Reincarnated as a Lizard

Setting off to find the group of struggling adventurers trapped somewhere on the ninth floor of the dungeon, it didn’t take him long to reach the field of magical flames.

"Who in the world lit a fire in a place with those flammable things!? Ugh, I think I know where this little group of juniors ended up..." And to say the senior adventurer who had come to save them was annoyed would be an understatement. Knowing from a simple glance what had happened to these juniors of his, as it wasn’t that difficult to guess after noticing the few still stable cave entrances leading underground from above.

Not lingering around above the magical flames for long, as he dove directly down into the flames with no hesitation. Mobilizing his vast mana to form a thin yet impenetrable barrier between himself and the deadly magical flames.

Draining as this kind of defensive measure was, he wasn’t planning on playing around inside the magical flames and soon enough reached the intact cave entrance. Finding himself inside the cave tunnel network connected to the underground world the dungeon core had constructed for itself to try and keep itself safe from a certain necromancer who had been eyeing it not that long ago.

"Really wish I learnt one of those earth sensing spells, would make navigating this kind of place far easier..." And along with another complaint, the senior adventurer soon found himself flying out through the entrance leading to the top of one of the mountain-shaped pillars holding up the underground world.

"Oh? Looks like the dungeon core felt threatened by those fellows from the corpse herding club. Did one of those floating skeletons show up?" Much like the adventurers guarding the exit, the senior adventurer also realized that the dungeon core had decided to hide away underground out of fear.

Although, different from them, who already knew about the strength of the one from the Eternal Life Sanctum that had targeted the dungeon core, the senior adventurer had no idea about the strength of the necromancer from the Eternal Life Sanctum and could only guess that it was a lich that had personally made a move.

After all, the dungeon core had a guardian surpassing the SS Rank guarding it from what he could tell. Dealing with this kind of enemy was only possible for those liches or some of the especially powerful crypt guardians who found another path forward that didn’t involve them becoming floating skeletons.

Even then, the senior adventurer didn’t show the slightest bit of fear at this realization and instead became somewhat excited at the prospect of running into one of the liches from the Eternal Life Sanctum. Showing a clear example of why those liches hid away to the best of their abilities, as within the Adventurers Guild, there were those who didn’t fear them and were more than happy to hunt them down.

Of course, the happiness in question not coming from hunting the liches in question down, but the rewards associated with killing one of those liches. The reward in question materializes not through the Adventurers Guild itself, but instead through a mission established by the Holy Light Church hundreds of years ago to encourage the stronger adventurers to hunt down these liches.

Thud~! Thud~! Thud~!

And while his thoughts were elsewhere, a loud sound of something heavy moving up the mountain could suddenly be heard, as the dungeon guardian construct emerged within the darkness. Charging towards the newly arrived senior adventurer without the slightest bit of hesitation.

"Ah?"

BAAANG-!

Catching the adventurer in question somewhat off guard, as the mana barrier shielding his body trembled violently from the impact as he was knocked flying for a hundred meters before stabilizing himself midair. Turning to look at the dungeon guardian construct with some surprise.

"This was unexpected, to think the dungeon guardian construct reached this level for a dungeon that only has nine floors. Not to mention, one that has developed in a unique direction. This is already comparable to some weaker 11 floor or even 12 floor dungeons." Voicing his surprise at what had just happened and the strength of the dungeon guardian construct even as it leapt into the air to strike him again, the senior adventurer didn’t show the slightest bit of fear.

"Void Chain"

Uttering a single sentence while making a small movement with his left hand-

And before the dungeon guardian construct could reach him a second time, countless chains shot out from the space around the dungeon guardian construct. Snaking their way around the limbs of the golem before firmly binding the close to a dozen meter tall golem in midair only a hairs length away from the senior adventurer.

"As much as I would love to play with you, guild regulations forbid me from destroying a dungeon guardian construct, as it will compromise dungeon core safety. So, you are in luck. Getting out scot-free~" Chuckling to himself as he said this while looking at the golem struggling to try and break the chains that had already start cracking under the immense strain, the senior adventurer didn’t bother wasting any more time with the dungeon guardian construct and flew off.

Knowing that it wouldn’t be able to trace him after it broke free. Not that it would have mattered much even if it could track him, as the general purpose of a dungeon guardian construct was in the name, to guard the dungeon- or rather dungeon core. It wouldn’t leave beyond a certain range of the dungeon core, as this would mean endangering the dungeon core it existed to protect.

The only reason it had attacked him was because he had somehow ended up close to the dungeon core the second he entered the underground world, a potential intentional design from the dungeon core so it would be able to deal with any potential threats immediately.

But as much as he wanted to help the guild reevaluate the potential of this dungeon core, he first had to find those adventurers trapped down here along with the necromancer behind the recent chaos.
