Reincarnated Femboy Vampire, with Max Survivability Stats
Chapter 58: Going Hunting (2)"That is a really stupid and dangerous plan, Yuki!" Nyquella screamed in a full-blown panic.
"It’s a great plan, is what I think!"
"We are surrounded by an army of angry slimes and wild beasts! Why would you do that?!"
"Simple! When the knights come under orders from the Core to investigate the disruption, they’ll end up fighting the monsters and the slimes instead of us."
"..., are you stupid?"
"A little," Yuki responded cheerfully. "But you two think this plan is going to fail because you think it’s an army of fully armed knights versus a bunch of basic slimes, right?"
"YES!" Nyquella and the System interface yelled in unison.
"Well, let me show you why it’s going to work. Here we go," he said, suddenly setting up a full-sized whiteboard right in front of them.
"...Did you just have that on you?"
"No, I just bought it from the store. Why?"
"...Nothing. Continue."
"Alright," Yuki said, tapping the whiteboard with a pointing stick.
Yuki then proceeded to explain his entire tactical plan in painstaking detail. Unfortunately, neither Nyquella nor the System understood a single reference he used, forcing him to dumb it down for them over and over again.
"Oh, come on! Are you two being for real right now?" Yuki groaned. "It’s all about numbers! Slimes release acid—aka their blood—when they take damage. With this many of them, the knights will literally start melting just from killing them!"
"I—"
"Shush! No talking!" Yuki snapped playfully. "There are also Mineral Slimes mixed in there. And some of those bad boys explode when damaged!"
"So your grand plan is to have a bunch of exploding, acid-spitting slimes melt the knights?" Nyquella asked nervously.
"..."
"No! It will keep them busy so we can sneak in, attack the city’s Core, and destroy it! And before you ask—yes, the Core could try to recall them, but that won’t matter. The slimes will already be wreaking utter havoc on the city’s infrastructure and constantly draining its energy reserves."
Yuki paused, tapping the board for emphasis. "We already saw that it had to abandon the outermost districts after losing a massive amount of energy during its fight against Malakai. So, I’m going to do what Malakai did—just way more extreme."
"Then how does the God Tree come into play?" the System chimed in.
"The Core has to be getting its power from somewhere, and I can only think of one thing," Yuki explained. "It’s using the God Tree to harvest essence from the beasts inside the forest, or from mana deposits deep underground."
"Not a bad plan," Nyquella admitted, scratching her neck nervously. "But how exactly are we supposed to get out of here right now?"
"..., no clue! I was planning to wait until the battle started so the monsters and knights would be preoccupied with each other, but... well..."
"..., sorry," she mumbled, sounding genuinely guilty.
"It’s fine. We can either wait it out or make a run for it. What do you want to do?"
"Let’s—"
BANG!!!
Yuki and Nyquella snapped their heads up toward the source of the deafening explosion.
"..."
"Shit!"
They watched in utter horror as the massive artificial skylights illuminating the outer districts began shutting down one by one, crashing into the structures below. A second later, another violent shockwave ripped through the air. The giant life-stones shattered into thousands of glowing fragments, raining down on the surrounding area like falling artillery.
Nyquella and the System slowly turned to stare at Yuki.
"...Yuki?"
"I did not do that," he said immediately.
BANG!!!
"Or that..." he added, staring blankly ahead.
Unbeknownst to Yuki, his reckless actions had triggered a massive domino effect throughout the metropolis.
His interference had inadvertently created the ultimate opening for a terrifying Rank 2 Dragon to launch an attack on the living city. With the majority of the metropolis’s defense knights currently dispatched to contain the chaos in the forest sector, the city Core was forced to divert a catastrophic amount of its remaining energy reserves to slay the dragon—causing structural collapses everywhere.
Ding!
"Oh, hey! My full senses are back!" Yuki said, surprised.
DANG!
Every single remaining light inside the metropolis cut out at once, plunging the entire city into pitch-black darkness.
Nyquella’s perception had returned as well. However, because her new Homunculus body lacked her old shadow spawn night vision, her detection range was severely limited.
"Oh," Yuki said, sounding shocked.
"Oh?! What ’oh’?! What happened?!" Nyquella panicked, immediately drawing her glowing holy bow and summoning her giant Holy Knight to her side.
"This place is surrounded by monsters," Yuki reported. "Like... completely surrounded."
"Is there any way out?!"
"Holy hell!" Yuki suddenly gasped in excitement.
"WHAT?!" Nyquella shrieked, spinning around frantically in the dark. "What did you see?!"
"Oh, nothing bad! My minimap is just back!" Yuki beamed. "Also, keeping that bright glowing bow out in a dark place full of monsters is probably a terrible idea."
"I know that! I just wanted to be able to see!" She immediately dismissed the weapon, plunging them back into darkness.
"Cool... we should get moving. Give me your hand so I don’t get lost."
"...? You mean so I don’t get lost?"
"No, I genuinely suck at directions," Yuki stated with a straight face, reaching out and grabbing her hand tightly.
The two spent the next several hours navigating the chaotic darkness, carefully steering clear of roaming monsters and disoriented defense guards. Of course, Yuki managed to drag out the journey much longer than necessary—because running straight through an active battlefield to snatch exposed essence cores seemed like a fantastic idea that definitely couldn’t end in disaster.
"How on earth did that not fail spectacularly?" the System asked, its digital screen glitching in disbelief.
"Because I am a motherfucking genius," Yuki declared, puffing his chest out proudly. "Now let’s head home. I feel like cooking up something extra special tonight."
Yuki and Nyquella were making their way back to the sanctuary, surrounded by total darkness and the eerie silence of the abandoned city streets. In the distance, the occasional roar of battle or the rumble of collapsing architecture echoed through the air, but the sounds slowly faded the further away they walked.
"Um... Yuki?"
"Hmm?"
"Can I ask you something personal?"
"Mm-hmm."
"...What are you planning to do after all of this is over?" she asked quietly. "Once we finish the Ascension Trial... you don’t actually plan on becoming the Demon King, do you? So what do you actually want?"
"Honestly, I never really thought about it until recently," Yuki replied, letting out a soft, peaceful sigh. "There isn’t anything grand or glorious I want to achieve. I just want to travel and explore this world. In my past life, I always loved visiting new places, meeting different people, and experiencing unique cultures."
He looked up into the dark expanse above them. "I really love mountains and lakes, so I’d like to see the most beautiful ones in this world before my time is up."
Nyquella chuckled softly, though her smile wavered slightly. "Your goal sounds so nice... just living life and being an explorer. Mine was strictly about getting revenge... and well, that failed. Now I feel like I have nothing left to live for. I don’t want to be the old me anymore—no more bioweapon experiments, no more forbidden sorcery... just normal stuff."
Her shoulders slumped as she looked down at her feet. "Gods, I must sound so stupid to you. I’m sorry..."
"No need to be," Yuki said gently. "I was just a regular human before all this, and all I did was slack off and enjoy life—well, as much as I could, anyway. I can’t even imagine how much pain you had to endure as a shadow spawn and a forced scientist. But even if your past was the shittiest pile imaginable... you are completely free from those chains now."
Yuki stopped walking and turned to face her. Reaching out, he looked deeply into her radiant orange eyes.
"You remind me of the moon."
Nyquella blinked, her breath catching in her throat. "The... moon?"
"Yeah," Yuki smiled warmly. "At night, when everything around it is dark and cold, the moon stays up there, lighting up the whole world—even if most people forget to appreciate its glow. And even during the day, when the sun is shining brightly and taking all the credit, the moon is still right there, shining just as fiercely."
He squeezed her hand gently. "So be the moon, Nyquella. Keep shining."
Nyquella let out a sudden laugh at his romantic speech, shaking her head. "Wouldn’t it be way more accurate to say Vee is the moon and I’m the sun?"
"No... you’re way too small to be the sun," Yuki deadpanned. "Vee is bigger, hence she’s the sun. You’re small, hence the moon! Though I see where you’re coming from—Vee’s aesthetic is white and yours is orange. But the sun isn’t actually yellow or red, you know. In reality, the sun is white."
"..., Yuki, I know you can be a little slow sometimes, but the sun is not white."
"It really is!"
"That makes zero scientific sense!"
"Wanna bet?"
"Sure!" Nyquella said confidently. "If I win, you have to let me run a full physical inspection on your body. And if I lose... I’ll be your dedicated personal maid for the rest of my life!"
"..., that doesn’t sound like a fair trade at all."
"Doesn’t matter!" Nyquella said excitedly, summoning the interface. "System! Settle this! What color is the sun?!"
[The sun is red,] the System replied bluntly.
"..."
"..."
"..."
"Hm... Hey, let me talk to you for a second," Yuki said, grabbing the floating System interface and dragging it behind a nearby wall.
"System."
[Yes, Yuki?]
"What the fuck are you doing?! The sun is white!"
[Incorrect. Earth’s sun is indeed white, however, this world’s sun is not.]
"You think I’m buying that bullshit?!" Yuki hissed, glaring directly into the System’s nonexistent soul. "I swear to God, I hope you get a physical body one day. Because the second you do, I am going to make you regret messing with me!"
[Ha! Whatever you say, dipshit. Go back to being a useful short-ass femboy.]
Yuki stared at the System panel, wanting to punch it in its digital face so badly, but knowing it couldn’t feel pain anyway.
"Just you wait," Yuki muttered under his breath, walking back to Nyquella. "I will get my payback..."
