Regnum Aetern: Dual Rebirth
Chapter 192: Evangeline’s team recruitment mission (1)Within the grand library of the academy city, Evangeline sat across from Adrian, quietly waiting for him to finish reading the information about the assignment missions.
Right after her lecture ended, Evangeline had come to the library to give Adrian the piece of paper Ravian had given her through Hazel.
Adrian soon finished reading and folded back the piece of paper. There was a look of contemplation on his face.
Evangeline waited for him to digest the information. But after a while, she was simply unable to contain her curiosity and asked.
"Adi, which category of mission are you going to choose?"
"Hmm..." he pondered for a bit. "I would obviously choose the quest missions. The academy-assigned missions aren’t bad, but the fact that I can’t choose the mission I take on makes them undesirable for me. I would’ve otherwise chosen academy-assigned missions, since I wish to attempt my mission alone. But since I am at Phase Three, I can take on quest missions alone too. So there is no merit in choosing the first category mission."
Evangeline tilted her head.
"Taking on the mission alone? Aren’t we going to take on the mission together?"
This was somewhat out of the blue. She had initially thought that the three of them were going to take on the mission together as a team. But Ravian was unable to join them since he had to join the crown prince’s team, and now Adrian was saying that he would take on his mission alone.
Was she also supposed to take on her mission alone?
Adrian sighed.
"It has nothing to do with you. I just don’t like group activities. The idea that someone else’s incompetence can drag me down as well is extremely hard for me to accept."
"No!" Evangeline suddenly leaned forward and tightly clutched his hand. "Adi, you’re gonna abandon me? I don’t even know many cadets, so how am I supposed to form a team or join an already formed one? Or what? You want me to take on the mission alone too? Adi, how can you be so heartless?"
Adrian looked at her with a frown.
"First, sit back down and release my hand."
Hearing his stern tone, Evangeline couldn’t help but comply. Though she still looked crestfallen.
"Adi..." she whimpered. "You are not gonna leave me alone, right?"
"Fine, have it your way." He let out a tired sigh. "The two of us will form a team and take on the mission together. Are you happy now?"
Her lips slowly curled up into a smile as she nodded energetically.
"Actually, I was thinking..." she hesitated. "How about we take on the island exploration mission—"
"No," Adrian spoke firmly, cutting her off. "Don’t get any strange ideas."
She pursed her lips.
’He didn’t even hear me out...’
No matter how much Evangeline tried to focus on something else, the idea of going on the island exploration mission kept coming back to her time after time. Her mind kept imagining her sailing through the sea on a ship and finding treasure.
She made a pitiful face.
"Adi, please..."
"No."
"Please..."
"No."
"If you don’t listen to me, then you will get wrinkles on your face and will turn into an old man."
"..."
"Hey, don’t look at me like that!"
She clenched her fists in frustration.
"Why are you so against the idea?"
"Because what you are proposing is nearly impossible. To choose the island exploration mission, we have to form a team that includes all four of the Phase Three cadets. Leaving the commoner aside, do you think that the daughter of House Mythrien will agree to join your team?"
Evangeline pursed her lips.
She knew that, too.
Since they were both nobles, Evangeline had encountered the girl a few times, attending the same lecture as her. And by now, she had a pretty good idea of her personality.
But still...
"Adi," she spoke with determination. "If I somehow convince them both to join our team, then will you agree?"
Adrian shook his head.
"I won’t."
"Why?" Evangeline furrowed her brow. "I told you that I would convince them. Why are you declining now?"
He replied in his usual dull tone.
"Because there is absolutely no merit in choosing the island exploration mission over the quest mission. Not only that, but there are plenty of demerits too. The biggest demerit is that we will be in greater danger. The academy won’t be there to help us either since we won’t be in the empire. Why should I work harder when there is absolutely no benefit in doing so?"
Evangeline paused.
’Benefit, huh?’
"You’re wrong. There is a huge merit in choosing the island exploration mission."
Adrian raised an eyebrow.
"And that is?"
"It’s the sea!" Evangeline beamed. "You’ll be able to go on a sea adventure!"
"..."
...Adrian kicked her out of the library.
Standing by the door of the grand library, Evangeline had a confused look on her face.
’What did I do? Why did he have to kick me out like that?’
She sighed.
’Doesn’t look like it’s gonna be easy to convince him.’
But her eyes still burned with determination. She would have to find a way to convince him somehow. But there were two more people she had to convince besides him. She decided to focus her efforts on them first.
’My sea adventure, wait for me!’

Sitting on the grass in an outdoor training ground, Xion played with the dull grey coin as he observed the cadets training in front of him.
’So boring...’
There wasn’t much for him to learn in this academy. Sitting in lectures and being taught things that he already knew, this was how his days had been passing. There was just nothing happening in life.
Xion glanced at the grey coin in his hand.
’Should I create some chaos for fun?’
[I would advise you against using the Coin of Time too much. You might get into trouble.]
Xion raised an eyebrow at Kiryuzor’s abrupt warning.
’And why is that?’
If there was one thing he couldn’t get in trouble for, it was using this coin. After all, how could he get in trouble if he could go back in time to before the source of trouble even existed?
But the dragon’s reply made him pause.
[I wasn’t sure of it in the beginning, but now I’m confident. There are two more Grade Three Fragment Relics in the academy besides the Coin of Time. There is a chance that those two fragment relics may sense the shift when the Coin of Time is activated.]
The casual smile slowly disappeared from Xion’s face. His attitude suddenly turned extremely serious.
’Kiryuzor, can you locate those two Grade Three fragment relics?’
If what his Eternarch was telling him was true, then things were a lot more serious than he had initially expected.
[Unfortunately, I can’t. After all, I am not a fragment relic. What I am certain about, though, is that you have come close to both of those Grade Three fragment relics at one point in time since you entered this academy city. That is largely the reason I was able to sense their existence in the first place. You must also keep in mind that there is a chance those fragment relics have also sensed the existence of the Coin of Time.]
