Rebirth: I have Monopoly System

Chapter 303 298: Lingering Fear, Posting Another Video

Qi Fei and the other two women stared blankly at the screen of Wu Yun's camera, their hands covering their mouths. It looked like something had been scattered from above the Peace Restaurant. A black tide of people surged below. The commotion erupting on the viewing platform stairs was clearly visible, as was the chaotic scramble beneath the Peace Restaurant.

The people who fell on the stairs were quickly swallowed by the converging crowd. Centered around the staircase, the people were packed shoulder to shoulder.

Qi Fei adjusted the zoom, clearly capturing the desperate, terrified expressions on the faces of the tourists packed together. It was a raw display of human nature, its dark side laid bare.

Qi Fei's voice trembled as she looked at Wu Yun, who was now observing through a pair of binoculars. "Xiaoyunzi! It's really happening! What do we do? What do we do?!"

By the end, her voice was laced with sobs. She was terrified. The camera had just clearly captured a woman falling and being engulfed by the crowd. It was obvious her chances of survival were slim to none.

It was like watching people get killed live from a god's-eye view—lives slipping away right before their eyes, and they were powerless to do anything.

Qi Fei finally understood how Wu Yun felt. If she had been in his shoes, she would have warned everyone to be careful, too.

"Yaoyao! Yaoyao and the others are still out there! Quick, call her!" Song Qin suddenly remembered the social media post Li Yao had made half an hour ago. The color drained from her face as her hands trembled, and she unlocked her phone.

RING... RING...

RING... RING...

RING... RING...

"The number you have dialed..."

Song Qin hung up, her face a mask of despair. "No one's answering! Did something happen to them?"

Staring at the dense, unmoving mass of people on the screen, Song Qin couldn't bring herself to imagine the worst. Instead, she persistently kept redialing Li Yao's number.

"I'll call Peng Dongming! Damn it, didn't he see the video Young Master Wu sent?! Looks like he didn't believe him!" Zeng Shengnan muttered, but her hands moved fast as she quickly dialed Peng Dongming's number.

Seeing the chaos unfold, the three women were overcome with retrospective fear. If Wu Yun hadn't stopped them, they probably wouldn't have fared much better tonight. After all, women were always more vulnerable in situations like this.

"Still no answer!" Tears of anxiety streamed down Song Qin's face.

Zeng Shengnan sighed and hung up. She glanced at Wu Yun, who was bent slightly over the large telescope, before turning to Song Qin and Qi Fei. "Peng Dongming isn't picking up either."

For a moment, a heavy silence fell.

Once they fell silent, the noisy, chaotic sounds from the Bund became clearly audible.

Wu Yun's expression was grim. He frowned and said, "It looks like someone threw something on purpose! That sparked the chaos, and then someone accidentally fell down. Now it's led to even more serious consequences!"

Wu Yun slammed his fist on the railing, letting out a rare curse. "Fuck! Why are these people so damn stubborn? Why won't they listen to a warning?!"

Qi Fei, still reeling from the fear and panic, stared blankly at Wu Yun. "Xiaoyunzi, what do we do?! We can't reach Yaoyao and the others now!"

Wu Yun's face was dark. "Some people just have to learn the hard way. Wait a few minutes. Try calling again once the crowd starts to break up."

The four of them watched in silence as the events unfolded.

Ten minutes later, as the most densely packed part of the crowd was pulled apart, the forms of tourists lying on the ground were revealed.

Wu Yun did a rough count through the telescope. At least fifty people were on the ground, some piled on top of each other.

Fortunately, some of the people on the ground were still moving, but their twisted limbs made it clear they were seriously injured.

Seeing the crowd break up, Song Qin tried calling Li Yao's number again. This time, thankfully, Li Yao answered.

"*Sob...* Qin Qin! I'm so scared! Dongming's hurt!" Li Yao cried, her face a mess of tears as she looked at Peng Dongming's limp arm.

Song Qin asked urgently, "Where is he hurt? How did it happen? Is it serious?"

Li Yao sobbed, "Dongming's left arm... it's broken! It snapped from the pressure of the crowd while he was protecting me! *Sob...*"

"Ah! Are you okay? Are you hurt? We'll come over right now!" Hearing Li Yao's voice, the three women felt a small wave of relief.

Just then, the phone was passed over, and a man's voice came on the line. "Song Qin! Don't worry, Li Yao's fine! Don't come over! It's too crowded and chaotic here!"

"Oh! And please, apologize to President Wu for me. I was arrogant, and I nearly got everyone killed today. A broken arm is the punishment I deserve for not listening to good advice."

After the call ended, Qi Fei and the other two women all breathed a collective sigh of relief.

「Another ten-plus minutes passed, and it was now January 1st.」

"Alright! Nothing more to see!" Seeing that the camera was just showing the cleanup crew, Wu Yun shooed the three women into the living room without turning off the camera.

Wu Yun simply packed up the camera and headed for the study.

"You all should get some rest, too. We can watch the news tomorrow."

Without waiting for a response, he walked into the study.

Qi Fei and the other two women sat on the sofa, exchanging speechless glances.

Telling them to go to sleep now was pointless; they wouldn't be able to. 'Tonight is definitely going to be a sleepless night.'

Wu Yun sank into the soft executive chair, leaning back and closing his eyes tightly. He only opened them again after several minutes.

After importing the footage he'd shot onto his computer, Wu Yun thought for a moment, then took out his phone to record another video.

But on a whim, he decided to check the comments on his previous post, which he hadn't looked at. He found it was already in an uproar.

Orleans_Chicken_Wings: "HOLY SHIT! HOLY SHIT! HOLY SHIT! It really happened!"

My_Fate_Is_My_Own: "People died! A lot of people! My friend is there, he just told me."

Keyboard: "Barely made it out alive! Sigh... Seriously! I'm never going to a crowded event like that again!"

...

Wu Yun just skimmed through them. Unlike the previously polarized comments section, this one was now flooded with people venting their emotions and asking for information.

Wu Yun picked up his phone and started recording himself. "My heart is heavy because of the accident tonight, but I'm also angry. Angry at myself for not being more insistent on stopping people. I witnessed the entire incident from my apartment. Sigh... I won't say much more. There was a trigger for this event. I have video of the whole thing, and I hope the person who was throwing things from the Peace Restaurant will come forward and turn themselves in."

Wu Yun had originally thought the accident was just caused by people accidentally slipping, but he hadn't expected there to be a reason for the slipping in the first place. He felt that whoever was responsible for this moronic behavior deserved to face the full force of the law.

He then edited together the footage, from the very start of the incident to the point where the crowd became a solid mass. He altered the audio and appended this clip to the end of his selfie video.

Once the video was edited, Wu Yun posted it directly to his social media. After the upload was successful, he was surprised to see his follower count had somehow jumped to 3.5 million.

After replying to a few random comments, Wu Yun finally left the study.
