Reincarnated As A Lion In Another World

Chapter 935: The Virtue Of Selfishness

Chapter 935: Chapter 935: The Virtue Of Selfishness

How Melancholic.

Emperor Zain sat at the absolute center of the final stronghold. He was at the very core of the massive sphere of continents, his body protected by the internal chamber that was here.

Normally, this place would be completely dark. But Emperor Zain himself was emitting a colorless light that illuminated his surroundings.

His elderly, humanoid body hovered a few inches above the ground, its antlers tingling with the power of a hundred compressed stars.

His whole body brimmed with power like an active volcano.

And yet, his expression was grim. His heart had fallen, his eyes had lost the desire to continue.

It wasn’t fair, really.

He was overwhelmed to the brink of depression.

*Sigh!*

Emperor Zain sighed and swept his sleeved hands to his front from behind him. Now wasn’t the time to put his hands at his back and stand like a boss.

Was he even a boss at this point? Not when all his leverage had been systematically crumbled in front of him.

His dragons, all the high-level officials, had died.

He didn’t know what the lions did with the Heavenly Beacons that they gained but they seemed to have been taking it away.

But the Portals the lions were using to enter Draconic Heaven were different from a heavenly gate, Emperor Zain had noticed.

But he sighed again to himself, because all that thought didn’t matter at all.

The Supreme Dragon was dead.

The only Supreme Level Immortal that the Creation Dragons were relying on to fight back had been killed.

Not everyone knew how it had happened but Emperor Zain knew. After all, he was connected in some fashion to every dragon, including the stronger ones.

More so, he was able to use his Law of Creation to create functioning eyes on the body of anyone as long as he had Conquering Essence inside them.

Through many variations and operations of the Law of Creation, Emperor Zain was able to monitor different angles of his ruinous realm.

It was also with a variation of this method that he had seen the final moments of the Supreme Dragon.

That once proud and cold-looking young man was completely gone. Exposed to the combined brutality of the All-King and Jordan at the same time, the Supreme Dragon had suffered.

His main body had been diced and sliced into multiple pieces. And based on how those individual pieces still seemed to have vitality when Emperor Zain checked, the Supreme Dragon had been cut up in an instant.

Jordan didn’t cut him out piece by piece, he cut the Supreme Dragon with a single hyper-layered slash.

Finally, all that remained was the bloodied severed head of the Supreme Dragon which was impaled from below on one of his many frozen spears.

The frozen spear itself was then jammed into the ground of a random drifting asteroid, set for everyone who encountered it to see the fate of their strongest.

It was deeply upsetting.

As for the Star Maiden, the Primordial Moth. She had escaped with her life intact and a few bad injuries that would definitely heal up in no time.

The fight had been intense and perhaps she might have succeeded without the aid of the Supreme Dragon in killing Jordan easily.

But, Jordan himself was not alone. He had never been alone, even when it appeared as though he was. No lion was ever tried alone these days.

Brooding in the shadow of every lion and lioness was the will of the All-King,. waiting for an excuse to come out and show itself.

Facing Jordan who was absolutely enhanced by the Conqueror’s Mode Avatar technique, the Primordial Moth was nearly overpowered.

Jordan beat her back with every inch he crossed. Every swing of his claws caused cracks to appear on her sword. Every punch caused her wings to go numb and her antennae to go blind.

Alas, she had to escape if she wanted to live to redeem her salvation.

The reason why she had even come to Draconic Heaven was not to ally with the Creation Dragons or the Felines.

It was to find a way to enter the Alphaverse and kill the All-King.

Easier said than done.

One could see now that some things were just hopeless wishful thinking.

It was entirely possible that if she had somehow managed to enter the Alphaverse without anyone’s permission, she would have probably died a gruesome death.

The battle was eye-opening.

A real Supreme Level Immortal Primordial entity was beating back and she did not even get to meet the All-King who she was vastly stronger than.

Once again, how sad.

And speaking of the Felines, they had all gone.

The Patriarch, Zayna, and the many other leaders of the Feline Council should have joined the war.

They should have at the very least shown some effort.

But they didn’t.

Instead, they had all disappeared.

Seth’s disappearance was unexpected but it had been accepted. Besides, the Patriarch and his cronies of Feline political leaders had been present when Seth disappeared and even they had been looking for Seth.

But after a while, even they started to disappear from Emperor Zain’s telepathic channels.

All of them abandoned him when he needed them the most. He should have known.

Emperor Zain mocked himself, what did he think? That they would all band together like a group of heroes to defeat the villain?

That would have been under the assumption that they were even heroes in the first place.

After all, the literal dictionary definition for a hero was someone willing to sacrifice himself or herself for the sake of others’ well-being.

With that exact definition, none of the big players in the universe could be considered heroes. They never were.

Only on rare occasions do they put others before themselves.

Normally, the best way to be heroic was for one person, gripped bare by the aggravating desire to die for his or her children, to actually do it.

After all, that fathers would die for their children was no mistake. Just a biological impulse to keep the legacy alive.

Altruism, some called it.

For those who have become intelligent enough to do away with those pesky primitive instincts, utter selfishness was all they had left.

And it was good.

The All-King was selfish, his consorts were selfish, all the kings were selfish, the Patriarch was selfish, the other Feline leaders were selfish, even Emperor Zain was selfish.

Everyone was a villain. So technically, there was no moral high ground for anyone as they were ultimately still fighting for themselves.

But who would they tell?

Why would they even tell anyone? It is to the benefit of the selfish that the selfless do not know their true nature.

For that is the easiest, yet most complex, form of manipulation any intelligent being could perform.

So easy that even the young offspring could do it.

And yet, so complex that it has birthed organized religions, organized crimes, civilizations, laws, constitutions, and dynasties.

It was such manipulation of the selfish that created all alliances.

Emperor Zain realized it now.

His alliance with lions to defeat Ibadon, and his alliance with the Felines to defeat the lions.

All of that was a stupid play and was completely unnecessary as the other parties had no need for it.

Emperor Zain had been of the thought that he may have been the most selfish person around in any alliance.

After all, he saw the sacrifice of his disciple, Victoria, as a serious burden to bear.

Unbeknownst to him, all of that was just moronic expressions of his own ego.

In reality, he was the most selfless among his allies. He was only able to keep his crown and power for so long because of his individual power which was the most crucial element in anything.

If Emperor Zain were to look back at his life, from the very moment he could understand himself, to this final moment where he was positioned, he would see something dark and fascinating.

He would see that one of the most serious reasons why he was going to lose was that he was not selfish enough.

He was selfish, sure. But it wasn’t enough.

If he was truly selfish, he wouldn’t have risked the retaliation of the lions and would have just paid the All-King what he wanted.

Everyone would be happy and he would continue to be the Emperor, albeit under the All-King.

Alas, now was not the time to regret...

"EMPEROR ZAIN!" A loud roar shook the inner walls of Emperor Zain’s final sanctum.

Hearing the first call, Emperor Zain straightened his spine. His eyebrows furrowed into a determined frown.

He shook his hands beside him, freeing up his muscles as his whole body began to expand.

As his eyes took on that reptilian glint of a Creation Dragon, his gaze was shattered. The dim world of the place he was inhabiting was destroyed.

The massive lion head of the All-King smashed through the walls. A wide open maw filled with terrifyingly long and sharp golden fangs was presented to Emperor Zain, closing in to tear him to pieces.
