Reincarnated as a Lizard

Chapter 574: Trip and Fall~

Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!

"What was that!?"

"The magical traps behind the bathhouse were triggered by something!"

"Don’t tell me... Another swarm of these mole gnolls rushing over to assist their companions?"

"I really hope it isn’t. After all, the bathhouse stands in the way and will undoubtedly be leveled by the time those annoying pests get anywhere close to us..."

As the countless magical traps were triggered by the attack from the greater bath spirit’s water wave used to sweep up the necromancer and her bone construct, the group of adventurers, who had been busy dealing with the mole gnolls swarming them from the front, found their attention being drawn towards the backside of the bathhouse where the loud explosions had occurred.

Unfortunately for them, though they could hear the loud explosions and even see the lights of said explosions erupting behind the bathhouse, the bathhouse itself was blocking their view. Making it impossible for them to see what was happening without moving around the side of the bathhouse where the backside would be more visible.

However, given the current deadly struggle they found themselves in, they didn’t exactly have the time to go check on the situation behind the bathhouse and could only silently pray that whatever monster had triggered those magical traps died or was scared away-

Boom! Boom! Boom!

But with the loud explosions showing no signs of stopping and instead only continuing to erupt with increasing frequency, it became clear that the one triggering the traps wasn’t retreating. On the contrary, the loud explosions along with splashes of water flying into the air getting illuminated by the explosions of the magical traps made it clear that whatever had first triggered those magical traps had ended up in a battle with local bath spirits- or maybe more realistically, the bath water elemental.

After all, though the bath spirits were fully capable of using water magic, their water magic wasn’t exactly powerful by any means and carried little to no offensive power. Only the bath water elemental was powerful enough to fight any of the monsters lurking within the dark underground forest and even held a significant advantage in any battle it joined because of its physical immunity that rendered most monsters incapable of dealing any real damage to it.

Still, the increasingly loud battle taking place behind the bathhouse made it clear that the enemy that the local guardians of the bathhouse found themselves facing off against was far from easy to deal with.

Not that they had any time to worry about the struggle playing out behind the bathhouse, as the mole gnolls rushing towards them filled with killing intent and not the slightest bit of fear were becoming increasingly difficult to deal with. Not because the mole gnolls rushing towards them were becoming stronger, but instead because the number of mole gnolls present was slowly growing over time...

"Curse this damnable spirit! How unlucky can I get!?" And at the same time the group of adventurers found themselves starting to struggle in the face of the increasingly large number of mole gnolls pouncing towards them filled with killing intent and no fear of death, a rather unfortunate necromancer found herself cursing out loud as greater bath spirit before her manipulated water magic with such skill that it left her bruised and bloody.

Even with her and her bone construct working together, the greater bath spirit was simply far beyond anything they could deal with, as outside of it being immune to physical damage, it also had a certain degree of magic resistance. Making it one of the worst enemies to face off against outside of a few specialized rare classes focused on things like spirit and soul magic.

But that wasn’t the worst of it, the worst part was the fact that the exit leading out of the dungeon had become clearly visible to her through the hole in the outer wall of the bathhouse and she had no way to get to it with the greater bath spirit blocking the path.

Part of her did start considering boosting her bone construct back up to its previous strength before it had suffered the injuries that had reduced its strength, but these thoughts were quickly pushed to the back of her mind after she came to the painful realization that even raising the strength of her bone construct up above the SS Rank again wouldn’t be enough for her to force her way past the greater bath spirit.

The simple reason behind this, was the fact that the greater bath spirit was immune to physical damage and the bone construct just so happened to specialize in physical damage and wasn’t a magic based undead being like an undead mage or something similar.

In other words, even if she raised the strength of the bone construct, it would be meaningless in the face of an enemy that was immune to physical damage. If anything, the sudden increase in strength would also cause a large disturbance that was bound to draw the attention of the group of adventurers fighting in front of the bathhouse.

Although they shouldn’t have realized it was her fighting behind the bathhouse yet, they definitely would if there was a sudden surge of death energy behind the bathhouse... And... She genuinely feared that they had some kind of way to contact the adventurer she had seen clashing with the lich in control of the undead kingdom.

For this reason, even as she found herself struggling to hold on in the face of the greater bath spirit, she didn’t dare raise the strength of the bone construct nor did she dare to use any kind of magic that would draw upon too much death energy. Fearful that might get noticed by the adventurers as well.

In the end, this placed her in a rather awkward position where she could neither advance nor retreat in the face of the greater bath spirit. Instead, she could only endlessly move back and forth with the greater bath spirit without making any progress.

Worse yet, this kind of drawn-out battle was slowly forcing her away from the hole she had created in the outer wall of the bathhouse, causing her to drift towards the edge of the backside of the bathhouse... And being forced past the edge of the bathhouse would mean she had no way to hide herself from the group of adventurers fighting up front.

No matter how she looked at it, there was no way out of her current situation.

Charging forward was impossible with the greater bath spirit blocking the path. Boosting the strength of the bone construct wouldn’t do anything and waiting would get her noticed and ultimately ganged up on by those adventurers.

A complete dead end with no good choice about what to do next. Ultimately leading to her not making a choice and instead just finding herself clashing with the greater bath spirit as she was forced closer to the edge of the bathhouse’s backside where she would be easily spotted by those adventurers-

RUUUUMBLE-!

THUD-!

But, as she felt her hope of getting out of the dungeon slowly vanishing in the face of the seemingly immortal greater bath spirit, a loud rumbling sound suddenly echoed out from the distance and before she knew it, something massive landed next to the bathhouse.

Something large enough that the entire bathhouse shook violently and part of the already damaged bathhouse directly collapsed on the spot from the trembling ground.

"Dungeon Guardian Construct..." Gazing up at the large golem that had just landed in front of the bathhouse, likely drawn over by the large commotion, the necromancer found herself silently swallowing with a clear look of fear upon seeing this towering golem that had clearly become far stronger compared to the last time she had seen it.

However, before she even had time to turn tail and try to run away from the dungeon guardian construct that had already turned to gaze down towards her filled with killing intent upon spotting her, the greater bath spirit that had been clashing with her so far sprang into action.

WHOOOSH-!

Surging up towards the dungeon guardian construct with a far deeper killing intent compared to before, as it completely ignored her and instead focused all its attention of the massive golem that had just collapsed a large portion of the bathhouse with its arrival. Turning it into a far greater threat compared to her...

BANG!

Caught completely off guard by the enraged greater bath spirit, the dungeon guardian construct didn’t have any time to react as it was struck directly by the enraged greater bath spirit with such force that it began stumbling backwards before tripping on a hole in the ground that had been dug out by one of the adventurers trying to get to the mole gnolls hiding underground, causing the massive dungeon guardian construct to fall. Heading directly towards the main battlefield between the group of adventurers and the mole gnolls...
