Chapter 2784: Chapter 2784: Underground

Yu Qi immediately summoned several small crystal vials from the Sere.

"Brother Hui, administer this to every single child." Yu Qi stated.

Long Hui accepted the bottles, uncorking them one by one. He carefully poured a small drop of the luminous liquid into each child’s mouth, where the medicinal elixir automatically trickled down their throats.

This was a high-grade nourishing elixir personally refined by Yu Qi. Not only would it instantly restore their physical vitality, but it would also replenish vital nutrients, cure dehydration, and suppress hunger for several days. She had no doubt those ruthless scumbags had deliberately starved the children to weaken them, ensuring they would be far too exhausted to resist or attempt an escape.

After confirming that every single child had ingested the elixir, Yu Qi quietly pulled the heavy cargo container door shut once more. She deliberately chose to leave the children inside for the time being. It was simply far safer. If they woke up prematurely and ran around the compound in a blind panic while armed guards were still active, the situation could spiral out of control. The reinforced shipping containers actually provided a secure sanctuary until the entire island had been completely neutralised.

Inside the dark container, several children gradually began regaining consciousness. Some slowly blinked open their eyes. Others rubbed their stomachs in utter bewilderment. They all found it bizarre. Just moments ago, they had been agonisingly hungry, bone-tired, and aching all over. Now, although they were still frightened by their dark surroundings, they no longer felt weak or famished.

Some of the older children quietly whispered to the younger ones, gently comforting them and reminding them to stay quiet.

Meanwhile, following the precise mapping Bo Ya had provided, Yu Qi and Long Hui finally located one of the hidden subterranean entrances. A heavily armed mercenary stood guard outside the reinforced steel blast door, rifle held at ready.

Without wasting a single second, Yu Qi flicked a tiny pinch of sleeping powder toward his face. The guard inhaled the odourless dust completely unawares. Less than three seconds later, his vision swam violently. His assault rifle slipped from his numb fingers before he collapsed face-first onto the hard concrete.

Yu Qi stepped forward and tested the reinforced security door. Unfortunately, it was locked down tight with a heavy-duty, military-grade electronic encryption lock. She glanced over at Long Hui and gestured toward the frame, intending for him to simply force the heavy mechanism open with raw strength.

However, Long Hui merely offered a faint, amused smile. He placed his palm lightly over the digital keypad. A gentle, concentrated stream of pure spiritual energy flowed through the metal panel and into the internal wiring. Within seconds, the intricate electronic circuits silently melted into liquid slag from the inside, without generating the slightest sound, spark, or alarm trigger.

Click.

The heavy steel security door unlocked itself with a soft hiss.

Yu Qi blinked in surprise.

"...Always showing off." Yu Qi muttered under her breath.

Long Hui simply chuckled softly before pushing the heavy door open.

The two slipped inside, venturing down into the underground complex. The corridor was not overly wide, but it plunged surprisingly deep into the island’s bedrock. Bright, clinical white strip-lights illuminated the entire passageway, and the air carried a suffocating stench of industrial chemicals, harsh disinfectants, and medical reagents. As they pressed deeper into the complex, they finally spotted several personnel clad in white lab coats and tactical security gear.

One of the researchers suddenly paused, frowning. "...Did you hear that?"

"Yeah." Another man nodded, looking back. "I thought I heard footsteps behind us."

They instinctively turned around to check the corridor. However, there was no one there. The long, white hall remained dead silent.

The question was left unanswered. Both of them looked at each other. The two men exchanged puzzled glances.

"Forget it." The first researcher waved his hand dismissively. "We need to step on it. Mr Vaughn ordered us to transfer all high-value test subjects to the deep sector immediately. We are evacuating the island."

"So suddenly?" The second man asked, bewildered.

"How the hell should I know?" The first man barked impatiently. "Just shut up and move faster!"

Before either of them could take another step, their vision suddenly blurred out. Neither of them even realised what hit them.

Thud!

Thud!

Both men collapsed onto the cold, sanitised floor, completely knocked out cold.

Without sparing them another glance, Yu Qi and Long Hui continued walking deeper into the underground facility, leaving the unconscious men behind. The farther they ventured into the subterranean complex, the more personnel they encountered. Armed guards, researchers in white lab coats, and technicians hurried frantically through the corridors, all seemingly rushing to carry out Hector Vaughn’s emergency evacuation order.

Yu Qi and Long Hui showed no hesitation whatsoever. Anyone they came across was immediately rendered unconscious before they even realized someone was standing beside them. One after another, bodies quietly collapsed throughout the underground passageways without triggering the slightest alarm.

Eventually, they reached a much wider chamber. This time, however, the situation was markedly different. Instead of only a handful of guards, an entire squad of armed personnel surrounded a large group of helpless captives.

Yu Qi’s eyes narrowed into razor-sharp slits.

About twenty men and women stood huddled together, their hands tightly bound behind their backs with heavy-duty zip ties. Their expressions were filled with sheer terror and utter despair. Among them were two young children.

The younger child looked no older than six years old, while the older one appeared to be around ten. Both children were trembling uncontrollably as tears silently streamed down their pale, sunken faces. It was immediately obvious that these people were part of the captive test subjects being held inside the facility.
