Kalli frowned as she realized that they were not being ranked against the other survivors, but against every other force on the planet. And that there was one doing better than they were, even though they had made so much progress during the first half of the third trial.

That really made her wonder how they were being ranked, and if the Titans had some sort of advanced technology as well, or if they were being ranked on their ability to defeat enemies and claim territory.

If that was the case, it was definitely possible that one of the monster Clans would have done better than them.

Kalli smiled as she saw the notice, then frowned as she realized that it was going to make her go look to find out what building got upgraded.

Then, she realized that she was standing in it.

The Hall of Heroes had gone from a welcoming centre for heroes to something much more.

It still had the materials processing room on the main floor, next to the sitting area. But now it also had a more luxurious lounge with a door by her desk, and a larger storage room.

Then, there were stairs leading up to a second level that hadn’t existed before.

Kalli went up to see what it looked like, and found that apparently the Hall of Heroes was also now the Hall of Naps. The upper floor was hotel rooms.

[ Wait ... quests, food, rooms, materials processing. I’m the adventurer’s Guild shop from every fantasy video game ever made. ] Kalli realized.

That was not quite what she was going for in life.

But the System had upgraded her building, so now it was time for her to check and see if it added any more functions, just in case she could do new things. If she could do remote sales, she would be overjoyed.

Unfortunately, there was no such option. No online shopping for the Heroes of Marimgar.

However, there was a lovely new option for her to assign and check all the door codes and security settings for every single building in town without having to go through any additional steps.

That was nice.

However, that would also mean that when someone managed to lock themselves out, or got into a fight with their spouse and was kicked out without their belongings, she would be the one to come to in order to get a new key card.

That realization led to another one.

The System still didn’t call her a "hero" so she didn’t get the other rewards. No three Epic boxes, no bonus supply pack, no item repair token.

Sure, she could purchase all three of them from the store, but that wasn’t the point. She was cheated out of her rewards by a technicality.

On the other hand, the stunned group of new heroes had received the rewards, as apparently arriving in Marimgar five minutes before halftime was enough to count as part of Marimgar’s population for the rewards.

They were all staring curiously at the cubes in front of them, unsure of what to do.

"Just tap them to receive the reward. Three of them will be random, the other two are set rewards. It’s a good start to your life here in Marimgar, as the Epic Grade boxes tend to have extremely valuable items in them.

They’re the top of the line weapons, accessories and armour.

You may also get life-saving trinkets, but there is never anything useless from a Mystery Box. The grade of the box determines the grade of the reward, and anything worth being called Epic is going to be just that."

That was enough of a reassurance for the newly arrived heroes to open all the mystery boxes, but the difference was immediately noticeable to Kalli’s trained eye.

She knew what the others got, and it was far better than this.

For whatever reason, perhaps because they hadn’t done the trials with Marimgar, the Epic Grade items that the new heroes were getting were extremely underwhelming.

Sure, they were epic, but they were basic swords, armour pieces, and other medieval level equipment. Compared to the power armour that Kalli had seen it grant before, these armour drops were entirely too primitive.

The heroes were overjoyed to get them, and Kalli did notice that it gave each of them nearly the same thing. One weapon and two pieces of armour. That was the basics of what they needed, unless Kalli was going to give them bodysuits to match everyone else.

She was, of course.

They could wear their new pieces over the light armoured bodysuit in most cases, and in others, the pieces they got were boots or gloves, so there wouldn’t be any conflict.

"Well, it looks like you’re all getting well set with gear. Now, are any of you a rifleman type of class? If so, I will get you advanced weaponry that can be reloaded with mana. If we had to rely on solid ammunition for everything, we would be in real trouble, but we do still go through a huge amount of it during battles.

Actually, we’ve got a whole smelting operation operating in the city now, just melting down used brass."

Collecting all the shell casings was going to be a never-ending job for someone. But right now, they had mostly kids out with rakes gathering them all so that nobody tripped on them during tomorrow’s battles.

There was no doubt that they would be adding to the pile again, so they had to try to get ahead of the cleanup.

Their four hours of work quest was important, and after all the work that they did, far more of them had reached level 0 than Kalli had expected. But now, they had all the ones from the Arks to keep busy as well, so there was no shortage of crew members roaming around the city looking for work to complete the quests.
