Kalli had already completed the plan that the Professor had given her for the city, with the smaller Arks sitting in what was going to be a large park or future spaceport. But there were still more heroes coming in with a full set of quests.
The number of points that they had received from the third trial so far was absolutely insane.
In fact, it had gotten so out of hand, that she was considering purchasing completely unnecessary items like more flight suits or hovercraft, just to keep the balance from overflowing again.
She couldn’t even think of what she was supposed to be doing next.
The greenhouses had been stocked out of her store, using all sorts of magical plants. Some of those had proven to be questionable choices, as they were rather aggressive. But the Alchemists were excited about most of them.
Just not the raspberry plants with thorns that could tear armour, or plum trees that liked to smack you on the back of the head as you passed by.
The issue was that they no longer had space within the walls to just throw buildings at the excess points problem.
And the points were steadily flowing in from the Ark that had a statue on it, so there wasn’t a whole lot of time to waste before she came up with a solution to her issues.
Finally, Kalli relented and decided that she would simply buy a couple of absolutely ridiculous items that would be great for the heroes, while being so prohibitively expensive that no individual group of them could afford such luxury.
They would be public service sorts of items, she decided.
Something like most people back in her old world could never afford to buy a hover bus, but almost all of them rode one to work every day.
Of course, Marimgar was not so large that it needed that level of public transit. But for the heroes who were going to head out beyond the walls, a group of large transports would make their lives a lot easier.
Sergeant Sanchez already had one advanced APC of his own, as a trial reward.
That was Kalli’s thought for the rest of the fleet, but the fact that one already existed made her worry that they were going to get more of them, to reward the heroes so that they could keep going out and clearing more territory.
That was the primary goal of the trial, to claim as much land as possible for Marimgar.
So, Kalli decided to hold off on those, and try to think of something else that the city needed. She had already gone way overboard with the defensive weapons, and even if the next round of attacks was at this level, Marimgar would be in very little danger of being overrun.
Getting inside the city walls would only increase the danger level for the invaders, since the line of tuber plants just inside the walls was within the laser defence turret range of the towers.
Getting caught by the hostile plants and shot apart by the towers would quickly turn most types of monsters into plant food, without the heroes even lifting a finger.
Was there something cool that she was missing?
If there were more barriers for the buildings, or some better defensive device, she would definitely buy that, even if it burned half a million points. But she couldn’t see anything.
What if it was part of the "Expanded Store Options" skill that she had opted not to get, in favour of the cheaper armour and weapons?
That would mean she went for short-term gains for long-term pain.
Well, there might be another chance, since her Class didn’t have skills. It hadn’t given her the options this time, in lieu of the skills that the others all got. But the {Monster Processing Factory} was a huge addition to the city.
While she considered her options, and the heroes waited, Kalli upgraded spaces for everyone that had a trade skill. Most of them were grouped into one location, as there were only a few of them for each skill. But now they all had workshops, and with the points that she paid, there was hope that the shops would come with all the essential tools.
"Alright, come forward, and I will get you all your quest rewards, then figure out what to do with the city rewards after. It usually gives me 24 hours." Kalli informed the crowd.
Once she started taking in all the quests, the points total skyrocketed again, and Kalli knew that she wasn’t going to last long without needing to buy things.
Given how useful they were, she started with ten new {Augmented Flight Suits} to be handed out later, or kept as spares. Then, she purchased a dozen armoured personnel carriers, with heavy weapons.
That would let them send out over a hundred heroes at a time in air-conditioned comfort.
That was enough to get them started, and to burn through a large portion of the excess points that she had accumulated. All that she had to worry about now was what she was going to do with the rest, and what was going to happen when the third trial completed.
Presumably, they would have four days before it did, as the system had said six waves and a day of rest.
But that didn’t guarantee that it would be the end of the trial, and not just a day off before the third trial started to punish them again.
After a bit of thought, she also stocked a portion of her Storage Realm with spare gear and weapons of the most common types. If they started to suffer heavy damage again, or had another influx of new heroes during the next few weeks, she would have gear on hand so that it wouldn’t be a concern during a crisis.
