With all side joining together at the last second to deal with the escaping necromancer flying headfirst towards the exit leading out of the dungeon, it was inevitable that one of them ended up getting a bright idea that ended up going horribly wrong...
Thud~
"Huh? Wai- what are you doing!? You damned earth eating mole!"
And in this case, the one who had such an idea happened to be one of the mole gnolls, who jumped out of the ground and directly used one of the adventurers as a springboard to fly towards the necromancer about to successfully escape from the dungeon through the exit. The flying speed of the little mole gnoll being just enough to reach the necromancer before she could escape, but... What came after was to be expected, as the mole gnoll ended up slamming headfirst into a barrier that had been conjured up by his target. Sending him flying backwards towards the group charging over behind him.
Bang-!
Following which, the little mole gnoll slammed directly into one of the adventurers who couldn’t react in time and ended up being knocked backwards into the greater bath spirit that then collided with the dungeon guardian construct. Sending the unfortunate golem tumbling once again. Forcing the adventurers and mole gnolls nearby to scatter to avoid the fate of being crushed.
The entire situation descended into chaos as everyone who had been chasing after the necromancer ended up crashing into one another during the chaos. Ending with every single one of them on the floor while the necromancer in question silently slipped away during the chaos. Unaware of the chaos her simple barrier spell had ended up causing when it sent that mole gnoll flying backwards before it could reach her.
"DAMNIT! These mole gnolls are truly the bane of every adventurer! How come they can sabotage their teammates so smoothly!?" By the time everyone got back on their feet and saw the necromancer already missing, one of the adventurers couldn’t stop himself from cursing out loud before turning towards the nearby mole gnolls filled with killing intent.
He wasn’t the only one, as the rest of the adventurers were similarly staring towards the mole gnolls filled with killing intent after the brilliant display from one of their companions. The only reason they didn’t jump forward to attack them and resume the earlier battle having to do with the dungeon guardian construct that was still present.
Although the dungeon guardian construct hadn’t attacked them yet, they understood that it would only be a matter of time before they turned into the new targets of this powerful golem in charge of guarding the dungeon core.
After all, though they hadn’t targeted the dungeon core itself, they were still very much seen as enemies by the dungeon core and the different monsters within the dungeon. The only reason they had been able to work together for a short time had to do with the fact that this dungeon guardian construct viewed the escaping necromancer as a far greater threat than them.
Now that the threat in question was gone, it was only a given that the dungeon guardian construct would target them. For this reason, they had to be prepared to fend off this terrifyingly powerful dungeon guardian construct that had only grown stronger compared to the last time they had seen it clashing with the mist serpent and the bone construct.
Of course, they didn’t need to hold it back forever. Only long enough that their senior had time to show up and help them deal with this powerful opponent...
Whoosh-!
But just as the dungeon guardian construct looked like it was about to attack them, a loud sound of wind rushing through echoed out in the ears of everyone present before a figure emerged hovering above the devastated battlefield. Glancing down towards the chaos below like a god overlooking its subjects.
Ruuumble~
And seeing this figure, the dungeon guardian construct that had been about to attack the group of adventurers froze for a brief second before quickly turning around to leave while the mole gnolls seemingly realized the danger of the situation and quickly scrambled to get away before they ended up getting reduced to ash by this clearly terrifying being who had just arrived.
"He, as expected, the little golem and those small monsters know when to retreat." Descending from the sky while glancing in the direction of the retreating monsters, the figure from above, the senior adventurer who had ended up clashing with the newly minted lich of the undead kingdom born on the ninth floor of the swirling sands dungeon, chuckled disdainfully to himself before shifting his attention towards the exhausted group of adventurers. "So, what happened here? What about the necromancer?" Asking a simple question that instantly caused the group of relived adventurers to freeze on the spot as they realized the necromancer in question had just escaped through the exit behind them.
"That... The necromancer, she-"
"Escaped? I could guess that much from the way you are acting. Don’t worry, it doesn’t matter."
"S-sorry? W-what do you mean? Won’t the Eternal Life Sanctum launch an attack to try and seize the swirling sands dungeon after they learn about the presence of an undead kingdom inside the dungeon? Although the guild should already be aware of the situation by now, it will still take time to properly mobilize the required resources to build up this place to be capable of resisting against the Eternal Life Sanctum..." Hearing the seemingly carless words of the senior adventurer, the leader of the adventurer group couldn’t help voicing his thoughts out loud while looking towards the seemingly careless senior with a somewhat doubtful look on his face.
"Oh? That’s what you’re worried about? Haha, no need to worry, I wanted that little necromancer to escape in the first place. After all, if I truly wanted to seal off all possible escapes, I could have simply helped guard the exit myself while waiting for reinforcements to show up to fully seal off any potential escape path. Even if she surpassed the SS Rank within that time, it wouldn’t matter." Responding to the leader’s doubt, the senior smiled happily as he explained himself. "From the beginning, what I want from that little necromancer is for her to go back and inform those liches about the situation. Only then would those annoying piles of bones leave their nest."
"Huh? S-senior, are you... Planning to kill those liches from the Eternal Life Sanctum!?" Realizing what the senior before him was implying with his words, the leader along with the rest of the adventurers’ present couldn’t help silently swallowing as a clear look of shock could be seen on all their faces.
After all, this was the Liches of the Eternal Life Sanctum, ancient beings who were considered being that even those with strength above the SS Rank feared.
To have someone say they intended to hunt them down- and not just one of them at that, something that was terrifying to say the least.
But then again, as the group remembered who the person before them was, they felt this wasn’t too crazy. After all, the senior before them was someone who had indeed done this in the past. Killing one of those seemingly unkillable liches of the Eternal Life Sanctum.
From the looks of things, the senior before them had been eyeing those liches in charge of the Eternal Life Sanctum from the start and had been planning on allowing the necromancer to escape no matter what happened. The only reason why they hadn’t been informed should be to make everything seem believable.
Thinking about it this way, the mole gnoll from earlier that had suddenly thrown everything into chaos just as they were about to catch up to the escaping necromancer seemed more realistic than it had earlier, as it became clear that this should be something that had been subtly influenced by the senior before them to ensure the necromancer had been able to successfully escape from the dungeon without realizing she was being used by this senior adventurer to lure out the liches within the Eternal Life Sanctum out into the open.
How scary... Is this why the Eternal Life Sanctum and other enemies of the guild are so good at hiding? Did they perhaps end up suffering from the guild in the past and did everything to ensure their hiding abilities were top notch?
Silently thinking this to himself as he felt a shiver of fear run down his spine, the leader of the adventurer group felt happy that he wasn’t enemies with the guild and was instead on the side of the guild. After all, being enemies with someone like the senior before him was simply far too scary.
From start to finish, he wouldn’t even know how he died and might even end up dragging his friends down along with him. Truly... Happy that he was an adventurer and not a necromancer...
