Red Monster

Chapter 132: A Golden Opportunity (2)

Red wished he could find more of Harke, given how close he was to level 12. But that didn’t happen as he went further; not a single beast could be found.

Not just the beast, but the environment was slightly different. The temperature was lower, colder; the leaves he passed through were wet, and it was also darker, with little to no light. That made the atmosphere eerie.

The only familiar thing was the tree itself, the same tree with giant roots protruding from the ground. He had a guess as to why he didn’t encounter any living beings.

There was a chance that the kobold hunted all beasts in the area. That was the only thing he could come up with. Those beasts were the source of food, after all, and war needed a lot of food, so they hunted all the beasts in this area.

The reason those kobolds were hunting in their territory might be because they needed the food, not that they wanted to starve the goblin village. That might be the case with how many kobolds he had killed so far. Their numbers were around three to four times his village’s population.

The state of this territory worried Red. He made sure to scour the area, not just going straight to find the kobold village but also to create a safe route.

He wasted one hour of his blessing, scouring the area and yet found nothing, not a single clue why the area was void of life. He started to go further, expanding his search.

Red didn’t find anything until another hour. That was when he heard movement and a slamming noise. The sound traveled quite far, and he could detect it even from a distance.

He didn’t hesitate to dash forward, almost slipping on the wet branch because of how hasty he was. This was the first sign of life in this area.

The slamming sound was getting louder as he finally arrived at the place within a few minutes.

He was up at the highest branch possible while observing the situation. This was his second encounter with a living being, and he found hundreds of kobolds surrounding a pair of massive and long beasts.

This was the first time that Red saw a beast like this one, and he had never heard it from the other Goblin Warriors.

It was long, like ten times his height. It didn’t have a leg, slithering on the ground. The slamming sound was coming from this beast as it smashed the kobold into pulp with its tail.

The body was two times bigger than his own body. That was why it produced a loud noise with a single slam. The creature was covered in scales, gleaming in the dark. Especially the lower belly parts, which were bright yellow, and the scales on its upper body were purple.

It had a long, black, blade-like horn, and its tail was unique, as each of them had a different type of tail. The one who slammed the kobold had a normal-looking tail, but the other one had a unique sword-like tail. It was sharp, as he saw how the beast cut the kobold into two pieces in a single swing.

The creature hissed angrily at the kobolds, charging forward toward the crowd of two-legged, scaled monsters. It was a blind-rage rush, as if the beast was in a hurry. It didn’t fight to eat the kobold; it was trying to reach the area behind the kobolds.

However, there was a line of Elite Kobold Fighters. There were twenty of them, blocking the creature’s charge. When the creature swept its sword-like tail, an Elite Kobold Fighter stepped up, blocking the tail with the shield.

The Elite Kobold Fighter fell backward to block that strike, but another Elite Kobold Fighter stepped in to fill the position. The second creature with the normal was bigger than the first one. It tried to smash the Elite Kobold Fighter with its massive tail, but the Elite Kobold Fighter blocked it.

Three Elite Kobold Fighters raised their shields, blocking the descending tail. It produced a loud bang that echoed through the damp jungle.

Meanwhile, the Kobold Archer, Kobold Hunter, and Kobold Warrior took the chance to attack the creature. The arrows bounced off the creature’s shell. The spear and the blade slid through the scales. There was one with a hammer, and that seemed to do the trick.

The bigger creature turned toward the kobold and snatched the kobold with its mouth. Red was surprised by how fast the creature moved. All he saw was just a blur of motion, and next he saw the kobold was in its mouth.

The creature didn’t eat the kobold. It snapped the kobold’s body before throwing it away. More Elite Kobold Fighters were rushing in, trying to help. There were now twenty-six Elite Kobold Fighters to block the creatures.

Red could tell the beasts not to try to eat the kobold. It meant the kobold had something they wanted. He looked over, curious what the beast tried to get from the kobold. That was when he found a smaller version of the creature in the back line of the kobolds, surrounded by eight Elite Kobold Fighters.

Not just one, but three smaller versions of the big, slithering creature. Everything made sense now. Those two massive beasts were trying to save their children from the kobolds.

He focused on the back of the kobold. The kobolds were not trying to kill the children of the beasts. He could tell because the Elite Kobold Fighters were armed with blunt bats and a shield. They were beating the children of the beast, trying to capture those three alive.

While they were trying to capture the three children, they didn’t show mercy when they beat them with the bat. Each hit would cause them to hiss. When the parents heard their children’s voices, they would grow agitated, trying to rush the crowd of kobolds.

’What do I do?’

This was without a doubt a chance for him. He could cause massive damage on the kobolds’ side and foil whatever the kobolds tried to do with these two beasts.

Or the second option was to go back and get the Chief and their army here. With the main army here, they could wipe out the kobolds.

That was the difference: wiping them out or causing massive damage to the kobolds. Both solutions had the same issue: the beast issue. There was no guarantee that the beasts would not attack the goblin.

Considering that problem, it would be safe if he acted alone. He should be able to escape from the two massive beasts. He was confident, especially if he took all the blessings.
