy voice, "Please save my wife! Please!"

Just then, a young man replied in English, "Don’t worry, your wife isn’t in any immediate danger. She’s just passed out."

Hearing this, Leach instantly relaxed. The joy of surviving his ordeal made tears stream down his face uncontrollably. "Thank God!"

At that moment, someone handed him a soft piece of bread and an opened bottle of mineral water.

Leach took them with trembling hands and began to eat ravenously.

...

"Help them into the salon first!"

Wu Yun and the others cleared a path, helping to carry the now-conscious foreign woman up the steps along with her husband.

With the rescue complete and seeing that Wu Yun and his group had the situation under control, the two sailors washed their hands and returned to the top deck to continue with the barbecue.

At this time, Liao Bin also stepped out of the cockpit. After checking on the condition of the rescued couple, he returned inside.

"Thank you so much for saving our lives!" Leach said, hugging his wife tightly.

A curious Wu Yun asked in fluent English, "What country are you from? How did you end up drifting at sea!?"

Wang Gang and the others looked at Wu Yun in surprise, but Wu Yun paid them no mind.

"This is my wife, Luojia Pettie. We’re both Germans—adventurers, you could say! We were circumnavigating the globe on a sailboat when we unexpectedly hit a storm and ran aground on a reef. Our boat didn’t make it, so we had to grab what we could and escape! We’re so lucky we ran into you; otherwise, the two of us would have probably died at sea."

Wu Yun smiled. "You are indeed very lucky. You’ve drifted all the way into the territorial waters of Huaxia."

Leach and Luojia glanced at each other. Leach said with relief, "I can’t believe we drifted from the Western Pacific to Huaxia in just over ten days. We really are lucky! We didn’t drift out into the depths of the Pacific Ocean."

Wu Yun chatted with them for a few more moments, then said to Wang Hao, "Get them each a set of our spare clothes. And while you’re at it, take them for a shower. The smell is getting pretty bad."

Of course, Wu Yun had said this in the Huaxian language. He had seen their confused looks earlier when his friends were talking and knew the couple didn’t understand it.

"Yes, President Wu!"

Wu Yun nodded and, turning back to Leach with a smile, said, "This is my secretary. You can tell him if you need anything. Go ahead and eat something to get your strength back! We’ll be heading back to Modu, Huaxia, this afternoon. I’ll have someone contact the coast guard, and they’ll take you to your embassy."

"Thank you so much, sir! Could I have your name, please?"

"Wu Yun!"
