Reincarnated As The Heroes Guide
Chapter 187: Early Clearance "Bonus"?{Wave 4 has been cleared} 80 percent of enemy combatants eliminated.
{New Wave Spawned}
Kalli stared at the message, and then at the Rogues, laying flat on the ground in their winged armour suits. This was not good news, even if they did now have a huge number of additional points to work with in improving the city.
That was going to have to be their plan of attack for the next few hours, as there was no way that they were going to be able to wipe out another entire wave, plus the monsters that were already here, in the next few hours before noon hit.
Presumably, that was when the timer would end, though it might only be ending for the first two waves, which had already been defeated. If the timer extended twelve hours from the time a wave appeared, they could be fighting very nearly all day and night.
The last thing that Kalli needed to do before adjusting the city layout was to find out what the next wave of monsters was going to be.
The cameras showed them the grim truth.
The waves really were getting worse every time that they spawned. They had gone from Gnolls, to Ogres to Giants to Cyclops. Now, instead of finding something larger than Cyclops, they had found something so much worse.
In the distance, right at the edge of gunnery range, the sky was filled with drakes. Smaller kin to the dragons, with only two legs and no forelimbs. But as they circled in the sky, the breathed plumes of flame that made Kalli wonder if it was magic, or some sort of flammable liquid that they produced.
{Finish the Cyclops barriers, then start on the drakes.} Kalli messaged, desperately hoping that the gunner teams would see it and follow her instructions.
They had to protect the ground troops, but they were not going to have long before the drakes arrived.
The flight team was quickly finishing the snack Kalli prepared, and she handed them water to refill the drinking reservoir on their suits. It wasn’t enough time for them to fully recover, but they were at least back near full mana, and they had been able to channel some into their suits.
Every minute counted, so the more that they could recharge, the longer they could face off against fire breathing flying lizards.
That was not something that Kalli had on their bingo card for the day.
The guns were still trained on the Cyclops forces, which were nearly all eliminated now. But a nagging sense of dread told Kalli that all might not be well in the world.
Wave 3 was down, that was the flying monsters and the first group of Giants, she assumed. Then wave four would have been the hyena headed men, and the excess magma corrupted monsters. Now, they had almost wiped out the Cyclops forces that had arrived as wave five.
There were remnants of everything but the flying forces left on the battlefield, as those had either all been defeated, or they had retreated from the area.
And now with new flying monsters, they had to deal with attacks from every direction.
But if they took out a few more of the Cyclops, they were going to trigger wave 7.
If they didn’t take out the last of the Cyclops forces, they were going to get crushed on the walls.
There was no way to win with this situation, it was only going to get more ugly as they went. But there wasn’t any other choice. They had to keep the monsters out of the city.
"Boss, the Drakes are closing too fast! The gunners say they need to swap targets!" A runner shouted.
"Do it! The warriors can deal with the Cyclops barriers on their own, and the flying team will be back in action soon. We can’t have drakes right on top of us."
The runner took off as Kalli sent an updated message to the gunners.
Not that they needed it, everyone knew that getting roasted alive by mythical beasts was not a good way to go.
But now that the cyclops forces were so close, they had to deal with the Pulse Cannons, and those were slowly shattering the barriers on their own, without the Air Defence Batteries.
That seemed sustainable, so Kalli made ten more of the trucks, and had the runners call over some of the newly awakened level 1 heroes. They might not have gear to regenerate mana faster, but they had all just gotten a wave completion as heroes, and that was ten points, an Epic Grade box, and apparently over a level of experience.
Most of them were now level two, but a few of them, the mages who had the most mana for their air defence gunnery turns, had been awarded level 3 with an extra thousand kills.
They were levelling fast with the trials, but it was not without risks.
"Take the trucks, have everyone work together to channel mana to the guns. Five per vehicle, four in the cabs, one on the gun. Doesn’t matter who goes where, but if one of you has rifle skills, put them on the gun," she ordered.
"Got it boss. We’ll keep the walls clear."
Nobody needed to be reminded of the price to pay if they did not. There were tens of thousands of civilians in town who couldn’t do anything against the monster hordes.
Watching the trucks race off as teams returned to the Hall of Heroes to turn in quests gave the flying team a bit of hope, and when the alert came that the drakes were within 3 kilometres, they all took to the skies, eager to remove the threat.
Only, they quickly realized that they had to deal with the ground forces instead, as trying to fight the drakes put them in the line of fire of the Air Defence guns, and those explosions were too dangerous.
The ground forces wouldn’t complain.
