Both leaders stared at each other from across the battlefield, their weapons held firmly in their hands as faint grins slowly formed upon their faces. For a brief moment, everything around them seemed to fade away, leaving only the two warriors and the promise of the battle they had both been waiting for.

Then, in an instant, both surged forward.

Cull was the first to attack, lifting his massive axe above his head before bringing it down with enough force to crack the earth beneath his feet. Siar twisted his body aside just before the blade reached him, allowing the enormous weapon to crash against the ground where he had been standing moments earlier.

The impact sent fragments of dirt and stone flying through the air, but Siar was already moving.

He stepped inside Cull’s reach and swung his scythe toward the lizardman’s side, forcing Cull to hurriedly pull his axe back and block the strike. The weapons collided with a deafening clang, the force of the impact making both warriors stagger backward before they immediately charged toward each other once again.

Cull roared as he swung his axe horizontally, aiming directly for Siar’s chest.

Siar ducked beneath the blade and drove his shoulder into Cull’s stomach, forcing the larger warrior backward several steps. Before Cull could regain his balance, Siar spun around and brought the shaft of his scythe crashing against the side of Cull’s head, making him stumble.

Cull gritted his teeth and retaliated with a brutal downward strike.

Siar raised his scythe and caught the axe against its reinforced shaft, but the sheer strength behind Cull’s attack forced him down onto one knee. His claws dug into the earth as he resisted the pressure, his muscles tightening before he suddenly twisted his weapon to the side and redirected the axe.

Cull lost his balance for only a moment.

It was all Siar needed.

Siar stepped forward and struck Cull across the ribs with the blunt side of his scythe, sending the massive lizardman staggering sideways. Cull attempted to retaliate, but Siar followed with another strike, then another, each attack arriving before Cull could properly recover.

The battlefield echoed with the repeated clashes of steel as Cull desperately defended himself.

His massive axe, once an overwhelming weapon capable of forcing entire formations backward, had become almost useless against Siar’s relentless movements. Every time Cull attempted to create distance, Siar closed the gap, forcing him to defend from one direction before attacking from another.

Finally, Siar slipped past another desperate swing and struck Cull directly across the legs.

Cull’s balance disappeared beneath him.

The massive lizardman crashed onto the ground with a heavy thud, his axe slipping from his grasp and landing several feet away. Siar stood above him, breathing heavily as he pointed the edge of his scythe toward Cull’s throat.

Cull remained on the ground for several moments before slowly lifting his head.

A grin appeared across his face. "You really think this is over?"

Cull paused for a moment, his eyes suddenly filled with an unfamiliar confidence.

"Unleash!"

His voice thundered across the battlefield, loud enough for both armies to hear.

Siar’s expression immediately changed.

He glanced around in confusion, unable to understand what Cull’s command was supposed to mean. The surrounding Riversian lizardmen looked equally bewildered, their attention shifting between Cull and their own commander.

"What’s happening? Why are they retreating?"

One of the Riversian soldiers asked the question in confusion as the Forestian forces suddenly began pulling away from the battlefield.

Siar narrowed his eyes as he watched them retreat.

Then the sky began to glow.

A brilliant orange light appeared above the battlefield, rapidly spreading across the clouds until the entire sky seemed to burn. Moments later, several blazing objects descended from above, trailing enormous streams of fire behind them.

At first, the Riversian soldiers assumed they were nothing more than burning arrows.

Many immediately raised their shields, preparing to protect themselves from the incoming projectiles.

Then the first flaming object struck the ground.

BOOM!

The earth violently erupted beneath the impact, throwing soil, stones, and burning debris into the air as a shockwave tore through the surrounding soldiers. The shields that had been raised moments earlier did almost nothing to protect them from the sheer force of the explosion.

BOOM!

BOOM!

The sky became a rain of fire.

Explosions erupted throughout the battlefield, tearing apart formations and sending soldiers scrambling in every direction. The once-organized Riversian army descended into chaos as warriors desperately searched for anything capable of protecting them from the destruction falling from above.

Siar slowly turned his head toward Cull.

The Forestian commander was still lying on the ground, yet a satisfied smirk had appeared across his face.

"What scheme did you prepare?"

Siar’s voice was filled with anger as he tightened his grip around his scythe.

Cull merely chuckled. "Nothing."

He looked toward the burning sky.

"It’s like God gave us power."

Siar’s expression darkened instantly.

He stepped forward and grabbed Cull by the head before repeatedly punching him across the face, his anger overwhelming whatever restraint he had possessed moments earlier. Cull attempted to laugh through the blows, but Siar finally released him and turned toward the battlefield.

"I think you should worry more about your people."

The battlefield that had previously been under his command had become almost unrecognizable, with soldiers scattering in panic as explosions continued to rain down from the sky. Some Riversian lizardmen desperately tried to maintain their formations, while others simply ran toward anything that could provide them shelter.

Siar’s eyes widened.

He immediately raised his scythe and shouted at the top of his lungs.

"HIDE BEHIND THE PLIUM AND XILUM!"

His command thundered across the battlefield.

The Riversian soldiers immediately began rushing toward their massive mounts, using the enormous bodies of the Plium and Xilum as makeshift protection from the falling flames. Above them, the burning projectiles continued descending from the heavens, turning the battlefield into a storm of fire and destruction.
