The fish soup he first consumed was unnamed, but it seemed Darla had now given it a name: White Fish Soup. Red himself was not good at naming, and he felt like the name described well how the soup looked. Fish with white broth, which was White Fish Soup.
So yeah, he felt particularly nothing about how Darla nodded, nodding understandingly at what the dish was called. The most important part was the blessing.
Just like the grilled fish, White Fish Soup was also improved. It was 45+ Dexterity and 4 hours duration. It was now 50+ Dexterity and 5 hours duration, the same increase as the Grilled Crimson Scale Biter: +5 stat and one hour duration increase.
Red was delighted with the improvement. The two infused dishes gave one more level of Dexterity than it was supposed to. The two dishes were supposed to give him +80 Dexterity, yet it was now +90 Dexterity.
He put the plate and the bowl back, taking two more slots in his Storage Pouch. Darla didn’t ask him to, but she might want it back. Of course, he would throw them away if he had more valuables to store.
"Grrrr... Grrrrrrr... Grrr..."
Red heard a growling sound after storing the bowl and plate. His head snapped toward the voice, which came from below him. He spotted a pack of Harke, eight of them.
The furred creature was looking up, looking toward where he was, even though he was covered by the thick canopy. He was confident they couldn’t see him, yet they were looking toward his direction. As if they were certain that he was there.
The eight Harke were salivating; thick liquid dripped from their mouth with their mouth open, growling. The pack of four-legged creatures won’t move, staring at the same spot.
’Ah, the smell. They must smell the grilled fish or the White Fish Soup.’
The two dishes were indeed more aromatic, and the Harke seemed to be able to smell the aroma. They were attracted by his food, but they didn’t actually know he was here. The food was what lured them.
Red didn’t have any intention of killing them because he was on duty, not willing to waste his time hunting them. He was about to leave, yet his feet remained.
He remembered how close he was to the next level; he just needed his Magic Stat to reach the threshold. Two of his Magic Stats were close to the threshold, and he needed all the cores he could get his hands on. It meant it was hunting time.
He turned around, storing his sword into his Storage Pouch and pulling the bow from his back. Then he took an arrow and looked down, observing the pack.
He had to make sure that he killed the beast that was higher level than him, or else he would not be able to loot them. Fortunately, they were within the range of his Appraisal. He found out he didn’t really need to worry about the level. All eight Harke were at a higher level. The lowest was level 14, and the highest was level 18.
Red drew his bow, aiming at the level 18 Harke. The black-spotted beast hadn’t noticed him yet, still staring straight in his direction. That was when he released his first shot.
His sword made a rustling noise as it went through the thick leaves. That seemed to surprise Harke, but they were not able to react. An arrow embedded in Level 18 Harke’s head.
It let out a shocked whimper, which was quickly cut off. The arrow pierced through the head, striking down to the ground. Level 18 Harke’s head was stuck to the ground.
Confusion ensued among the Harke, but Red took it to his advantage. The second arrow flew amidst their confusion. That second arrow hit the head again, killing it in one shot.
Red was prepared to chase after the remaining Harke, thinking they would run after the first two were killed. To his surprise, they turned toward him, growling in fury.
He thought they were intelligent creatures, but they were not that smart, after all. While they didn’t run, they were being prepared for the next arrow. The third shot grazed Harke’s ear and stuck to the ground. They were stupid, but they had a good reaction.
"Dexterity-type beast, huh?"
Red muttered as he left his position. Since they were not running, he could just switch positions and shoot them from a different angle. That was proven effective as his fourth arrow hit another headshot.
He kept moving around, changing his position. The Harke were not able to react when they didn’t know where the arrow came from. He picked them off one by one without showing himself.
When the fifth Harke died, the remaining three Harke tried to flee. They simultaneously turned around and ran. Red was not going to let his prey escape. He killed them one by one, till the last one.
He used twelve arrows to kill eight Harke, with one shot missed. "I still need to work on shooting the moving target..."
Red retrieved the arrow while exchanging the bodies for loot. He got twenty inferior cores from eight Harke, eleven Might Cores, and nine Magic Cores. He absorbed the Magic Core and saved the eleven Might Cores.
He checked on his Magic Stats afterward and grinned ear to ear when he saw his progress.
[Tier 1 Might]
Strength: 120 Endurance: 120 Vitality: 120 Dexterity: 200 (+80)
[Tier 1 Magic]
Intelligence: 174.6 (+1.8) Wisdom: 175 (+0.6) Arcane Perception: 175 (+1.2) Mind: 172.2 (+1.4)
He maxed out his Wisdom and Arcane Perception. On top of that, his Intelligence was closest to the threshold, just 0.4 shy of the threshold, one magic core. He needed four to five Magic Cores to max his Mind stat, but if he was lucky, he just needed three cores for it.
That meant he needed at least six Magic Cores to reach the next level, level 12.
