Red Monster

Red returned with bad news. He did a little bit of scouting of the village he discovered. Of course, he didn’t sneak into the village, as it was reinforced with proper defenses. He remained in the distance, checking the village from afar.

The wall was almost twice his height, and it was not a sloppy fence, but a proper wall with no gap to sneak in. The number of guards was quite concerning as well. That tower had four kobolds each.

There were four towers in total, and each tower was built at the corner of the village. Then there was a patrol team as well that patrolled around the wall. Two patrol teams, and each team comprised four kobolds, properly armed.

Then the entrance was located in the opposite direction. The entrance was also guarded by six guards. They were properly organized, not like the guards in his village, where they just slouched against the fence or sat on the grounds. Those guards were standing in a line, properly doing their job.

It was weird to see how organized the kobolds were. The difference between them and his village was too big. It was as if they were properly trained, not just picked up based on their strength.

He tried to get an estimate of the kobolds’ numbers, but that was just too hard when he could not get close to the village. He might even alert the village if he was found out. It was better to stop at this and return to the Chief’s group.

The return trip took longer than he expected. That was because he forgot to mark the tree after the battle against the kobold. But the return went smoother once he returned to the area where the battle took place.

Red decided to create a new route to avoid this battle spot. That was to avoid suspicion that he might take the loot for himself. He didn’t plan to share what happened here with the Chief. Nothing good would come out of sharing it.

He was doing so to avoid the troublesome situation. The Chief might ask him what happened here, and he could lie about it. But it was better if they didn’t pass this area, so there was no need for a lie or explanation.

With the reinforcement goblins, the situation became chaotic. The Chief might not pursue it further, but the other Goblin Champions might have a different thought. So yeah, it was better to avoid this area entirely. He was convinced to do so.

That was another reason why he was slow, creating a new route. Then he slowly made his way back, remaining careful. He didn’t encounter anything earlier, but who knew what might await him when he returned. He remained vigilant, and thankfully he didn’t encounter anything.

The village they used as a base was in sight. He picked up his pace, thinking he could relax here. But he noticed something was not right.

The goblins were naturally rowdy, so he didn’t think much about it at first. But then the noise was getting louder and louder. He could immediately tell it was not the usual rowdiness. Something was happening in the village.

Red ran to check what happened. He didn’t immediately go to the village; he stayed in a tree, checking the situation. The best situation would be a brawl among the goblins to entertain themselves. That was the best situation.

The worst situation was that the three Goblin Champions betrayed the Chief and killed the Chief along with the other goblins and hobgoblins from his village. That was the worst possibility.

But there was no fight or brawl, and he easily found the Chief’s towering figure from the entrance. The four Goblin Champions were standing in the middle of the village together. They didn’t bother to stop the goblins who made a ruckus, as if it was not their problem.

Red frowned, another thing he didn’t like about the Chief, despite the respect he had for the Chief. The noise could attract the beast or any dangerous nocturnal creatures.

Even from a distance, these goblins were too loud for him. Once the sun set, these goblins might attack the night predator. He let out a sigh, came down from the tree, and went back to the village.

His return quickly stirred the already rowdy goblins. There was silence for a moment, which quickly spread out. The four Goblin Champions turned toward him, and the Chief quickly motioned for him to come over.

At this moment, the goblins returned to their rowdiness, and it became more chaotic. There was a goblin that picked up a rock and threw it at Red. It was a pebble and a weak throw.

Red caught the pebble and threw it back at the goblin who threw it at him.

Whoosh!

His throw created a whistling noise, and it was so fast that the goblin could not see it. In the next moment, the pebble hit the goblin’s head and shattered as the goblin was thrown backward. It screamed while clutching its bloody forehead. That silenced the goblin; all of them were staring at the goblin on the ground and Red.

That was when Red raised his sword, pointing at the goblin who was holding a pebble. It was about to throw the pebble but stopped in time.

"I will cut your head if you throw that stone at me! Come if you dare!"

The goblins with a pebble in their hands quickly threw it away, not daring to challenge Red.

"Make a path for him, you fools! He needs to make a report to me!" The Chief’s loud voice echoed, and the goblins quickly parted ways.

Red walked toward the Chief and reported his discovery before the Chief could say anything. "I found the kobold’s village."

The Chief was pleased to hear the positive report, but then he looked up. The sun was still up; maybe they had about two hours left before the sun completely set.

"I would like to attack the village right now so we can solve their hunger once we take their village, but it’s already too late..." The Chief muttered, "How far is it? Do you think we can reach the village before nightfall? Can we take the village down before nightfall?"

Red furrowed his brow, realizing what happened. These goblins were hungry, the reason behind their rowdiness. That explained the situation.

"We don’t have food?" He asked with a frown.

The Chief shook his head. "We have sent groups to hunt, but they can’t find anything that can be eaten. It seems the kobolds have hunted them all."
