Reincarnated Femboy Vampire, with Max Survivability Stats
Chapter 43: Die AlreadyMalakai slammed his fist into an incoming knight, shattering its core into a thousand pieces and killing it on impact. Spinning on his heel, he formed a long blade out of his shadows, using the sweeping arc to cleave off the heads of twelve knights that were surrounding him.
Knight after knight rushed at him, swinging their weapons, and each one of them was ruthlessly cut down.
But this momentum wouldn’t last forever. Malakai was running dangerously low on essence from his earlier frantic battles in the outer districts, compounded by the exhaustive duel against the replica of Natalie Silver.
Balling his hand into a fist, Malakai slammed it into the ground. The surrounding shadows stirred violently, spiking upward from the stone tiles to impale a massive cluster of charging knights.
"Well, I’m beat. That’s all from me today," Malakai muttered. He looked up at the floating central mechanism and offered a courteous, mock bow. "Cube, I’ll see you in a few days. Until then."
Dissolving into a fluid shadow, he swept up as many fallen essence cores as he could carry and fled the center of the metropolis in a dark flash. Within a few minutes, he darted back toward the location where he had hidden his main pile of harvested cores. However, the city core managed to throw one last attack his way—a final, automated parting gift, one last fuck you. The layout of the streets shifted beneath him, transforming the district right back into an unnavigable maze.
Malakai materialized back into human form, letting out a heavy sigh. "Sigh... well, that’s just rude—"
Ding!
"Seriously?" he muttered, looking up at the ceiling. "Cutting off my scenes, too? You don’t have any guardians left capable of stopping me, so you’re just going to make me spend forever finding my way home."
Malakai chuckled sheepishly at the sheer absurdity of the situation.
Far off in the distance, four shadows crept across the floor, arriving outside the group’s base. They stared silently at Yuki and Camilla, who had decided to abandon their home and move further inward for safety.
The shadows watched them depart before slipping into the house and claiming it as their own. A moment later, their bodies shifted grotesquely, warping into familiar forms.
It had been three long days.
"Sigh... Malakai, where are you? Why haven’t you come back yet?" Camilla asked herself, her voice hollow and thoroughly depressed. "Did you... did you decide to just leave me?"
She pouted, slouching heavily against the wooden table.
Click.
The front door swung open, and Yuki walked into the base, looking like a literal corpse. Camilla turned to look at him, her brow furrowing. "Are you okay?"
"Physically... no," he said, staring blankly ahead. "Mentally... also no. This place completely sucks."
"Tell me about it," Camilla agreed, frowning as she buried her face in her arms.
"I just spent six hours avoiding those stupid knights and scaling the outer walls just to hunt for food," Yuki groaned. "Like, how does the creator of this place expect anyone to live here if there are no farms or wildlife? Ugh, I’m really regretting not listening to Vee. I should have bought a shop feature that sold food instead of stocking up on furniture, clothing, and miscellaneous junk."
"Well, that’s life for you. Let’s prepare to head out and hunt for essence cores," she said, her tone sounding as though she wanted the earth to open up and swallow her whole.
"Can I come?" a soft voice asked.
"No, Vee, you need to stay and rest," Yuki said gently, walking over to her tent. "Plus, those knights will just target you the moment you step outside."
"But it’s been so long," Vee protested, her tone turning dangerously seductive as she looked up at him.
"I know," Yuki said, cupping her face in his hands. "But it’s too dangerous for you out there right now, and your injuries aren’t fully healed yet."
"Hmm, okay..." she murmured. Reaching out, she wrapped her arms around his waist and pulled him closer. "Could you at least stay with me today, and go hunting tomorrow instead?"
"I can’t, Vee. There aren’t as many knights patrolling the perimeter as there were before, so we need to seize this opportunity to harvest as many essence cores as possible. We have to find an effective way out of this city."
"Fine," Vee whispered. Leaning in, she caught his lips in a deep, lingering kiss.
"..., Could you two not do that right in front of me?" Camilla interrupted bitterly, crossing her arms. "I’m a grieving woman here."
"And what exactly are you grieving? Malakai is still alive," Vee countered, looking thoroughly annoyed by the interruption.
"..."
"Nothing," Camilla mumbled under her breath, turning away.
Her pride wouldn’t allow her to confess the truth: that she deeply missed Malakai’s constant teasing and the playful sensation of his tongue. She missed the way he would suddenly glide up behind her, pressing his broad, warm chest directly against her back. She absolutely could not admit that to anyone, especially not to Vee.
"Just call me when you’re actually ready to leave, Yuki. I’ll be waiting outside," Camilla said, abruptly standing up and walking out the front door.
Vee clicked her tongue. "Tsk... what is her problem?"
"Vee, don’t be mean," Yuki chided softly, offering a faint smile. "She just misses Malakai."
*Far away from the main camp, Malakai was slowly navigating the winding, labyrinthine streets. His haul of essence cores had dwindled significantly over the past seventy-two hours; because the city lacked any natural food sources, he had been forced to continuously consume his own hard-earned cores to rapidly recharge his internal essence and sustain his physical form.
Despite the immense damage he had inflicted upon the cube’s automated forces, the central core still managed to occasionally dispatch massive waves of enemies to ambush him. It relied heavily on its remaining Rank 2 paladin templates to do the heavy lifting. Yet, every single ambush failed. Malakai would dismantle them, and the retreating core would spitefully smash any remaining essence cores left on the battlefield before he could harvest them. The city core was trying its absolute hardest to starve him out through attrition, but Malakai kept pushing forward.
Eventually, once he managed to cross over into the threshold of the outer district, the central core ceased its attacks. It realized it was losing far too many resources trying to kill him. For the moment, Malakai was off the hook.
As ’he’ strolled leisurely through the silent, dark streets of the eternal city, his demonic instincts suddenly flared. He could feel a distinct, hidden presence watching him. Every single corner he turned, the chilling aura of a stalker remained locked right behind him.
"..., I know you’re there," ’Malakai’ announced into the quiet street, halting his stride. "It’s best if you just come on out."
Silence stretched over the empty cobblestones.
"...Nothing?"
Thwack!
A massive arrow constructed of pure, dense light magic tore through the air, screaming past Malakai’s ear by a fraction of an inch. It impacted the stone wall directly behind him with a deafening explosion.
Before Malakai could even pinpoint the origin of the trajectory, another two arrows of light streaked past his position. Every single time the radiant projectiles detonated near him, the surrounding ambient shadows violently scattered, forced away by the piercing luminescence.
It was a direct, counter to his shadow abilities. But this wasn’t the signature magic of the Holy Order. No, this was the work of someone else entirely—someone who understood exactly how a shadow spawn’s biology and powers functioned. There were only a select few organizations in the world capable of hard-countering his nature, and the Holy Order didn’t even rank in the top ten.
Reacting instantly, Malakai dissolved into his shadow form. He began moving at incredible speed, darting across the terrain in a frantic, unpredictable zigzag pattern, taking utmost care not to get caught in a direct flash of light. Once his senses firmly locked onto the attacker’s coordinates, he tore himself out of the floorboards, shifting back into his towering demon form.
Channeling the absolute limit of his remaining essence, he manifested hundreds of massive shadow spears in the air above him, hurling them simultaneously toward the hidden sniper.
Like the thundering stampede of warhorses, the barrage obliterated the target area. Spears upon spears rained down in a terrifying bombardment, completely leveling the ancient structures and reducing the pristine street back into a zone of absolute ruin.
As the dust slowly settled, Malakai stood amidst the wreckage, his red eyes scanning the debris for any sign of life. "Are you going to come out now, or are we going to keep playing this tedious game of cat and mouse?"
Tsk.
"Oh? What do we have here?" Malakai chuckled, his eyes narrowing dangerously as a figure stirred in the shadows of the rubble.
"A brute as always, aren’t you, Malakai?" a sharp voice spat.
"Ha. You know me by name? That’s a pleasant surprise."
"Is it?" the hidden figure replied, her voice dripping with pure, unadulterated malice.
"Why don’t you show your face? Maybe then I’ll recognize you."
"And why the hell would I want that? I’m here to execute you, not to have a heartwarming reunion," she hissed, her voice visibly trembling with deep-seated rage. "So do us both a favor and shut that annoying shit-hole you call a mouth."
"Well, that’s just rude," Malakai mused, entirely unbothered by her anger. "Who exactly are you? Because there isn’t a single person on this earth who uses a bow and knows my specific physiological weaknesses."
"Did you not just hear a single word I fucking said?!" she screamed from the ruins. "Shut the hell up!"
"..., If you think you can bait me into turning into a shadow so I’ll rush blindly toward your position, you should throw that thought away. I’m not an idiot," Malakai said.
Reaching into a nearby, half-shattered house, he pulled out a pristine wooden chair and set it right in the middle of the road. He sat down comfortably, crossing his legs and folding his arms, a thoroughly satisfied, smug smile plastered across his face.
"Do us both a favor. Just come on out."
Silence fell over the ruins once more.
"No? Going to keep hiding, I see. Well, suit yourself."
The fierce standoff between Malakai and the unknown assassin wasn’t much of a standoff at all. Malakai lounged comfortably in his chair, using the quiet interlude to slowly regenerate his depleted essence, while the hidden sniper remained completely frozen. She knew that the moment she adjusted her position, her concealment magic would instantly fail since the surrounding buildings were no longer actively regenerating. Furthermore, if she launched another direct attack from a compromised angle, she would likely lose the exchange.
"Damn it, shit, shit, goddamn it! she cursed internally, her mind racing. What the hell do I do now? God... fuck it." "
"I still have the upper hand. I’ll either win right here, or at the very least, do enough permanent damage to guarantee a kill in our next encounter."
Stepping back into the deeper recesses of the rubble, she extended her hand outward. The ambient air began to swirl violently as a dense, golden light solidified, molding into the shape of a tall, heavily armored holy knight wielding a massive broadsword forged from pure light.
"Number One," she commanded sharply. "Do your master proud. Go out there and cut him to ribbons. I’ll cover you with supporting fire."
The summoned construct nodded in robotic agreement, charging out from the ruins at full speed, heading directly for the seated demon.
Seeing the incoming knight of light, Malakai leisurely stood up from his chair. With a flick of his wrist, the darkness condensed into a sharp, composite shadow blade.
"Sigh... back to melee again," Malakai muttered, his smile turning a bit strained. "This place really loves to push my buttons."
Thwack!
Another arrow of light detonated near his flank.
"...And I still have to worry about her. Just great," Malakai sighed, shifting his weight into a combat stance. "Man... I really miss licking Camilla."
