"What do you mean Dad has abandoned me?"

A deep, sharp voice cut through the conversation, instantly freezing Clara, Hannah, and Lily in place.

All three turned toward the source.

Standing a few feet away were Dominic and Mark.

While Hannah and Lily visibly stiffened at Dominic’s arrival, Clara’s face lit up as though someone had handed her the happiest surprise of the day.

"Dom!"

Without a second thought, she ran straight toward him.

The cold, unreadable expression Dominic had been wearing softened the moment he saw his wife rushing over.

Then his eyes swept over her appearance.

The oversized chef’s uniform.

The cap.

The apron dusted with flour.

He raised an eyebrow.

"...Should I even ask?"

Clara pouted dramatically.

"You’re late."

Dominic folded his arms.

"I am?"

"Very late."

She sighed exaggeratedly.

"You missed all the fun."

"The fun?"

"Yes!"

She began counting on her fingers.

"I became a waitress..."

"Mhm."

"Then I accidentally became Chef Jaden’s assistant."

"I see."

"Helped make an award-winning cake."

Dominic nodded patiently.

"And then..."

She smiled sheepishly.

"I may have accidentally broken a giant glass display."

Mark nearly choked.

"May have?" he muttered under his breath.

Clara continued as though nothing had happened.

"And after that, Hannah exposed three cheaters."

She clapped happily.

"It was very exciting."

Dominic stared at her for several seconds before asking calmly,

"...Is that all?"

Clara thought about it.

"Oh!"

"I also got threatened."

Dominic’s eyes narrowed.

"You what?"

"Nothing serious."

She waved her hand dismissively.

"It worked out in the end."

Behind them, Lily and Hannah stood rooted to the spot.

Lily leaned closer and whispered,

"Wasn’t Madam panicking earlier because Master was coming?"

Hannah nodded slowly.

"She was."

Lily looked back at Clara, who was now happily chatting with Dominic as though she hadn’t caused absolute chaos less than an hour ago.

"Then..."

She blinked.

"...why is she acting like she’s greeting her favorite person?"

Hannah let out a helpless sigh.

"I’ve stopped trying to understand her."

Her gaze shifted toward Dominic.

"But..."

A small smile appeared on her lips.

"...I’m glad my brother came."

Lily looked at her in surprise.

"You are?"

Hannah nodded.

"Someone has to take responsibility for her."

Meanwhile, Mark was still trying to process the unbelievable scene unfolding before him.

His eyes moved between Dominic and Clara.

Then back again.

Finally... he rubbed his eyes.

"No... This can’t be real."

Mark looked at Clara from head to toe.

The oversized chef’s uniform, flour-covered apron, and cap made her look nothing like the elegant Mrs. Sterling he was used to seeing.

He swallowed hard.

"Good grief..."

Mrs. Sterling in this outfit is somehow even scarier.

For one terrifying second, he considered pretending he had forgotten something and running in the opposite direction.

Thankfully, common sense won.

No.

Running away from both the boss and his wife sounds like a terrible career decision.

Meanwhile, Dominic’s attention remained entirely on Clara.

His gaze slowly traveled over her disguise before stopping on her hand.

His expression changed instantly.

"You got hurt."

Clara instinctively looked down.

A few tiny cuts from the shattered glass were still visible across the back of her hand.

She let out an awkward laugh.

"Oh..."

She casually tried to hide it behind her back.

"It’s just a scratch."

Before she could pull her hand away, Dominic gently caught her wrist.

His brows knitted together.

[The cuts haven’t even been cleaned.]

[They’re really tiny.]

[They’re still cuts.]

"It’s nothing." Clara attempted to speak between racing thoughts. But as usual Dominic didn’t pay attention to what she said.

[It needs to be disinfected.]

Clara puffed out her cheeks. She knew no matter how clearly she could hear his thoughts, there was no way she could voice it out loud. Yet she tried to justify him.

"Dom..."

"No."

She sighed dramatically. "You never let me win arguments."

Dominic looked at her without changing his expression.

"Because you argue against common sense."

Clara blinked. "...That’s slightly rude."

"It’s accurate."

Mark quickly looked away, pretending to admire the parking lot.

Nope. I didn’t hear anything. I value my job.

Without another word, Dominic turned around, still holding Clara’s hand.

"Come on."

"Where are we going?"

"To clean your hand."

"But I feel perfectly fin—"

"I wasn’t asking."

Clara looked helplessly at Hannah.

"See? My husband is bullying me again."

Hannah folded her arms. "I support him."

"Betrayal."

"Self-preservation," Hannah corrected.

Lily nodded immediately.

"I support Master too."

Clara gasped dramatically. "Not you as well!"

Ignoring her theatrical complaints, Dominic led her toward the car.

He opened the passenger door himself. "Get in."

Clara obediently climbed inside, still pouting. Before closing the door, Dominic glanced at Mark.

"You take a taxi to the company."

"Yes, Boss."

Mark answered immediately.

As Dominic walked around to the passenger seat, Mark watched the couple in silence.

After a long pause, he leaned toward Hannah and whispered,

"...Does Boss always become this... gentle around Mrs. Sterling?"

"No." Hannah smiled knowingly.

Mark looked confused.

"...No?"

"He becomes even gentler."

Mark stared at the car pulling away.

For the second time that day... his understanding of Dominic Sterling shattered completely.

***

Throughout the drive, Clara tried everything she could to convince Dominic that her injuries were nothing serious.

"Dom, they’re just tiny scratches."

No response.

"They’ll heal on their own."

Silence.

"I’ve had paper cuts that hurt more than these."

Dominic kept his eyes on the road, not even sparing her a glance.

His silence spoke louder than any lecture.

Meanwhile, his thoughts were busy scolding her.

[She sneaks into a wedding disguised as a waitress... gets involved in chaos... breaks a glass display... and walks away with cuts on her hand. And somehow she thinks it’s ’nothing.’]

Clara stole a glance at him before quietly sinking back into her seat.

Yep... He’s definitely upset.

For the rest of the journey, she wisely kept her mouth shut.

A few minutes later, the car came to a smooth stop in front of Heaven International.

Clara blinked.

"Huh?"

She looked out of the window. "Dom..."

He had already stepped out of the car.

Walking around to her side, he opened the passenger door before extending his hand toward her.

"Come."

Clara obediently placed her hand in his and followed him inside.

The moment they entered the grand lobby, conversations came to an abrupt halt.

Employees who had been busy working instinctively turned to look.

After all, everyone in Heaven International had heard one piece of news recently.

Their CEO had gotten married.

But... no one had actually seen Mrs. Sterling.

Naturally, curious whispers began spreading across the lobby.

"Is... is that Mrs. Sterling?"

"I think so."

One employee squinted at Clara’s appearance.

"...I thought people said she was stunning."

Another looked at Clara’s oversized chef’s uniform, flour-covered apron, and cap.

"Maybe she is..." he hesitated. "...but today she looks like a very angry kitchen ghost."

"Pfft—"

Someone immediately coughed to hide their laughter.

Another whispered, "Forget the kitchen ghost. She looks like she fought an entire bakery... and won."

Clara’s eyelids twitched.

I can hear every single one of you.

She forced a polite smile while Dominic continued walking as though he hadn’t heard a thing.

Traitor.

Without slowing down, he led her straight toward the private elevator reserved for executives.

The moment the elevator doors slid shut, cutting them off from the curious employees...

Clara spun around. Her cheeks puffed with indignation.

"Dominic Sterling!"

He looked at her calmly.

"Yes?"

She pointed dramatically at her own clothes. "Are you making fun of me?"

His eyebrow lifted.

"Why would you bring me to the company dressed like this?"

She gestured wildly at herself.

"I’m wearing a chef’s uniform! My apron still has flour on it! And don’t even get me started on this cap!"

Dominic glanced at her from head to toe.

"...It suits you."

Clara gasped in disbelief.

"It does not!" For once Clara wanted Dominic to keep aside his ’I don’t care’ look.

"I’ve seen worse," he added.

"That’s not helping!"

She folded her arms and huffed.

"If I’d known you were bringing me to the office instead of taking me home, I would’ve changed first."

Dominic looked completely unbothered.

"And waste more time before treating your hand?"

"...Yes?"

"No."

"But everyone was staring at me."

"They were," he agreed.

"They called me a kitchen ghost!"

A faint smile tugged at the corner of Dominic’s lips.

"I heard."

"And you didn’t defend me!"

He looked at her with a perfectly straight face.

"They were wrong."

Clara’s eyes brightened. "They were?"

"Yes."

She smiled hopefully.

"I don’t think ghosts are this noisy."

For two whole seconds... the elevator fell silent. Then Clara stared at him in utter disbelief.

"...You just called your wife noisy."

Dominic’s lips curved into the smallest hint of a smile.

"I stated an observation."

Clara pointed an accusing finger at him.

"I’m telling Dad."

For the first time that day, Dominic actually chuckled. He didn’t realize teasing Clara would be so fun, and despite seeing her fuming, he couldn’t stop himself from doing so.
