Red Monster

Chapter 133: Solo Action

Red squatted and observed the situation intensely. It was really hard for Red to make the decision right away. Wiping out the kobold was the best course of action, but there were too many variables.

What if the Kobolds managed to capture or kill the beast before the Chief could come? That was a possibility. The possibility that the beast would attack them. The worst scenario would be when the kobold captured those three children and controlled the parents.

That was a possibility, as they could even manipulate the Dire Wolf King to attack the goblin village. They might be able to control these two scary beasts.

He knew that he must make the decision quickly. If he wanted to interfere with the kobolds and whatever they planned, he must act now, while they were not yet in control of the situation.

If he wanted to report back, he must go now so they could make it in time. Timing was crucial in his two options.

He made the decision, not the crucial one, taking out the Mystic Grill Rabbon. Whatever his decision would be, he needed the blessing. So yeah, it would be a favor if he could activate all blessings. The tantalizing aroma of the Mystic Grilled Rabbon stung his nose. He closed his eyes for a moment, relishing the moment.

The Mystic Grilled Rabbon was still hot and smoky. Since he was in a hurry, he quickly devoured the whole rabbon the moment he opened his eyes. He put the bones to the side, ignoring the notification for now as he took the second infused dish, Mystic Meaty Gruel.

He gulped down the hot, steaming bowl and finished it within four gulps. Next was Mystic Dire Wolf Leg and Dire Wolf Steak, and his last menu item was the meaty potato. He didn’t use Appraisal on the food, so he didn’t know whether Darla had named it or not.

Red finished the whole course of the meal and checked the notification. He was curious about the improvement of the other blessings, especially the Mystic Meaty Gruel that gave him Stamina Regeneration and Health Regeneration.

[You have consumed Mystic Chef’s infused dish, Potatooo.]

[You have received Mystic Chef’s blessing: +10 Strength, +20 Endurance, +25 Vitality. Duration: 5 hours.]

All dishes underwent improvement; some even had a leap improvement. Mystic Grilled Rabbon was supposed to give him +25 Dexterity for three hours.

The same with the Mystic Dire Wolf Leg. +10 stat improvement from the previous version, and a two-hour increase in duration. The steak gave him 80 more Stamina, and it had 5 stat improvements for each attribute and also increased duration. The new infused dish gave him an increase in Endurance and Vitality, which he didn’t have before.

He noticed the strange name and wondered why Darla named it like that. If not for his current predicament, that might be a bother for a little longer. The least improvement was from the Mystic Meaty Gruel.

It still gave him Minor Stamina Regeneration I and Minor Health Regeneration I. The same blessing with a two-hour increase in duration. But he knew those two regeneration blessings were more than enough based on his previous experience. The duration increase was the massive boon from this type of blessing.

He finished and activated all blessings. It felt like he was leveling up for several levels at once. He checked his stats quickly.

[Tier 1 Might]

Strength: 185 (+65) Endurance: 140 (+20) Vitality: 145 (+25) Dexterity: 290 (+170)

[Tier 1 Magic]

Intelligence: 174.6 Wisdom: 175 Arcane Perception: 175 Mind: 172.2

Maybe those increases in his stats gave him more courage and boldness. He made his decision to interrupt the kobold without asking for reinforcement to come.

Red had three solid reasons, at least he thought so. First, the increase in his Might Stats gave him more confidence in fighting the big group, including the Elite Kobold Fighter.

Second, it was his greed. He was so close to level 12, and he would reach level 12 by ambushing these kobolds. That was a certainty, and he might reach level 13 if he could kill all Elite Kobold Fighters.

Third, because he might lose this golden opportunity to strike if he made his way back to the Chief. He actually found the reason it was better not to wipe out this group. He needed them to survive so he could follow them and find their village.

The third reason was actually the brilliant idea he thought of when he thought of making an excuse for the Chief. There was a chance that the Chief might find out that he fought a big group and took the loot for himself. He needed to make an excuse if the Chief ever found out. However, that excuse became a solid reason for him not to report back. His goal was to find the kobold’s village, after all.

With that in mind, Red made his move. He moved between trees; again, his carelessness almost slipped. His increase in Dexterity made him miscalculate his move, and the slippery branch almost caused him to fall. Thankfully, it was his high Dexterity that also saved him.

Red slowed down and moved; his goal was not to help the parents, but the children of the beast. He didn’t know why the kobolds wanted to capture the children. He had a guess that it was to control them, but that was merely a guess. Whatever they planned, he was determined to make it fail.

He quickly shortened the distance and pulled out his throwing spear. The moment he was in range, he quickly took action. He threw the first spear.

The kobolds and the Elite Kobold Fighters were so focused on the beast that no one noticed the rustling noise. The spear flew through and pierced the back of the Elite Kobold Fighter’s head.

The Elite Kobold Fighter screamed as it fell forward. The hissing scream, filled with pain mixed with rage, echoed. That caused the other seven Elite Kobold Fighters to turn around, looking in the direction where the spear was coming from.

However, none of them looked up. They assumed the spear came from someone on the ground. That caused confusion among the Elite Kobold Fighters because they didn’t see the culprit. All they saw were the Kobold Archer and Kobold Hunter. None of them had a spear to throw.

Red didn’t stay in the same position as he moved to the side, holding the second spear. He knew the arrow was kinda useless against the Elite Kobold Fighter, so that was why he didn’t use it.

He was getting into a new position, and to his surprise, the kobold with a spear in the back of its head was standing back on its feet. It slowly turned around, also trying to find the culprit.

Red was stunned that the Elite Kobold Fighter stood back after that hit. He always assumed that a hit in the head was an instant kill, yet he was proven wrong. This shocking find delayed his following attack.

The hesitation stemmed from that kobold with a spear in the head. He was thinking whether it was better to finish that one off, or whether he should target a different Elite Kobold Fighter.

While Red hesitated for a moment, the slithering beast attacked. The three siblings slammed their tails against the head of the Elite Kobold Fighter, with a spear in the head. The three beasts combined forces and sent the Elite Kobold Fighter flying.

That was when the attention returned to them, and that was when Red took action. He guessed that the kobold was still alive because it still had some health left. That Elite Kobold Fighter would have a potion to save its life, but he believed it didn’t have a potion. So yeah, he didn’t target it again, as it would slowly die.

The second spear flew off, but this time his target noticed the spear, albeit it was too late. It jerked backward, trying to avoid the spear.

The spear didn’t hit the head, but it pierced through the neck. It went through to the other side as blood spurted out. Even with a spear inside its neck, the kobold was still standing. It swayed for a moment when the spear embedded in its neck, but it regained balance and stood strong.

Again, they turned toward the direction from which the spear came. This time they realized the attack was coming from above the tree.
