Reincarnated Femboy Vampire, with Max Survivability Stats
Chapter 59: God Damn LizardsYuki and Nyquella continued navigating the dark city streets, keeping on high alert in case anything showed up. Well... Yuki was the one on high alert. Nyquella was practically skipping along holding his hand, looking way too excited for someone who was supposedly just going to inspect him for scientific purposes—at least, that was the lie she was telling herself.
"..., you are a remarkably open pervert," Yuki said, shaking his head in disappointment.
"That I am!" she replied, smiling ear to ear. "I won’t deny it. I am a pervert, and I want to see that cute little body of yours up close!"
"..., is nobody in our group normal? Sigh."
"Well, are you normal then, Yuki? Or are you just like the rest of us?"
Yuki chuckled, giving her a confident smirk. "I simply appreciate beauty at its finest."
"Is that what you tell yourself, huh?" She laughed. "So am I not also just appreciating the beauty of your body?"
"...When you say it like that, it sounds wrong."
[What are you two idiots talking about?] the System interjected, hovering between them. [You’re both perverts. Same for Vee—none of you are normal! Did you already forget what you said to Vee back at the dungeon camp?]
"..., huh. Welp, that’s a lot of lizards," Yuki suddenly blurted out. "Like... a lot of them."
"?"
"What are you mumbling about?" Nyquella asked, confused by his sudden shift in tone.
"Over there," Yuki said, pointing directly into the pitch-black street ahead. "Shoot a light arrow down that alley."
"Okay...?"
Nyquella summoned her golden great bow and loosed a powerful holy arrow down the street.
BANG!
"..."
"..."
"We should start running," Nyquella said, immediately turning on her heel.
[That we should,] the System agreed.
"What the fuck is that thing?!" Yuki said, his face contorting in pure disgust.
Ding!
[DANGER: 34 Acid-Tongue Lizards are approaching at high speed!] the System screen blared, flashing bright red.
Thwack!
Nyquella launched another arrow into the darkness. The projectile illuminated the metropolis walls as it flew before slamming directly into the advancing horde, vaporizing several lizards at once. She quickly summoned her giant Holy Knight, sending it forward to engage the monsters and buy them time to formulate a plan.
"Man, those things go down easily," Yuki said, surprised. "Nyquella, keep firing in that direction every few seconds."
"Right!" she called out, releasing another shot. "Do we have an actual plan of attack?!"
"Yes! You keep firing, and we run once you’re out of mana."
"Won’t they catch up to us at this rate?!" Nyquella asked nervously, turning to face him.
"I’ll just carry you," he said casually.
"Wouldn’t it be better to just fight them head-on?!"
"..., no? They’re acid lizards! Plus, I’m carrying a very big bag on my back right now, and I can’t afford to lose its contents."
"Huh, you’re right, that would—"
Ding!
Ding!
"...Yuki... what are you doing?"
"Huh? Oh, I’m just purchasing some stuff from my store," he said blissfully, scrolling through the floating interface menu. "Ooooo, a Storage Ring on sale! Yep, give me that."
Ding!
[System Lifestyle Store has reached its spending threshold. Upgrading interface to: Special Items Shop.]
"Special Items? I wonder what’s on here..." Yuki clicked the new menu tab and was instantly taken to another page. "Oh, it’s a toy page! ...Oh. It’s a toy page..."
Yuki cleared his throat. "System."
[Yes?]
"How acidic are those lizards, exactly?"
[Their secretions can melt light clothing and irritate the skin, but you have faced far worse.]
"That I have..." Yuki turned to his companion. "Nyquella, I will be right back."
Without another word, Yuki sprinted straight toward the swarm of lizards.
Nyquella stood there in shocked silence, watching her Holy Knight and a completely reckless Yuki tear the acid lizards to pieces. Once the last monster fell, the knight began piling up the carcasses while Yuki effortlessly butchered them on the spot.
By the time Nyquella recovered from her disbelief and jogged down the street to join him, there was nothing left but bloodstains on the pavement—every single lizard had vanished.
"Nyquella! You made it, that’s great to see!" Yuki said, smiling like a cheerful idiot. "Here, a gift for you!"
He tapped his new Storage Ring, dropping twenty Rank 1 cores onto the ground in front of her.
"Umm... thanks?"
"No problem! Absorb them for me, please."
"Okay...?"
She followed his instructions, absorbing the energy cores one by one. As the power flooded her body, she could feel herself getting stronger, but it wasn’t exactly a comforting feeling—mostly because Yuki was staring directly into her soul with a beaming, unhinged smile the entire time.
They spent the next few hours actively hunting down monsters instead of going back to base, purely because Yuki was an idiot and she was too much of a coward to go by herself—even though she had a Holy Knight at her command.
Yuki expertly butchered every creature they killed, converting the raw materials into massive amounts of Store Points.
Nyquella was steadily growing stronger, but her stress levels were skyrocketing with every encounter. Why are there so many monsters down here?! she thought frantically. And why did he suddenly switch from avoiding them to actively hunting them?!
"Um... Yuki?"
"Yes?"
"..., what are you doing? Why are we hunting monsters instead of making our way back home?!"
"You wanted to get stronger, right?"
"Yeah...?"
"Then this is the best time for you to farm essence cores! The monsters down here are either weak and blinded, or strong but extremely slow. The city’s artificial light used to hurt them, so they stayed hidden, and the life-stones prevented them from fighting properly. Now that everything is flipped upside down, it’s a goldmine for us! Besides, the city is about to initiate a cleanse, so I need you to be strong enough to survive it."
Nyquella froze. "What do you mean, cleanse?"
"Well, if I were the living city, I wouldn’t waste time killing every single monster individually—it would cost way too much energy," Yuki reasoned casually. "Before, it could manage them because it was only weakened, but right now it’s fighting for its life. A hard reset is the only way to fix everything."
"How exactly is it going to do that?!"
"Ummm... hold on, let me think..." Yuki tapped his chin. "Hmm... I got it! It will either raise itself off its foundations, slam violently into the ceiling, and keep going until everything underground is squished or badly injured before falling back down... or it will just rip through the mountains and force its way to the surface."
"..."
Nyquella’s eyes went wide. "Oh! Oh no!" she shrieked, falling into a full panic.
She whipped out one of Yuki’s stone throwing knives, dropped to her knees, and frantically began carving complex magical equations directly into the stone street.
"What are you writing?" Yuki asked innocently, walking in a slow circle around her.
"Shit, shit, shit! This is bad!" she screamed.
As fast as she had dropped down, she scrambled back to her feet, grabbed Yuki tightly by the collar, and dragged him into a full-on sprint.
"Nyquella?!"
"Yuki, your theory is spot on!" she panted, her voice cracking with terror. "This entire underground cavern is surrounded by caves, life-stones, and massive mana deposits! The city core has been absorbing energy from the whole area this entire time—that’s why there are no knights patrolling!"
"?"
"We are going to die if we don’t get deep underground, you idiot!" Nyquella squeaked.
"..., oh! That’s why it hasn’t been repairing its infrastructure... that makes total sense," Yuki realized. "System, send an urgent message to Vee. Tell her to take Camilla and Malakai and get to the God Tree immediately!"
[Got it,] the System replied, its screen vanishing into light.
Yuki stopped dead in his tracks, reached out, and scooped Nyquella up by her waist. He commanded her to summon her Holy Knight, and placed her securely in its massive arms, and hopped onto the construct’s shoulder.
"Why don’t you use your knight for travel more often?" Yuki asked as the construct took off at high speed. "It’s way faster."
"Because I’m panicking!" she yelled over the wind. "The city is going to blow itself up because of all the damage it took from you, Malakai, and the monsters! Why would anything choose to self-destruct just to get rid of intruders?! Wouldn’t that hurt it even more and leave it permanently scarred?!"
"No. Not for something that operates on the Principle of Survivability."
"The what?!"
"The Principle of Survivability," Yuki explained calmly. "It means going to the absolute extreme in a fight to eradicate your enemy, knowing that you yourself won’t permanently die. You take the ultimate risk because you can recover from it."
"..., is that something you would do?" she asked, staring at him. "And did you just make that up?!"
"Yes... and yes," Yuki grinned. "I made it up, but I would absolutely blow myself up if it guaranteed killing my enemy. Since I can regenerate, I don’t have to worry about scars or lasting trauma—I’ll be back at full strength in no time. Meanwhile, my enemy is either dead or so severely injured that the next fight is a fully healed me versus a dying them. It’s absolute genius."
Nyquella stared at him in utter horror. "You are an insane person..."
"No," Yuki said, winking at her. "I’m an expert on survival. And so is this city."
