Once inside the car, Liu Yan surveyed the interior and the features in the back seat, then couldn’t help but tease, "Old Qi! Look at Xiaowu’s car! Now look at yours! It’s long past time for an upgrade! Haven’t you been making good money lately? Hurry up and get me a new one! I want to show it off to my friends!"
Qi Guo settled into the spacious rear seat. As the car drove on, he noticed there was barely a jolt even when going over speed bumps, and a look of longing appeared on his face.
But then he remembered the major investment he was about to make and shook his head. "Let’s just forget it. We can talk about it later. We’re going to have an urgent need for that cash soon!"
"Tch! If you’re too cheap to spend the money, just say so! You use that as an excuse every time! Qi Kukou!"
Hearing Liu Yan, Wu Yun suppressed a laugh and quickly fixed his eyes on the street signs outside.
Qi Fei’s grandparents lived in a residential complex in the northern part of the city that had been built a few years ago. The complex was actually a project developed by Qi Guo’s own company.
Whether in his past life or this one, Wu Yun wasn’t very familiar with the northern part of the city. If it weren’t for the GPS, he would have been completely lost.
In Jingyang, property prices in the north were generally higher than in the south. This had always baffled Wu Yun, given that the various public amenities, large shopping malls, and the administrative center were all located in the south.
But now that he was here in the north, Wu Yun discovered it was indeed a bit livelier than the south. After all, the area was mostly residential, and many people who worked or studied out of town had come back home.
A Rolls-Royce was an eye-catching sight anywhere. Following Qi Guo’s directions, Wu Yun pulled right into a private parking spot at the entrance of the residential complex.
Just then, Da Xiong and Hawkeye walked over, their arms laden with gifts. "Boss, here are the five sets of gifts you asked for!"
Hawkeye’s Chinese had become quite fluent. Aside from misusing a few nouns, he had no problem with simple conversations.
Wu Yun nodded. "All right! Just leave them here. You two have the rest of the afternoon off! Go have fun, get a feel for our Huaxian holiday spirit! I’ll call you if I need you."
Hearing this, Da Xiong replied in a thick Sichuan accent, "Thanks, boss!"
He then nudged Hawkeye. "Let’s go, let’s go! I smelled the lamb skewers on the way here. It smelled incredible!"
Watching the two walk off, Wu Yun smiled and said, "Uncle Qi, let’s carry these inside together. I heard from Qi Fei that you have siblings, so I prepared a little something for each family."
"Let’s go! Qi Fei’s grandfather has been looking forward to meeting you!"
Wu Yun then picked up two bottles of Maotai and two boxes of tea and headed into the complex.
...
In a spacious living room, a hale, white-haired old man sat on the sofa, holding a little girl who looked to be two or three years old.
The little girl squirmed playfully, saying in a tiny voice, "Great-grandpa! I wanna get down and play with my little brother!"
The old man dotingly patted the girl’s cheek before carefully setting her down on the floor.
He watched as the little girl ran to the other side of the sofa, where a cute little boy was playing with a toy car. She immediately reached for the toy in the boy’s hand.
"Hey! Qi Ruixi! That’s your little brother’s toy! Don’t snatch!" a curvy young woman nearby said in a stern voice.
Hearing her mother, the little girl froze, her hand hovering over the toy. She pulled her hand back and pouted, looking wronged.
"Oh, Xiaodai! It’s all right. Just let Ruixi play, it’s no big deal!"
A middle-aged woman smiled and said softly to the little boy who was engrossed in his toys, "Guoguo! Give one of your little cars to your big sister, okay?"
The little boy, Guoguo, grinned and handed the toy car from his left hand to Qi Ruixi. "Sister! Car-car!"
"Good boy, Guoguo!"
Qi Chongwu, the hale old man from earlier, frowned. "What’s going on with Qi Guo? He lives so close, how is he not here yet? He has no sense of time at all! And to think he’s the boss of a company!"
The middle-aged woman beside him smiled. "Dad, you can’t blame him. He said he was waiting at his place for Qi Fei to get home with her boyfriend, so he knew he’d be a few minutes late today."
Qi Chongwu’s expression softened slightly. "Hmph. I hear Feifei’s boyfriend is also from Jingyang. I wonder what his family does for a living."
The middle-aged woman ventured a guess, "His family must be well-off, or the young man himself is exceptional. Otherwise, knowing how picky Qi Guo is, he’d be dead set against it. We are talking about his precious daughter, after all!"
"Hehehe! Now that you put it that way, I’m actually a little eager to see what this young man is like!"
DING-DONG!
The curvy young woman who had been watching the children smiled. "That must be our youngest uncle and the others!"
As she spoke, she started toward the door. Qi Ruixi, who had been playing with toy cars by the sofa with Huang Guo, saw her mother walking away, threw down her toy, and ran after her. "Mommy! Where are you going?!"
"Mommy is going to get the door. Your auntie is here! Why don’t you go open the door for her?" Liu Nana said with a smile, bending down to take Qi Ruixi’s hand.
Qi Ruixi excitedly trotted to the door, stood on her tiptoes, and unlatched it.
"Hello there, Ruixi! Aren’t you a big helper!" Liu Yan’s voice rang out.
From the living room, the family heard Qi Ruixi ask in her tiny voice, "Grandaunt! Where’s Auntie?!"
"Ruixi, Auntie’s right here!"
...
After Qi Fei stepped inside carrying the liquor and tea, Wu Yun, who had been standing at the very back, finally came into view.
He was the last to enter the living room. After setting the gifts aside, Wu Yun was introduced to the family members by Liu Nana and Qi Fei.
Hearing the commotion in the living room, the people who had been busy in the kitchen came out to see what was happening.
