At this point, it was already known that Lucien was coming up with a strategy to distract them from the Tree, which would ultimately allow Morbius descend and fulfil his master’s wishes.

However, Jacob was plenty steps ahead.

After a long moment of pondering, Lucien finally learned what to do, his plan was simple enough.

He held gaze with the grass covered terrain as he got up, his frizzy hair almost covering his vision.

Angels in this world looked very much like humans, in peak form. Everything was the same, from the hair, to the build. But there were slight differences.

Lucien, for example, had porcelain skin that glowed with a bright golden hue, his pupils were pure gold, and so was his hair.

They differed from humans in a way that suggested they had reached the peak of existence. Second only to the gods. Lucien kept his gaze down, muttering to himself in an effort to remember what he would do to get the elders to move away from the tree.

He eventually struggled to his feet, barely standing as his knees almost buckled. He looked up for the first time, his eyes meeting Jacob’s almost immediately.

Lucien said nothing. Jacob said nothing.

Lucien grunted as he managed to put one foot in front of the other, each step felt like he was carrying heavy boulders on his feet, but he pushed regardless.

Another round of sweat had began to bead on his forehead as he closed the distance between him and the rest of the elders.

"Is he helping us... or? I don’t know, he looks a little off. And why is he in chains—" Light started to speak, unable to read the room as usual.

"Silence boy, let’s hear what he’s about to say." Alaric interrupted the young man, pointing to his direction as if telling him to ’get back,’ but without actually looking at him.

Lucien had finally reached a reasonable distance, the sweat burned his eyes as it cascaded down his face. He heaved and grunted. It took every ounce of willpower for him to maintain his stance, the chain as tight as ever around his hands.

The rest of the elders, including Jacob, Xenia, and Light stood backing the tree and watched him closely, waiting for whatever lies he had planned to tell them.

Lucien took a deep breath, he had already gone over what he was going to do in his mind, there was no other way. At the end of the day, he always did what was going to benefit him the most.

The reason he had supported the Demon King was not because he wanted to destroy the world. No. The gods had cast him out of the heavens for adultery. Yes, he had taken a goddess to bed. The wife of the famed lunar god. A sin that was normally paid for with a grand execution. Instead, they chose to banish him, and cast him away.

Only he knew of this punishment. Since the Demon King was the only person he knew that could challenge the heavens, he decided to partner with him. In hopes that one day, the Demon King might destroy the heavens and he, being Lucien, will build it anew, as the number one god. It was a lofty plan, but it was guaranteed to work if the Demon King was successful.

Lucien stood there, breathing heavily, his mind was made up. If he was ever going to escape a predicament such as this, this was the only way, he opened his mouth...

"The evildoer Morbius has reached out to me using some hellish technique that allowed him to get into my mind! He told me to create an opening, pulling you all away from the tree so he can descend close to it and do the Demon King’s bidding." Lucien shouted at the top of his voice.

One last attempt to salvage himself, he knew that there was really nothing he could do or say that would make these people move away from the tree, so his best chance was to try and get back in their good graces, crazy as it was.

Jacob’s lips curled into a knowing smile. But everyone else was shocked.

In Lucien’s mind, after the events that had already taken place, the demon king had lost already. There was no scenario in which the plans of Morbius would come to fruition.

"Beware of Morbius!" Lucien screamed again, it took everything in him to make his voice audible enough for everyone to hear. This was his last saving grace. If they could at least forgive him... "He has managed to obtain a tenth of the demon king’s power—"

In a flash, faster than most their eyes could see, Lucien had ceased to exist. No, he lay there on the floor, his blood poured endlessly, soaking the green grasses in pools of dark crimson.

His limbs had been completely severed from his body and his head had rolled off, eyes and mouth open as though he was still experiencing the shock of being crushed to bits.

His cuffed hands lay in another direction, the cuffs still squeezing against his wrists relentlessly.

On top of the spot where Lucien once stood, stood someone else, someone very familiar to most of them.

A large, grotesque, crimson horned demon bearing a deep gash across its face. He stood like a human but had the appearance of a demon. It was Morbius.

He had one knee rested against what used to be Lucien’s chest, the other planted in a pool of blood. He reached forward and scooped a pinch of blood with the claw on his index finger, bringing the finger to his mouth as he tasted it in the most sinister fashion.

Everybody else just watched in surprise, everybody except Jacob and Alaric, as they had already communicated earlier. The synergy between them stronger than ever.

"Stupid Angel, my master warned me of your slithery nature. You are no better than a demon. What better joy than to crush you with my bare hands and taste your bitter blood."

Morbius said in the deepest voice Jacob had ever heard as he stood to his feet. He wielded his chained sickles in both hand now. The blades whining in bloodlust.
