Red Monster

Chapter 142: Still Hated, Nothing New

That explained why the Chief didn’t try to silence these goblins. That was a pointless effort when these goblins were starving. That would incite a riot instead, and the Chief had to kill a dozen of them to silence them.

Knowing what happened and tolerating them were totally different things. It was quite annoying to hear the racket.

"Surprisingly, I also didn’t encounter any prey during my scouting. Maybe the kobolds truly killed them all already," Red informed the Chief that he also could not find any beast.

"We should send them back to hunt in our territory instead of hunting in the kobolds’ territory," He added.

"Liar! There’s no way the kobolds killed all the prey when they were busy attacking our villages!" One of the Goblin Champions retorted, "You eat them, and you don’t want to share your food with the others. Isn’t that the reason why you returned so late?"

Red looked toward the Goblin Champion, pointing at him. He was about to let out a sigh, but he managed to hold back. The one in front of him was a Goblin Champion, not just any random hobgoblin.

Yet it was still the same: another random accusation for no reason. The difference was that he needed to tread this carefully.

"I don’t have a reason to lie when you can find it out soon enough once we enter the jungle. Or you can even send the hunter teams to check."

"I am searching the kobold village with no clue, so I have to scour all jungles to make sure I didn’t miss their village. The jungle is more vast than you think."

The Chief’s hand reached toward the Goblin Champion. There was a little bit of provocation in Red’s last words, at least they deemed so. If not for the Chief, the Goblin Champion would come for Red. The body’s gesture indicated it.

"Did you really not find anything to eat?" The Chief asked.

"I didn’t, Chief. I am also hungry." He didn’t lie when he said he was hungry.

He ate seven servings of all kinds of dishes before leaving the village to scout, but that was less than he usually ate. It was not really filling, but a slight hunger didn’t really bother him.

"What about the food storage of this village? Most of the buildings are still intact, no? Maybe the food storage is still standing."

The four Goblin Champions exchanged glances, realizing what they missed. They quickly ordered the hobgoblins to search the village to find the food storage.

As Red expected, the food storage was still standing, and a lot of cured meat inside. When he said a lot, it meant it was enough for all goblins.

"We can’t eat all the food now, Chief. We can’t attack the Kobold Village now. We don’t have enough time to destroy their village before the night."

Red started to explain the village he found during his scouting. First, the distance was quite far. It would take more than an hour, or maybe even more than two hours, for their force to reach there. The goblins were slower than the hobgoblins and the Goblin Champion.

Second, he told them about the defense of the village. The bad news about the village. The wall they needed to breach, the tower that would see them advancing, and an unknown number of kobolds. He told them how it was impossible to take down the village tonight.

"What nonsense are you talking about? If you know their defense is that strong. That’s more reason to attack them now. They can’t see us at night, and we can surprise them!" The same Goblin Champion berated him again.

Despite the Goblin Champion’s tone, he spoke to him. Red didn’t really get mad. In fact, he seriously thought about it. The Goblin Champion’s idea was not a bad idea. Using the dark night as a cover for an ambush.

"But there’s one problem with it. We don’t know what kind of beasts or creatures live in the jungle. Are we sure it’s safe to attack them at night? The sound of our fight would attract them. Like the King of the Jungle, for example..."

He just found out that recently the strong beast was called King of the Jungle. It was not a title for one specific beast, but for the strong beast that ruled over a certain part of the jungle. He believed the pair of slithering beasts he encountered was in the King of the Jungle’s category.

There was the red-furred beast that he couldn’t find as well, and there might be more terrifying things that hid in the jungle.

Sure enough, that silenced the Goblin Champion. But the Goblin Champion always came back with his retort, trying his best not to allow Red to win in an argument against him.

"You said it yourself that the kobold has killed all the beasts. Unless you are lying to us."

"I didn’t lie. I said the prey, the beast that we hunt for a meal, not the King of the Jungle that I will avoid at all costs. As we know, the source of food in the jungle is thinning out. That might push the King of the Jungle to expand their hunting ground."

Red responded, and he deemed his response to be reasonable, and he didn’t use any weird tone or words that might be offensive. Yet it seemed to piss the Goblin Champion off.

It swallowed the cured meat in his hand, chewing it loudly along with the bone as it rose from the log where it sat. "You are quite good with your mouth. I wonder if you are also good at fighting! If I don’t beat you tonight, I—"

"That’s enough!" The Chief raised his voice, standing between the Goblin Champion and Red.

"If you are going to kill him, then who would do the scouting next? Also, unless you know the way to the kobold village, you better get your ass back on that log! Or if you can find a better replacement for him, then I will let you do whatever to him. Just make sure that replacement can also shoot fireballs!"
