Within an hour of the end of the wave, a new development rocked the calculations of wealth that the heroes had been doing.
In the distance, the first of the bodies were beginning to vanish, and the ground which had been churned by artillery fire began to level itself. The world was returning to what it was before the start of the trial, and Kalli had to double-check that her new [Terraforming] skill was not active.
It was not. But the leftover corpses were all disappearing, leaving only empty land.
In most cases, that would have been a good thing, as too many bodies would poison the land, and leave everything unable to serve any sort of productive purpose.
But today, they wanted all those corpses for materials and System Points.
That vanishing act caused a rush to collect everything that they could, with the heroes running back and forth, loading trucks and makeshift trailers with everything that looked like it might be valuable.
As they had hoped, the armour on the bodies transformed into raw materials when they processed the corpses. That left them more than enough to work with in the shops, and now that they had advanced tools, including 3D printers and CNC lathes in the factories assigned to their System Skilled workers, they had hope that they could start to rebuild much of the technology that had been feared lost.
Not by relying on the store and System Points, but because Marimgar could actually produce it on their own, and repair what they had.
That was one of the great advantages of these advanced workshops.
Not just at a Level 1 civilization state, but advanced once by Kalli, to burn through some of her excess points.
As for the Coordinator, she was actually having a good day for once.
The new [Robot Assistant] skill that the System had granted her created an unconvincing copy of herself that could actually sell items to the heroes. So, she no longer had to stand at the counter.
She had an android and a statue to do the majority of the customer service work.
Now, she could focus on more important parts, like the fact that her storage realm was getting full, and that they had absolutely zero distribution network in place to get the shops the raw materials that they needed.
They hadn’t even set up a proper schedule for picking up the raw cloth from the textile mill, and the heroes operating it had simply been filling their storage until someone needed it.
There had been so much going on that not much had been produced, but there were a lot of old tuber plants piled up waiting to be processed. The level 0 workers had been dutifully harvesting them as they were deemed ripe, and adding the tubers to the underground warehouse.
That was Kalli’s next order of business for the afternoon, now that all the monsters appeared to be gone.
Someone needed to eat all those tubers.
The first message she sent was to the Captains of the Arks that had parked in the base.
{Gentlemen, if it suits you, I would like to meet in the main meeting room of the Academy this afternoon at 5. I have resources to distribute to your Arks, and as you have no doubt noticed, I have added a substantial amount of housing to Marimgar.
Enough that many of your occupants can move into long-term housing with significantly more space than the rooms they currently occupy.
As you are closest, you have first claim to the new housing space. However, we will not be allowing space to be under utilized. No spare rooms in apartment assignments at this time.}
It was better to get that out of the way first, so that people didn’t get notions of planning for family expansion that would lead to them demanding extra rooms. While she would like to think that people would be more reasonable than that, she highly doubted there wouldn’t be anyone who tried.
There was always that person.
The message came back within minutes, from each of the Captains at nearly the same time.
{We will meet you soon. We also look forward to the resource allocation, as we have heard from our heroes that the production capacity of the city is increasing at a rapid rate.}
That should have been what Kalli expected them to mention first, she realized.
While everyone in the city ate mostly tuber soup and whatever else the chefs whipped up to eat while fighting, the residents on the Arks were still mostly eating nutrient paste, which was somehow even more disgusting than nutrient bars.
The Captains also didn’t wait until the meeting time to come out. They were all out of their ships within the hour, accompanied by an adjutant and a secretary.
"Well, why don’t we start now? We’ll go to the Academy building because they have a more comfortable sitting area than the Hall of Heroes. But there is no good reason not to start now that you’re all here."
They all made their way to the main Academy building, which still looked mostly like it always had. But when they approached, they noticed that the main doors were now decorative, and were actually a sealed airlock door, and not the ornate wooden portal they appeared to be.
The interior of the building also had a few new modern upgrades, but otherwise the same as it always had.
"Man, Marimgar Academy is nice. The Kalkan Royal Academy is a military academy, and it’s not nearly as opulent as this," one of the captains noted.
"True, it’s luxurious. For all the good that it did. But it’s got a great meeting room. The old smoking room of the University’s Gentlemen’s lounge. Don’t worry, I’m told that they integrated it decades ago, so I’m not breaking any rules by entering."
The Captains laughed at the thought that Kalli might actually refrain from using the room simply because it used to be part of the men’s section of the Academy back when social areas were segregated.
She definitely struck them as the sort that would not give a damn about outdated rules.
