Red Monster

Red’s position was exposed, not the exact position, just the direction. He didn’t panic even though he might have to face six Elite Fighter Kobolds, two of them critically wounded. Even if his exact location was exposed, he was confident he could escape from them.

It was not just blind confidence; he had fought them and knew most of their skills. They could no longer catch him off guard. He would be prepared for everything.

The two Elite Kobold Fighters dashed toward where the spear came from. By the time they arrived at the tree where the spear shot from, Red was no longer there. He had already moved to a different position, six trees away from that one. A spear was in his hand as he locked on the next target.

The Elite Kobold Fighter with a spear in the neck was still standing, even helping to surround the baby beasts. It was still in a condition to fight even with a spear in the neck. That was just amazing Vitality that kobold had to be able to stand and fight in that condition.

Red could take it down with another spear, but he chose a different target. He ignored the two Elite Kobold Fighters who looked for him, focusing on the five that tried to gang on three baby beasts.

Whoosh!

He picked the closest kobold to him, and he immediately went into action before the two kobolds rejoined the group. At this point, the Elite Kobold Fighter seemed to recognize the rustling noise that the spear made when it passed through the leaves.

Three out of five Elite Kobold Fighters turned toward the noise, reacting to it. Unfortunately for Red, the closest Elite Kobold Fighter was the first one to react. It saw the spear coming and reacted in time, raising its shield.

The spear pierced through the shield and stopped before it reached its head. It immediately hissed angrily, seemingly calling the two Elite Kobold Fighters that were looking for Red earlier.

They seemed to realize that the spear thrower might be more dangerous than they imagined. Again, the three baby beasts took the chance, lunging toward one of the kobolds. Their action was in sync, striking one kobold.

The two baby beasts slammed their tails at the calf of one Elite Kobold Fighter. That was strong enough to flip the Elite Kobold Fighter. Once the Elite Kobold Fighter was lying down on the ground.

There was a baby beast with a sharp tail, and that baby beast stabbed the kobold in the chest. The tail pierced through the black armor, impaling down through the kobold’s chest to the back.

The baby beast didn’t do it just once or twice, but six times. The blood splattered all around before the two other baby beasts smacked the bloody kobold’s head with a powerful tail whip. The crunching sound echoed, and the kobold completely stopped moving after.

Red would not miss such a golden opportunity as he threw the fourth spear. The spear hit one Elite Kobold Fighter in the eye. The spear was so powerful that it pierced through to the back of the kobold’s head.

The Elite Kobold Fighter staggered three steps backward and tripped over the protruding roots. It fell on its back while crying in pain.

The synchronized attack between the baby beast and Red caused confusion, even to the Elite Kobold Fighter. They were having a hard time deciding which to deal with first.

They would be picked one by one by the unseen enemy if they focused on the baby beast. They would like to deal with the unseen enemy, but how could they deal with it when they could not see this enemy?

The cries and screams seemed to attract attention from the other side, who tried to deal with the baby beast’s parents. Three Elite Kobold Fighters left that side, rushing over to help. Even with three of them leaving, there were still twenty-three Elite Kobold Fighters to delay the parent beast.

The three Elite Kobold Fighters were furious to find out that one was dead and two suffered critical injuries to the head. They seemed to say something, taking command and sending out the order.

That was when the remaining five standing Elite Kobold Fighters took out their weapons, the real ones, not the wooden bats.

Red found the situation might be bad for the baby beast. The beast was not his ally, but they were his temporary ally in this fight. They must survive as long as possible so he could deal damage to the kobold.

He didn’t want to use his fireball, afraid of hurting the baby beast. He changed his mind when the Elite Kobold Fighter’s situation was stabilized with three additional Elite Kobold Fighters.

Red directed his right hand toward the other side, toward the kobold dealing with the baby beast’s parents.

’Five times mana should be enough... or maybe six?’

He changed midway, using six times the mana. That last increase of mana made the fireball even more unstable than usual. That forced him to quickly release the fireball that was triple the size of his head.

His target was not the Elite Kobold Fighter, but just the ordinary Kobold Hunter, Kobold Warrior, and Kobold Archer. They were clumped together so nicely for him.

Red didn’t stay still after shooting the fireball, moving to a safe distance as the fireball erupted behind him. The violence of fire swallowed everything around it. The kobolds screamed in fear, but their voices were swallowed by the explosion. The impact tore down the roots, hurling splinters all over before the fire caught up as the ground shook.

The Elite Kobold Fighters threw themselves away from the explosion. That was their natural reaction when they saw the wave of fire coming for them.

All kobolds, including the Elite Kobold Fighters, threw themselves to the ground. They sought shelter from the fire and the powerful wave from the explosion behind the protruding roots.

Amidst the chaos and fire, two big silhouettes shot through the blazing fire. It was as if they didn’t care about the fire, and they moved so fast.

Red was taking cover behind the wide trunk. He could feel the heat wave, but he was safe from the explosion. He had a bad feeling when the fireball in his hand instantly went unstable. That was not supposed to happen.

He could still control the fire a little bit; the last time he used fireball, it cost six times as much mana. But the fireball instantly went unstable, which was why he quickly sought cover after shooting the fireball.

When he took a peek at the explosion, that was when he saw the two big silhouettes. The parent beasts were coming for their baby. They literally tore apart all the kobolds in pieces with their horns. The tails smashed the kobolds who tried to get back on their feet, and their bodies crushed the kobolds on the ground.

Within a few seconds, the two big beasts arrived next to their baby. They coiled their bodies around their children, in a position to protect them. Their heads stood tall, looking down at the kobolds.

There were charred marks on their body. The scales lost their luster after going through the fire.

That was when he saw a blur of movement as one of the parents snatched the Elite Kobold Fighter. Its mouth was big enough to fit the Elite Kobold Fighter. The kobold was half inside the mouth, and the beast slammed it to the ground. The kobold’s body snapped as the bone-cracking sound echoed alongside the cracking fire.

The two parents went on a rampage, killing all the nearest kobolds. It was as if they were taking revenge on the kobold. If the Elite Kobold Fighters didn’t quickly recover, the two beasts might wipe out all the surviving kobolds, considering how angered they were.

Thirteen Elite Kobold Fighters rushed over, fighting off the two beasts, delaying them while buying time for their comrades to recover. Out of thirty-four Elite Kobold Fighters, only twenty-six survived the chaos.

The Elite Kobold Fighter with wounds in their head was dying. They were still alive, barely. Their bodies were still moving, twitching on the ground. But it was just a matter of time before they died. They suffered massive blood loss, and the location of their wound was fatal. The blast from the fireball was enough to knock them off, and they were not able to get up anymore afterward.

Whatever the kobolds planned, they changed their approach. They were stopping the parents from saving their baby while the others tried to capture the baby beast. They were not attacking the beast to kill, but now they attacked the beast with an intention to kill.

Red was ready with his fifth spear as he observed the battle between the two big beasts against twenty-six Elite Kobold Fighters. These six Elite Kobold Fighters were totally on a different level than the ones they fought before. Their teamwork was better, quickly covering each other.

As he observed the battle, he noticed something about the beast’s attack. He sensed mana in each of their attacks even though they were just smelling their tails. He noticed how the beast covered their tail with mana.

He saw the bigger beast send two Elite Kobold Fighters flying with a single strike. That was when he sensed a thick mana covering its tail, which made the strike stronger.

Not just the bigger beast; the other one also coated its blade-like tail with mana. He could sense the mana concentrating around its tail.
