Regnum Aetern: Dual Rebirth

Chapter 191: Information about the academy assignment missions

The customer stood up from her seat and walked toward the door. But as she was about to leave, she turned around and gave Evangeline a light bow.

"Thank you, Miss Eveline. I will be waiting for my custom magitool’s delivery."

Evangeline returned the gesture.

"You wouldn’t need to wait long, Miss. Thank you for your business."

And with that, the girl opened the door and left.

As the shop’s door closed, Evangeline let out a tired sigh.

’Ugh, that was so exhausting. My jaw is hurting from smiling for so long. Just how the hell do Adi or the other nobles do this?’

Leaning back in the armchair, she closed her eyes for a bit, trying to rest.

Opening her eyes moments later, she brought her hand to her ears and removed the earring she wore. And the moment she did, her golden hair returned to its previous pinkish-purple color. Her pale blue eyes also returned to being violet.

Her facial muscles adjusted themselves back, and her face returned to how it was. The same thing happened to her body.

Experiencing those changes happening to her in real time felt incredibly strange.

She looked at the miniature hourglass earring that contained a red liquid instead of sand.

’It’s really coming in handy.’

Back when she had visited a magical shop with Adrian six years ago during their adventure, both she and Adrian had bought a fragment relic.

This was the fragment relic Evangeline had bought back then. Its name was The Witch’s Dream. As for its function, it allowed one to transform into someone else by shifting and changing their physical structure.

Though that change was rather limited. The relic couldn’t change the size or shape of her bones, so the change it could bring wasn’t very drastic.

Back then, Evangeline had bought this fragment relic for a very childish and embarrassing reason.

When she had been only recently reincarnated, it was rather hard for her to get used to the fact that the one in the mirror was really her. She internally knew that it was indeed her, but knowing something and accepting it were two different things.

Her new body had felt more like a virtual reality game avatar than a real body. And so, she had bought this fragment relic as something like a character customization tool. Even back then, she had been aware how embarrassing her actions were, which was why she had hidden this fragment relic from Adrian.

But to think she would have a use for it here.

Evangeline scanned the shop she had set up.

’It’s really fun...’

Adrian’s advice to her had been to create magitools and gain understanding of her elemental affinities through this creation process.

But when Evangeline entered the academy city, she had ‌an awesome idea.

’If I’m going to create magitools anyway, then why not sell them and earn money in the process?’

Of course, her motivation hadn’t really been money. She simply didn’t know the kind of magitool to create. And so, she had decided that she would create them based on the customer’s request.

And it had helped her greatly. The customers who had come to her shop had very creative ideas.

There was this one customer who was tired of doing maintenance on their sword’s blade. So they wanted her to create a magitool sword that had no blade, but a blade would materialize whenever mana was channeled into the hilt.

Moreover, creating a magitool related to a derived element was not as hard as she had initially thought.

She didn’t really need to gain an understanding of that derived element beyond the bare minimum. She could still cast a spell of a derived element without gaining sufficient understanding of that corresponding element.

Sure, it took tens of times more focus and effort, but it was not like she was in the middle of a fight.

She stretched her limbs to shake off the stiffness caused by the transformation.

The transformation with this fragment relic was rather natural and easy to move around in, but whenever she transformed back, her whole body would feel sore for a while. That was the only downside of The Witch’s dream.

Her lips curled up into a smile.

’Taking the loan from Adi was totally worth it!’

She changed back into her academy uniform and left after closing the shop.

’The sword Adi asked for is almost done now. I wonder if he is done creating the spells I asked for.’

She soon reached the building where a lecture she had to attend was going to be held. As she entered the lecture hall, she scanned the cadets sitting inside, trying to find someone.

’There!’

It didn’t take long for her to spot Hazel’s curly green hair since it was rather distinct. She approached and sat in the seat next to the curly-haired girl.

Evangeline waved at Hazel with a smile.

"Hi there, guess who is here?"

Hazel finally noticed her.

"Oh, you finally arrived. That guy you hang out with was looking for you."

Evangeline tilted her head.

’Guy I hang out with?’

"You mean Adi?"

"No, not your fiancé." Hazel shook her head. "I’m talking about that boy with chestnut-colored hair. What was his name again? Ah! Right, it was Ravian. He said that he had done what you and Adrian had asked for. He couldn’t find either of you, so he handed me a piece of paper, saying that I should give it to you if I got the chance."

Saying that, she handed Evangeline a piece of folded paper.

She looked at it curiously for a bit before unfolding it. There were things written on it.

{I have gathered everything about the assignments that we will be completing this year due to the curriculum change.

Everyone has to take on at least one mission every month.

There are three categories of missions to choose from.

The first category is academy-assigned missions. These are missions that the academy professors will assign to you personally. And there is no need for you to form a team for this type of mission since it was tailored for you.

The second category is the quest missions. There are multiple quests you can choose from. The quests usually have to do with solving some problem in the empire. Things like catching a criminal, slaying a beast, or raiding a criminal organization’s base. The minimum requirement for these missions is to be Phase Three. Those below Phase Three can form a group to take on this category of missions.

The third and last category is island exploration. This continent is surrounded by hundreds of small and large islands. There are even islands where people had once lived. The empire hadn’t explored all the islands since there were simply too many. The mission is to go to an unexplored island, explore it, and return with an exploration report. Taking these missions requires you to be at least Phase Four, and being Phase Five is recommended, so even the two of you can’t take a mission from this category. That is, unless all four of the Phase Three cadets form a team.

I was invited by the Crown Prince to join his team to complete a quest mission. The invitation was strange, since I am an ancient noble and the animosity between the imperial family and the ancient nobility is an open secret.

But since the Crown Prince is requesting it personally, it would be strange for me to decline for no solid reason.

So forgive me, but I wouldn’t be able to join your team and complete the mission with you.

Miss Evangeline, please pass this paper to Adrian as well.

Good luck with your mission.}

Evangeline slowly folded back the paper as her thoughts were occupied by the contents she had read.

’So there are three kinds of missions... the academy-assigned missions feel like they were there for the cadets who didn’t manage to enter someone’s group or form their own. Most of the cadets will probably be attending the quest missions.’

Well, there were only two options to choose from in the first place. Because, as Ravian had mentioned in the note, taking the island exploration mission would only be possible if all four of the Phase Three cadets formed a team.

But as she sat there, pondering her choice between the two, a thought was continuously surfacing in her mind.

’I really wanna go on a sea adventure...’
