Just as Ravian was about to part ways with them, he paused and turned to Adrian.
"By the way, has the Ravenshade faction come to you? As far as I know, a placeholder has been occupying the leader’s seat since your sister graduated. But they should’ve come to offer you the leader’s position now that you’re here."
Adrian replied in his usual tone while looking ahead.
"They did come to me after the end of the practical exam, but I rejected the position." He paused and then continued. "I want to have nothing to do with the Ravenshade faction in this academy. Elias can be the leader after he enrolls next year."
Evangeline furrowed her brow.
"What are these factions? Like, what do they do, and what are the duties of a faction leader?"
Ravian chimed in from the side and began explaining.
"Factions like the Ravenshade faction are an unofficial group of cadets who share the same—"
"You can just think of these factions as gangs," Adrian spoke in his usual dull tone, cutting Ravian’s explanation short. "They have no real purpose besides establishing a group and controlling other cadets. Most such factions are made by noble heirs to grow their power for succession battles against their siblings."
Evangeline nodded lightly.
"Oh, I see..."
Just then, Ravian waved at them as he parted ways.
"Well then, see you in a week at the academy."
Adrian gave him a nod while Evangeline happily waved back.
After that, Adrian and Evangeline returned to the inn and entered their respective rooms.
Their lectures would start in a week, so they spent that time preparing. A lot of things happened that week.
Since they were now officially academy cadets, they were given rooms in the academy’s dormitory. The room was neither too spacious nor too small, just average. Evangeline was assigned the room right next to Adrian’s room, likely a consideration on the academy’s part because they were engaged.
Their uniforms arrived two days before the start of the lectures.
The uniform consisted of a plain deep blue jacket with a white shirt underneath and black pants.
And soon, it was finally the first day of the academy.

Evangeline walked alongside Adrian and Ravian as they approached the building where their lectures were going to be held.
The academy city was quite large, and the academy itself was not just a single building but many buildings, each for a different purpose.
They entered a large, cylindrical building with a dome-like structure. The interior was even larger than it appeared from outside. There were a lot of students walking around in small groups, wearing the same uniform that Evangeline wore.
’There are so many students.’
Soon, they entered what appeared to be a lecture hall large enough to fit more than three hundred cadets. It was largely empty, and Evangeline could spot fewer than fifty students inside.
Adrian took a seat in the corner, and Ravian took the seat next to him.
Evangeline wanted to sit beside them as well, since all of this was so unfamiliar, but...
’I have to make friends!’
And sitting in the corner would likely hinder that.
In the end, she took a random seat somewhere in the middle as she looked around.
’Come on, someone please sit next to me.’
Soon, more cadets entered one by one, and the once-empty lecture hall was slowly filled with cadets.
Evangeline could even recognize some of them, having seen their performance in the Phase Two ranking duels.
’Hm?’
She even spotted the arrogant noble girl who had defeated her in the duel and made her end up in last place among the Phase Three cadets.
’Doesn’t seem like that Phase Three boy is here.’
Well, it was a management-related lecture, so nearly all the cadets present in the lecture hall were nobles.
Unlike the school system from Earth, there was no fixed classroom in this academy. Cadets had to select subjects during enrollment, and they would then attend the regular lectures of their respective subjects. This meant that unless they had chosen similar subjects, it was hard for two cadets to meet.
In the end, nobody sat next to her by the time the professor arrived.
’I should’ve sat alongside Adrian and Ravian. Just my luck...’
She turned her attention to the professor. He was a tall man wearing simple aristocratic attire. His most notable feature was his abnormally long mustache.
Evangeline sighed.
’Here we go.’

Sitting on his bed in his dormitory room, Xion looked around.
’Doesn’t look like there are any surveillance mechanisms.’
Now that the academy had started and the applicants who couldn’t get in had returned, there should be no need to surveil anyone. This meant that whoever was using an Origin ability to surveil everyone should’ve stopped at this point.
’Still, just in case.’
He took out a dull grey coin from his pocket and tossed it.
He then put his hand deep into his mouth and, after a bit of struggle, pulled out a folded piece of paper.
He looked at it silently for a bit.
’I wonder why they went through so much trouble.’
He was not told anything about the reason he was being sent to infiltrate the academy of the enemy nation. They said that it was a ’precaution.’
Well, he could somewhat understand what they meant. It was to prevent an information leak if his infiltration had ended in failure and he was captured.
’Let’s see what’s inside.’
Unfolding the paper, he began reading its contents.
{ Xion, since you are reading this, it means that your infiltration went smoothly. Congratulations.
I want to tell you that this mission is far more important than you can imagine.
For hundreds of years, the continental war had remained at a stalemate because of several factors. The empire is a giant, and even the might of the alliance and the Caelwyn combined can’t hope to hold it back. The only reason this deadlock has persisted for so long is that the empire is divided.
The existence of ancient nobility makes it so that the empire can only utilize half the strength it could’ve.
But even with so many restrictions, the empire is still dominant.
This balance is incredibly fragile, and even a small ripple can tip the scales in the empire’s favor.
Do you understand, Xion?
If things continue to go the way they are going, that fragile balance will completely shatter. And the reason for that...
...will be the Immortal.
Xion, your primary mission is to find an opportunity to abduct the boy who possesses immortality and escape the empire without causing a commotion. Because if that immortal boy is allowed to grow, then he will become the catalyst that will end Caelwyn for good.
As for your secondary mission, try to find out as much as possible about the individuals mentioned below.
1. Adrian Caelis Ravenshade
2. Schniel Solthar Valcarion
3. Evangeline Florivelle
Moreover, we have received information that someone from the notorious underworld organization, Nebulous Veil, has also infiltrated the academy this year. Their purpose is unknown. If you can, then find the identity of that individual.
And if you can’t find the opportunity to abduct the immortal boy, then at least gain as much information as you can about him. Things like his weakness or the limits of his power.
May the Lord guide your path, Xion. }
As he finished reading it, Xion let out a chuckle.
’Haha, aren’t you all giving me too much work?’
