{Excess Points Nearing Hard Cap} Convert excess points to upgrades?
Kalli stared at the message for a few seconds, shocked that the System would offer her something that good, instead of simply telling her that she had reached the limit and had to spend all her points or start losing them as the heroes turned in more quests.
There were still a few dozen more heroes in the line, the ones who hadn’t wanted to stand in line the whole time, and had arrived later.
{Excess Points will be converted in 30 minutes.}
{Calculating}
Kalli rushed the heroes through the reward counter, making sure that every quest had been turned in within the next half hour, and mildly regretting that not all the Kalkan Heroes would have managed to turn in their quests yet.
As they were on Arks that did not have a turn in point, they would wait until it was safe to move between the Arks, or until Kalli came to them to allow them to turn in all the quests that they had saved up since the last time that she was there.
That would be an issue for a later date, as Kalli simply couldn’t make it there and get everyone organized in under half an hour.
It took that long just to cross the Ark.
So, Kalli waited out the timer, holding on to all the points that she could. Then, the next message from the System came out.
{Upgrades Randomly Chosen. 482,420 excess Points deducted.}
That was nearly as much as she had spent on the whole city, and it left her with exactly four hundred thousand points, her current cap.
The question was: What changed?
It took a moment for Kalli to realize that they hadn’t actually happened yet, they had simply been chosen, and the System was in one of its processing delays before it took action.
{Upgrades Applied}
{New Skill Gained} [Terraforming] upgrades the land within the territory controlled by the Coordinator
{New Skill Gained} [Robot Assistant] creates 1 robotic assistant within the Hall of Heroes to serve as shopkeeper.
{New Shop Category Added} [Facility Upgrades]
{No additional Skills Available} Converting remaining points into physical attributes
{Strength} +100
{Agility} +100
{Stamina} +100
{Luck} +100
Damn. A hundred points into each of her physical stats? And apparently luck was a physical ability that could be altered? Now that was an increase.
Likely a wasted increase, as she was not a combat class. But still, it was a huge bonus for her, and Kalli wondered if she was even going to be able to make use of the new training ground she had just placed now that her stats were so high.
At least she wouldn’t be an easy person to bully if the heroes started to get out of hand later, but for the most part, her physical attributes were secondary.
Kalli had not been expecting that the whole upgrade would be for her, though.
The logical outcome would have been for it to spend all those points upgrading the city, since city upgrades were what she was good at, and what her entire Class was designed to do.
The first two upgrades did make sense.
Upgrading the area with a skill would give them more arable land to work with, so they weren’t completely reliant upon the greenhouses within the city.
A category of Facility Upgrades was going to be huge for her, she was certain.
She hadn’t looked through it yet, but if she could improve the power plant, the solar panels, and a few other things, like maybe adding armoured windows to the buildings, the whole city could be in a much better place for the fourth trial.
With a bit of luck, she might even be able to add those shields she had been hoping for.
That was all something that she could look into later because right now, she had to spend at least a few points so that she could get herself off the points cap, and give herself room for the quest redemptions that were still coming in from the Arks.
Even if there weren’t a trial going on right now, she was still getting an influx of points from the daily work quests.
When Kalli opened the [Facility Upgrade] tab, she found that it was not the same as the others. It brought up a map of the city and surrounding area, waiting for her to pick a facility.
Out of curiosity, the first one she picked was the Hall of Heroes.
{No Upgrades Available}
Well, that wasn’t surprising. Next, she went to the repair shop that the Tinkers operated.
{Equipment Upgrade} 1000 Points
{Size Upgrade} 250 points. [Note that nearby buildings may interfere with expansion.]
Kalli paid the thousand points to upgrade the equipment, then realized that it wasn’t going to tell her what it had given them, she would have to walk over and check it out for herself.
Or wait for the Tinkers to come to her.
"Coordinator, did you do something to the shop? We just got a whole bunch of new stuff, including an overhead crane, automated repair bays that only take skill and mana, and a bunch of new tools, including one that can make new armour plate out of mana."
That was unexpected.
"You can just make new parts with mana? That’s incredible. I spent a thousand points worth of city rewards to improve your repair shop, since it’s the longest running.
If it’s that good, I’ll do the others. The city needs lots of gear repair shops right now."
The tinkers laughed. "You have no idea. There is so much gear piled up in the shop that I actually feel bad coming over here to see what’s going on. But with our extra workers and the upgrade, we should be able to get through quite a lot of it.
Just do a couple other shops if you have the points. You just finished a huge upgrade to the city, so I don’t know if you have anything left.
It looks great, by the way. Everyone is looking forward to their new digs."
Kalli smiled. "I’m sure they are, and I don’t blame them if they want to move out from the Academy area into the main city. It’s the only spot left that isn’t fully connected, so it’s a bit inconvenient to be right in the middle of the city when all the work is at the edge.
I did get some transports for missions outside the wall, though.
And don’t forget to keep cleaning the city of corpses. I know that there are more of them just waiting to be collected. I definitely don’t want to have Marimgar smelling like rotten monsters for the next week."
